But he couldn’t be bothered to explain further. It would just be a waste of breath. Chong Jingtian was the type to overthink things, full of reservations, and would probably demand verification. There was no time to bicker with him now. So, he just said:
“Let me put it this way. Help me get all the Deceitful God’s Power from the other cities, and I might have a way to find those Deceitful God’s Followers who are hiding in some corner preparing for the Holy Banquet.”
“You have a way?” Chong Jingtian’s eyes narrowed. He asked urgently, “What way? Is it related to the Deceitful God’s Power? The Faceless Divine Son? Is that how you found him?”
Xia Hanshi didn’t answer the string of questions. He just said, “Just tell me, are you going to transfer it or not?”
“You…” Chong Jingtian was furious. He already had plenty weighing on his mind, and here was Xia Hanshi being evasive with him. He couldn’t help but rebuke him:
“At a time like this, you’re still keeping things from me? You expect me to mobilize so much Deceitful God’s Power based on your word alone.”
“Never mind how I’m supposed to negotiate with those people. Just taking that stuff out of the tightly sealed vaults… what if the Deceitful God’s Followers sense it and intercept it en route?”
“So that’s a no, then.” Xia Hanshi didn’t waste any more words and got up to leave.
“Stay right there!” Chong Jingtian was so angry his head was spinning. He pointed a trembling finger at Xia Hanshi, rendered speechless.
Xia Hanshi’s expression was indifferent. Even if Chong Jingtian dropped dead from anger right then and there, he wouldn’t show the slightest ripple of emotion.
After a long moment, Chong Jingtian heaved a long sigh and asked wearily, “How confident are you?”
“Confident?” Hearing this, a sudden anger flared up in Xia Hanshi. His face darkened, and his voice rose.
“How can anything be certain? I’m asking you one last time: are you going to transfer it or not?”
Anger flared in Chong Jingtian’s heart, but he suppressed it and said helplessly, “I know. I’ll go talk to Wu Chenpei. I have a good idea of what Yuan Capital has been hiding. They’ll agree.”
“If we join forces to pressure Lieyang and Celestial Joy, they’ll have no choice but to agree.”
Lieyang and Celestial Joy probably didn’t even know about the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator yet. When the top two cities joined forces, no matter what they wanted, the others would have to hold their noses and accept it.
“That’s your business. You don’t need to tell me.” Xia Hanshi had already reached the door, but he stopped and said in a cold voice:
“There are many things we can’t change. Just do your best and leave the rest to fate. If it works, great. If not, the worst that can happen is death. Why overthink it so much?”
Chong Jingtian froze. Xia Hanshi was already gone. His gaze lost focus, and he let out a bitter laugh.
Turning his head, his gaze passed through the floor-to-ceiling window, where he could just see the statue of the first Chief Judge standing in the square.
…
「Three days passed in the blink of an eye.」
Ying Feng’s side had more or less finished their preparations. The team heading to the ruins would be led by Chong Jingtian and Zhou Yanwu. The main members were the three Judges—Xia Hanshi, Jiang Shu Mo, and You Shan—along with Su Chen and Ming Lin.
The matter of the visitors from the Royal Court was still a secret known to very few.
Ming Lin himself had only learned about it right before they left. He was quite shocked and still hadn’t fully processed it.
After boarding the Flying Device and heading out of the city, Ming Lin found Su Chen and said with a wry smile, “With things like this, why am I even going to the ruins?”
“I guess Judge You was worried I’d be taken away directly,” Su Chen guessed.
Su Chen himself wasn’t worried. ’Qing Cang is here to select talented individuals, not make enemies. What’s taking a few family members and friends? It wouldn’t be any trouble to come back for a visit, so why would he forbid me from returning?’
“Sigh… To think… there’s a Royal Court…” Ming Lin was clearly hit hard by this. He couldn’t help but glance at Su Chen. “Did you know about the Royal Court all along? Is that why you never bothered with the internal affairs of the Judicial Court?”
“I didn’t know much earlier than you,” Su Chen said, shaking his head. “I just enjoy developing my profession.”
Ming Lin was speechless, but also couldn’t help but feel envious. Being chosen by name and just being taken along were clearly two different levels of treatment.
“Those other guys aren’t back yet. I wonder what Wei Yufan and the others will think when they find out. They’re probably still hung up on all that Judicial Court business.” The thought seemed to make Ming Lin feel much better.
The group soon arrived at the designated location, not too far from Yingfeng City. Qing Cang had no intention of taking Ying Feng’s ship. In his words, it was too slow.
This, however, made Su Chen a little anxious. Old Xia had told him yesterday that Chong Jingtian had already handled Yuan Capital, Lieyang, and Celestial Joy.
They were supposed to transport the stored Deceitful God’s Power to the ruins. If the timing was off, it would be troublesome.
“So those are the people from the Royal Court.”
Ming Lin stepped off the Flying Device, looking around curiously. It was his first time seeing Qing Cang and his people.
Su Chen, however, was looking at the giant, dark-colored spaceship before them. It was like a small mountain, finally matching his idea of a proper starship. It had a streamlined structure, its hull covered in dark gray composite armor with a layered design resembling biological scales.
Long wings extended from both sides of the bow. Several sets of anti-gravity engine nozzles were arranged on its underbelly. A three-story bridge structure rose from the middle of the ship, with observation windows arranged in a diamond pattern.
Everyone boarded the ship via the ramp. As for any substantive differences from the ships they had ridden before, none were immediately apparent.
“Everyone, your rooms have been arranged.” Qing Cang waved his hand, and a staff member prepared to lead them to their rooms.
“Lord Qing Cang…” Su Chen suddenly spoke up, asking in a low voice, “Do your rooms here… have a Gravity Training Chamber?”
“A Gravity Training Chamber?” Qing Cang was slightly taken aback.
“A device that can increase the gravity multiplier to help with professional development,” Su Chen explained. It hadn’t even been a month since he received the Great Venerable’s favor.
In the past two days, he had nearly filled his storage space with Support Potions. He had drained Ying Feng’s entire short-term production capacity, and he couldn’t afford to waste time on the road.
“I know what it is.” Qing Cang chuckled. He wasn’t surprised by the request itself, but by the fact that Su Chen was still thinking about developing his profession while on the road.
Two days ago, he had Wan Chen deliberately reveal that he intended to take Su Chen as a student, but then he had ignored him for the past two days to see how he would react.
It seemed he hadn’t been disturbed by it. By mentioning the Gravity Chamber, even if he was intentionally putting on a show, it still indirectly showed that he was ambitious.
Ambition was a good thing. Without it, one might as well stay on this planet and wait to die. The more Qing Cang observed him, the more satisfied he became.
“However, we don’t use Gravity Chambers,” Qing Cang mused. “But as for Spiritual Pressure Rings… we don’t have any spares.”
“Brother Su Chen can have mine for now.” Lan Hao, who was standing to the side, suddenly spoke up. He took out a silver metal wristband and handed it to Su Chen.
Lin Yue looked over in surprise, Wan Chen was taken aback, and even Qing Cang seemed a bit astonished.
“This is…” Su Chen hesitated.
“We’re all friends here, just take it,” Lan Hao said magnanimously, shoving it into Su Chen’s hand. “Come on, I’ll take you to your room.”
This guy’s sudden enthusiasm made Su Chen wonder what he was up to. Ming Lin, standing to the side, grew even more envious.
Chong Jingtian and Qing Cang went to confirm the coordinates, while the others dispersed.
“Lord Lan Hao…” Su Chen said, clutching the heavy metal wristband. A prompt appeared on its panel–
[Special Item – Spiritual Pressure Ring: Engraved with precise symbols, it can create a localized suppressive environment based on the body’s tolerance while simultaneously stimulating spiritual activity.]
’This thing is great,’ Su Chen thought. ’It’s like a portable Gravity Chamber and Spirit Realm Instrument combined. Just what I need.’
“No need to be so formal. I’m two years older than you, so just call me Brother Lan.” The two walked down a metal corridor as Lan Hao waved his hand dismissively. “We were both favored by two Spiritual Dragons. You could say it’s fate.”
“Brother Lan.” Su Chen readily complied. No matter what, the guy had just given him something good.
Lan Hao’s smile widened, but he lowered his voice. “Speaking of which, I feel a bit ashamed. After all, the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator was born on your planet, and yet we’ve come here so suddenly to take it away.”
“And with the Holy Banquet, the Deceitful God is eyeing you like a tiger stalking its prey… so many innocent people on this planet, and there’s nothing I can do to help.”
’What is this guy really after?’ Su Chen wondered to himself, but he said aloud, “The Morning Star Tier belongs to the worthy. There’s no ’should’ or ’should not.’”
’The worthy deserve it? What he said makes a lot of sense.’ Lan Hao gave him a suspicious look. ’Is he really that nonchalant about it? He must be faking it, right?’
He lowered his voice. “Actually, someone with two Spiritual Dragons also has a chance to become the chosen one. If you were to become the chosen one, the crisis of the Holy Banquet could be solved in an instant.”
“Oh?” Su Chen raised an eyebrow, leaning in to listen.
“That would be the Three Reversed Dragons,” Lan Hao said solemnly.
