- Chapter 392 - 253: Awakening From the Nightmare, Soaked in Cold Sweat

Countless years had passed.
The tide ebbed and flowed, washing over the waterlogged palm leaves on the beach, turning their fresh green to a scorched yellow. With every turn of a leaf, time flew by. On this forgotten island, the seasons were indistinct.
The beach remained the same, always radiating a dazzling golden hue, as soft as cotton. It was dotted with countless holes dug by crabs, and the piles of seashells and debris were constantly replaced. Occasionally, modern bottles and cans would drift across the ocean and wash ashore, reminding the island’s inhabitant that human civilization still existed somewhere in the world.
The sky was a clear, pleasant blue, dotted with lazy white clouds. The island’s jungle was lush and layered, so picturesque that any photo could serve as a desktop wallpaper.
But this scenery no longer held any attraction for Chen Yuan.
He sat slumped atop a rusted submarine, his hands resting on his knees, his gaze deep and lost as he stared into the distance.
The handsome young man of the past was gone, replaced by a scruffy, bearded man. His once smooth skin had grown coarse, his entire face seemingly wrinkled by the sea breeze. An unkempt stubble ran from his sideburns to his chin, and crow’s feet had formed at the corners of his eyes.
He had truly matured now, weathered through and through. One look at his skin, baked to a wheat-like tan under the scorching sun each day, was enough to tell.
He was bare-chested, with a surprisingly well-woven grass skirt around his waist covering the important parts. His hair was a messy bird’s nest.
He’d been on this island for many years. The beautiful dream of being rescued and returning to the city after a month or two never came true. He gradually gave up on such a luxurious fantasy and shifted his focus to surviving on the island. This was the reality he had to accept.
He had built a shelter, found the cleanest water source, and learned to hunt birds and beasts, engaging in a daily battle of wits with the native macaques. He could scale a giant tree in three seconds, had learned to swing on vines, and had even mastered the art of air-drying and storing meat.
He had fashioned countless sharp fishing spears. Now, he was more agile than a fish in the water. He could identify which fish were poisonous or tasty and even produce his own salt and seasonings.
He learned to farm, planting a large patch of potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers beside his home. They were small and shriveled, not as delicious as what he was used to, but they were vegetables nonetheless. He raised flocks of birds, learned to pinpoint sea turtle nesting sites, and had even fashioned numerous stone pots.
He gradually became the king of this island. Every monkey trembled at the sight of this lean but fierce human. He had conquered everything here on his own.
But Chen Yuan wasn’t happy.
Even though he was surviving well, could continue to live, and was even healthier than when he lived in the city, with every muscle brimming with strength.
He was in torment!
Because…
At this sorrowful thought, Chen Yuan couldn’t help but weep. He reached up to wipe the corners of his eyes, only to find them endlessly dry. It turned out he had long since run out of tears.
Oh, the sorrow! The grief! He threw his head back for a long roar at the heavens—
But before the roar could escape his lips, a shout from behind made Chen Yuan’s shoulders jolt. He turned his head with difficulty to look.
“Honey~~”
“Honey!”
Two fair-skinned, beautiful women appeared, both dressed in grass skirts. They were even more charming than when they had first arrived. Time hadn’t left many marks on them; if anything, it had deepened their mature allure, and their curves were more stunning than ever.
Jiangg Ning and Jiangg Yao peeked out from behind a banana tree, holding up two exquisitely crafted straw hats.
“I finished weaving a hat for you. Try it on and see if it fits. This one is much more intricate than the last, you know.”
“Try mine first! I finished first.”
“I was only a second slower than my sister. Honey, you can’t play favorites. Why don’t you wear both at once~”
Looking at his two wives, their skin as fair as snow and perfectly hydrated, Chen Yuan breathed an inward sigh of relief. A rare smile touched his lips as he quickly scrambled down from the submarine.
’Thank god it’s just the two of them,’ Chen Yuan thought, quickening his pace and jogging forward a few steps.
“Alright, alright, I’ll wear them both. Speaking of which, you two are getting more and more beautiful. How do you still look the same as when we first arrived for vacation?”
“It’s because our darling husband takes such good care of us, of course.”
“Mhm, we love you the most, honey. You’re the best man in the world.”
“Hehe, don’t say that,” Chen Yuan’s weathered face flushed. “Although, I guess I am pretty amazing.”
’For some reason,’ Chen Yuan thought, ’my emotions feel amplified. I’m much more shameless than I was back in the city. Is this boastful, lecherous, slick person the real me?’
’And how are Ningning and Yaoyao getting prettier by the day? It defies the laws of nature…’
Just as he was thinking this, a cherubic little girl suddenly darted out from another banana plant. Her eyes were clear, her hair was in braids, and her fair skin made her look like a porcelain doll.
“Daddy!” she cried out in delight. “I found you! Hugs~”
Chen Yuan’s forward motion froze abruptly. His pupils contracted, and he squatted on the spot, not daring to take another step.
“Daddy!” A second little girl appeared.
Then a third, a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth!
The moment Chen Yuan dreaded most had arrived. Six daughters popped out in a row, all calling for “Daddy” in unison. The most terrifying part was that they all looked identical—each one a miniature version of Ningning and Yaoyao.
In an instant, Chen Yuan’s expression became fraught with anguish. He stumbled back several steps, wishing he could turn and run.
“Hugs~”
“Hugs…” Chen Yuan said tearfully, moving forward to ruffle his six daughters’ hair.
It was absurd, but Jiangg Ning and Jiangg Yao’s dream of having cute, grass-skirt-wearing babies had indeed come true. One had given birth to triplets, and so had the other. Miraculously, there wasn’t a single difference in their appearances.
The sight had scared Chen Yuan witless at the time.
What really made his skin crawl was that the sextuplets’ demands were even more exacting than twins’. They would fight at just two months old. By age one, they began demanding everything be perfectly identical. They had to eat the same food and drink from identical little bowls. As their father, if he caught a small sea turtle, he had to catch six more of the exact same size. If he failed, one of them would wail all night, making sleep an impossible luxury.
Now, Chen Yuan picked up the eldest, put her down, then the second sister, put her down, followed by the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth! He didn’t dare lift them to even slightly different heights, terrified his little tyrants would be displeased.
He was surrounded by a circle of adorable little girls all calling him “Daddy,” but Chen Yuan couldn’t muster a single smile. The one he forced was uglier than a grimace of pain.
“What a loving scene~” Ningning and Yaoyao exchanged a glance, their hearts melting.
“So loving… just so, so loving… *sob*.”
Chen Yuan’s suffering was a silent one. He had only come over to the submarine to seek a few minutes of peace, but the sextuplets had found him anyway.
“Daddy~ what’s that rock in your hand for?” the second sister asked.
“It’s for skipping stones.”
“Skipping stones!” The second sister jumped up and down. “I want to learn how to skip stones from you, Daddy! Teach me, please~ Teach me~”
“Okay, then come with me to the shore.”
“Mhm.” The second sister nodded and took Chen Yuan’s hand.
The next second, the other five sisters looked at each other, their happy faces instantly turning sad, their lips trembling.
“Daddy, me too!”
“Me too! You’re playing favorites! You only love the second sister!”
“Daddy, take me! I’m the oldest, so by order, it should be my turn first!”
“Just teach me, okay~? Please, they don’t really love Daddy, only I do!”
“I… I…”
The youngest, the sixth sister, just stammered “I… I…” for a long while without managing to say anything else. She was a little slow, and just dumbly pushed at Chen Yuan’s leg with her small hand, her expression just as desperate as the others’.
“Here we go again! Just kill me now!” Chen Yuan couldn’t help but cover his ears, his whole face scrunching up in annoyance. He looked pleadingly at Jiangg Ning and Jiangg Yao. “Can’t you two, their mothers, do something?”
“Honey, I want to learn how to skip stones, too,” Ningning said softly.
“Then everyone can learn. I…” Jiangg Yao sidled up to him and wheedled, “Teach me, okay? Honey, you’re the best~”
Chen Yuan froze. A sudden autumn wind seemed to blow past, sending a chill through his entire body.
He shivered violently.
“No… NO!!!”
Suddenly, Chen Yuan felt the world spin. He shot upright, gasping for breath, and stared blankly at his surroundings… the familiar living room, the bright sunlight, and two pairs of confused eyes staring back at him.
Jiangg Yao and Jiangg Ning had woken up early. They had just finished washing their faces and come into the living room when his shout startled them. A hint of worry was in their eyes.
His mouth was slightly agape, his mind a brief blank. It took him a long moment to shake off the daze and come to his senses.
A sticky, cold sweat drenched Chen Yuan’s back.
“What’s wrong, Chen?” Jiangg Ning leaned in, frowning slightly. She sat on the sofa and cupped his cheeks as she asked.
“Noth…” Chen Yuan rubbed his eyes hard. “It’s nothing…”
“Did you have a nightmare?”
“Yeah.”
Chen Yuan swung his legs over, slipped on his slippers, and quickly walked to the bathroom. He desperately needed to splash some water on his face to wake himself up.
That nightmare was absolutely terrifying.
