Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Preparation For The Expert Divine Temple [2]
Leon quickly brought up the full list of his skills, knowing that his priority right now was to use the [Skill Stones] before anything else, as those would directly impact his combat ability going into the [Expert Divine Temple].
[Skills: Appraisal (Common Lv.5), Vision Enhancement (Common Lv.4), Powerful Fireball (Common Lv.6), Torrent of Lightning (Elite Lv.5), Crescent Slash (Epic Lv.2), Darkness Barrier (Epic Lv.2), Abyssal Slash (Legendary Lv.3), Blood Beam (Legendary Lv.1), Celestial Hand (Ancient Lv.2), Ice Spikes (Legendary Lv.1), Vines of Torment (Legendary Lv.5), Crimson Dance (Ascendant Lv.1)]
“That’s a lot,” Leon muttered as he scanned through the list, nodding slightly as he processed each skill one after another, “I guess I’ll need to be selective, especially since I only have 45 skill stones.”
That limitation mattered more than anything else.
If he had an unlimited number of stones, he could have easily pushed several skills forward, raising his overall versatility without thinking too much about it.
But that wasn’t the case. Right now, every decision mattered.
And based on the current levels and ranks of his skills, Leon already knew that he wouldn’t be able to upgrade more than one or two of them in a meaningful way.
For example, if he wanted to push [Vines of Torment] from level 5 to level 6, that alone would cost him 40 skill stones, which would leave him with almost nothing afterward.
He could also choose to invest in lower-ranked skills, pushing them further up to gain better utility or coverage, but that approach didn’t sit well with him either.
“I need to upgrade the skills I’ll actually use in there,” Leon mumbled under his breath, his expression sharpening slightly as he focused, “not just throw resources around for no reason.”
And as he thought about the upcoming trial, about the kind of difficulty the [Expert Divine Temple] would bring, about the enemies he might face and the situations he would be forced into—
One skill stood out: [Crimson Dance]. It appeared in his mind almost instantly.
That skill had already proven its value multiple times.
It had helped him during the battle against the [Will of Nature], and again against the [Volcano Crab King], both of which hadn’t been easy encounters.
It was reliable and effective. Capable of dealing real damage even to powerful enemies.
And more importantly, it was his highest-ranked skill. An [Ascendant] skill.
Which meant that even a single level increase would likely result in a massive boost compared to upgrading anything else.
Leon didn’t hesitate any longer.
He reached into his [Storage Space], pulled out 30 [Skill Stones], and crushed them all at once, the energy bursting outward as it was absorbed into his skill system.
Ding!
[You have consumed 30 Skill Stones.]
[Congratulations, you have upgraded “Crimson Dance (Level 1)” to “Crimson Dance (Level 2)”]
The name or description of the skill didn’t change at all, but it wasn’t the point.
What mattered was the increase in power behind it. And he could already feel it.
Even without using it, even without testing it, there was a clear difference.
“Good,” Leon nodded slightly, satisfied with that choice.
That left him with 15 skill stones. Not much. But still enough to make one more meaningful upgrade.
And again, he didn’t waste time thinking too long about it.
He already knew what he needed next: defense.
More specifically, a way to survive.
Without hesitation, Leon crushed another 10 [Skill Stones], channeling their energy into his next chosen skill.
Crack! Ding!
[You have consumed 10 Skill Stones.]
[Congratulations, you have upgraded “Darkness Barrier (Level 2)” to “Deep Darkness Barrier (Level 3)”]
[Deep Darkness Barrier (Epic Lv.3): Deeply focus on the element of darkness into a barrier that can tank many blows and negate some others.]
“Perfect,” Leon said with a slight grin, clearly pleased with the result, “I’ll definitely need something like this in there.”
He knew very well that offense alone wouldn’t possibly carry him through what was coming.
Something that could keep him alive even in situations where he might otherwise be overwhelmed.
With that done, Leon was left with only 5 [Skill Stones], which he decided to keep instead of wasting them on a minor upgrade that wouldn’t make much of a difference right now.
Then, without pausing, he moved on to the next part of his preparation.
The [Enhancement Stones]. He had 69 of them.
Beep!
[Only one minute remains before teleportation.]
“Yeah, yeah,” Leon muttered under his breath, dismissing the notification as he closed the previous panel and shifted his focus entirely onto his equipment.
His gaze quickly ran over everything he was currently wearing, analyzing each item carefully, deciding which ones were actually worth enhancing and which ones weren’t.
After a few seconds, he stepped back slightly, mentally organizing everything.
’These are the only ones worth investing into for now,’ Leon thought, his decision already made, ’everything else will probably get replaced soon anyway.’
The items he chose were clear: [Power Sword +2 (Mythical)], [Plant King Flower (Legendary)], [Awakener Necklace (Legendary)] and [Divine Armor (Ascendant)].
Everything else? Not worth it.
Not when he knew he would likely obtain better gear during or after the fourth assessment.
With that settled, Leon moved immediately.
He crushed 60 [Enhancement Stones] in quick succession, their energy surging through him as he directed it toward the selected equipment.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
[You have consumed 60 Enhancement Stones and successfully enhanced your “Power Sword +2” (20), “Divine Armor” (30) and “Awakener Necklace” (10).]
Each item responded to the enhancement, their power increasing as they gained levels.
The [Power Sword] reached its maximum level, which was three.
The [Divine Armor] and [Awakener Necklace] both improved significantly.
Without wasting time, Leon opened their updated panels to check the results.
—
[Power Sword +3 (Mythical): +20,000 Attack Power, +10,000 Strength, +6,000 Agility.]
[Blood Heart Blessing: Every attack with this sword holds double the “Strength” of a usual one.]
—
[Divine Armor +2 (Ascendant): +15,000 Defense, +8,000 Spirit, +7,000 Strength, +5,500 Agility, +4,500 Constitution.]
[Blood Heart Blessing: You are completely immune to all light and darkness-related attacks.]
—
[Awakener Necklace +2 (Legendary): Boosts all base attributes by 10%.]
—
Leon looked through each of them carefully, a small, satisfied smile appearing on his face as he acknowledged the improvements.
Everything had gone exactly as planned. His offensive power had increased. His defense had improved.
And his overall stats had been boosted even further. At this point, he was stronger than ever.
And yet, he knew it still might not be enough. Not for what was coming. Still, there was no time left.
Before he could even check his full status panel—
Ding!
[You are about to be teleported to the “Expert Divine Temple”]
[This is the final divine temple you shall face, may the will of the “Heavenly One” be with you.]
BOOM!
A massive beam of light descended from above without warning, engulfing Leon completely as it struck him, lifting his body upward as if he was being pulled into the sky itself.
His vision went blank almost instantly, the world around him disappearing as the teleportation took over.
For a few seconds, there was nothing. Just emptiness.
And then—
Ding!
[You have arrived at the “Expert Divine Temple”]
Leon’s vision slowly returned as his surroundings came into focus, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked ahead.
“Here we go,” he muttered, his expression turning grim, his voice calm but filled with intent, “Last one.”
