Chapter 200: Chapter 133: [Armored Bone Warrior] Old Xia’s Past
’Could it be that this kind of tribute in Yuan Capital is also meant to satisfy a profession’s requirements?’
For a moment, Su Chen couldn’t make heads or tails of it, so he decided to put the thought aside for now. ’I’ll wait for the people from Yuan Capital to arrive. I’ll try to get in touch with them and see if I can learn anything.’
According to Old Sang, Yuan Capital was very far from Ying Feng. The journey required crossing the “Baihai”—a vast, boundless white sea that was extremely dangerous and teeming with powerful Mutant Species.
They wouldn’t be arriving anytime soon.
’It takes this long even with a Flying Device. This planet seems much larger than Earth.’ Su Chen opened his Wristband and sent a report to Chong Jingtian, informing him that Sang Hanhai had been sent off.
The other party replied with a thumbs-up emoji. Su Chen’s expression was odd as he headed straight back to his residence.
The turmoil at the Judicial Court gradually subsided, but the atmosphere throughout Ying Feng grew increasingly grim. Many people keenly sensed that more Inspector Guards were patrolling the streets.
Furthermore, they could also be seen assisting City Patrol Guards and Explorer Guards. Their familiarity with Ying Feng was far beyond what the Judicial Court could compare to; some places and some people were already under their control.
They had shut down numerous black markets and arrested many people. It seemed like they were searching for something, which put everyone on edge.
Another seven or eight days passed. Sang Hanhai sent him a message: the Holy Word Stone had finally arrived, and he told him to come take a look.
’I wonder what kind of profession this Holy Word Stone records…’ Su Chen set off at once, the thought crossing his mind on the way.
After arriving at the Translation Department, he found Sang Hanhai in the middle of an experiment. Seeing how hastily Su Chen had arrived, Sang Hanhai couldn’t help but tease, “You really are impatient, aren’t you? Hoping to snag another profession for free?”
“I’m just curious, that’s all,” Su Chen said with a chuckle.
“Many professions aren’t necessarily useful. Or rather, their uses are limited, and some are even impossible to obtain.” Sang Hanhai put down his work, strolled leisurely out of the lab, and continued speaking as he walked:
“I remember one profession whose ability was to turn any water you drink blue. There might be another profession out there that could do something useful with blue water, but unfortunately, we’ve never found it.”
Su Chen followed behind Sang Hanhai and couldn’t help but ask, “How were these professions created? And many of their requirements are quite idealistic. What exactly is overseeing all this?”
Other people in this world didn’t have a panel like he did, but if they learned a profession’s requirements and completed them, they would also feel a sense of realization.
But if they didn’t know the profession’s information and requirements, they could complete them unknowingly and remain completely oblivious. However, if they later learned the requirements, their past actions would retroactively count as completed, which was quite miraculous.
“If I knew that, would I still be here?” Sang Hanhai shot him a glance. “Professions are like the fundamental rules of the world, just like how water freezes and people die.”
The question of how professions are obtained was an old debate. People had long stopped discussing it—not because it lacked value, but because there were no answers.
“I’m not in charge of that Holy Word Stone. It’s in Old Qin’s hands right now.” Sang Hanhai went downstairs, leading Su Chen to another laboratory.
On the way, Su Chen looked up at the “Spirit Ring” still operating in the sky and asked in a low voice, “I heard… that Pu Zhenghong—Elder Pu—is your senior brother?”
“You heard?” Sang Hanhai said irritably. “Didn’t Xia Hanshi ever tell you?”
“Er…” Su Chen hesitated, not knowing how to answer.
“Heh…” Sang Hanhai sneered. “Your teacher and my senior brother were old friends.”
“But they’ve since had a falling out and have completely cut each other off.”
’Completely cut each other off?’ Su Chen was speechless. No wonder Old Xia had acted so strangely when he found out Su Chen was mixed up with Sang Hanhai.
“Of course, that’s their business. It doesn’t have much to do with us,” Sang Hanhai’s tone shifted. “You don’t need to worry about it too much.”
’I still want to find out where the symbols on the Defense Spirit Ring came from. If they’ve completely cut each other off, how am I supposed to investigate…’ Su Chen grumbled to himself.
“What exactly was it about?” he asked tentatively.
Sang Hanhai sighed. “It’s all ancient history. Forty years ago, Xia Hanshi, Pu Zhenghong, Chong Jingtian… they were all good friends.”
“Back then, Xia Hanshi fought his way up from a lower-class city. He went through countless hardships to become an Inner Court Seed of the Judicial Court. He was witty and humorous, and had a great reputation.”
’The words “witty and humorous”… could they really apply to Old Xia?’
Su Chen pictured that grim, gloomy old face and found it hard to imagine.
Sang Hanhai stopped, opened his Wristband, and pulled up a picture, projecting it for Su Chen to see. “You’ve never seen your teacher when he was young, have you?”
It was a photo of four people. The burly man in the center was recognizably Chong Jingtian, just much younger, with his head held high and chest out, his pride almost radiating from the picture.
The one on the left was chubby and round-faced, with a kind, smiling expression. Su Chen didn’t recognize him, but it clearly wasn’t Old Xia.
The slender figure on the far right had his head raised and his arms crossed over his chest. His sharp gaze pierced through his messy hair, and he looked to be in high spirits.
“This… This is my teacher?” Su Chen asked, pointing at the slender figure.
Sang Hanhai chuckled. “I thought you wouldn’t recognize him. He looks different from how he is now, doesn’t he?”
“And this woman, who is she?” Su Chen pointed to the woman standing between Chong Jingtian and Xia Hanshi. She had delicate features and black hair draped over her back, looking like a gentle, older sister type.
Interestingly, both Chong Jingtian and Xia Hanshi were subtly angled toward this woman. Their body language spoke volumes.
“Ji Rou…” Sang Hanhai’s expression became serious. “One of the Inner Court Seeds from back then.”
Su Chen’s expression was strange. Given Old Xia’s current appearance, he found it truly difficult to imagine him in some kind of romantic plot, but it was clearly related to one.
