Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Killing The Spiders, There’s Chests Here?!
Leon nodded slightly, immediately understanding what that meant.
If they had a base, then it meant that they had somewhere to go.
And more importantly, that it had had likely been taken over by monsters, which explained why they were here.
“We could’ve wiped them out instantly,” Godrick muttered with visible annoyance, crossing his arms, “Those things only had around 1,200,000 [Combat Power], they weren’t even worth worrying about.”
“Caution matters more,” Violet replied without even looking at him, “We’ve already lost too many safe locations, and finding new ones is becoming harder each time.”
Her words carried experience behind them, and even Godrick didn’t argue further after hearing that.
“Well~” Oasis suddenly spoke up again, her mood already shifting back to something more lively as she spun the wrench in her hand with an almost playful motion, “I just finished my [Annihilation Turret], so this should be quick, hehe~”
As she said that, a small device rested on the rooftop near her feet, roughly the size of a soccer ball.
It was built from a mix of metallic and unknown materials that pulsed faintly with energy, and at its center was a massive barrel that clearly wasn’t designed for anything small-scale.
Oasis bent down, picked it up effortlessly, and glanced toward the distance.
“Let’s go,” she said.
Fwoosh!
Without wasting another second, all four of them moved at once, their bodies blurring as they rushed across the rooftops toward a specific direction deep within the [Forsaken City], their speed so high that even Leon had to focus slightly to keep track of them.
For a brief moment, Leon didn’t follow.
Instead, he remained where he was, standing alone on the rooftop as his gaze slowly shifted toward the distance, locking onto the massive structure that loomed over the entire city: the castle.
’Do I really need them?’ Leon thought quietly, his eyes narrowing slightly as he considered his options, ’I could survive on my own if I wanted to.’
While the group had clearly survived here for a long time, they were also stuck, unable to complete the assessment despite their strength.
Which meant that staying with them might not necessarily lead to success.
At the same time, going alone meant facing everything in this place without any support.
Both options had risks.
“Are you coming?”
A calm voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
Leon turned his head slightly and saw that Violet hadn’t followed the others completely, instead standing on a nearby rooftop as she looked at him, her expression as unreadable as ever.
“It’s fine if you don’t,” she added after a brief pause, shaking her head lightly as she turned away, “I wouldn’t trust us either, but your chances of surviving alone here are almost nonexistent.”
Her words weren’t threatening, but simply based on everything she knew.
And then—
ROOOOOAR!
A massive roar suddenly echoed through the city, shaking the air itself as it spread across the rooftops and streets, its sheer power enough to make Leon’s body tense instinctively.
The source of the sound wasn’t visible. But its presence was undeniable.
It was something far beyond the [Forsaken Knights].
’I’ll see how this plays out first… then I’ll decide,’ Leon thought calmly, making his choice for now.
Before moving, he quickly reached into his [Storage Space] and pulled out the two [Forsaken Knight Essence] he had obtained earlier.
Without hesitation—
Nom! Nom!
He consumed both of them.
A surge of power flowed through his body almost instantly, his muscles tightening slightly as the increase in strength settled in.
[+60 Strength.]
Leon exhaled slowly, adjusting to the change before lifting his head again.
Then—
Fwoosh!
He moved.
Closing the distance between himself and Violet in an instant before continuing forward alongside her, following the others through the ruined rooftops as they made their way back to their base.
It didn’t take long. After only a few minutes of rapid movement, they arrived.
And the moment Leon stepped onto the rooftop overlooking the area—
BOOM!
A deafening explosion echoed through the streets below as Oasis’s [Annihilation Turret] fired.
A single shot blasted forward with overwhelming force before striking a massive spider-like creature and obliterating it instantly.
Then another shot. And another. Each one just as devastating as the last.
Within seconds, dozens of those creatures were wiped out completely, their bodies collapsing one after another without any chance to resist.
Leon watched silently for a moment before speaking.
“If they’re this weak, why didn’t you just deal with them immediately?” he asked, his tone calm but genuinely curious.
“Because usually monsters like this come with a… leader,” Alicar replied, his expression turning slightly pale as he spoke, “Not the kind of attention we can handle…”
Violet stepped forward slightly, her gaze directed toward the distant castle once more.
“The [Forsaken Minotaur] guarding the outer area has around two million [Combat Power],” she explained calmly, “And as for the [Forsaken King]… I couldn’t even properly perceive it, so it’s likely closer to three million.”
“…Damn,” Leon muttered under his breath.
That was far beyond what he had expected.
Which also meant one thing: this assessment wasn’t designed to be cleared quickly.
It was meant to take time. A lot of time. Years, even.
But even as that realization settled in—
Leon’s expression didn’t waver. If anything, it grew colder. Sharper.
Because in his mind, the conclusion was already clear.
’Alright…’ he thought, his eyes narrowing slightly as a faint aura flickered within them, ’That settles it. I’m getting out of this place within the next few days.’
After completely wiping out the swarm of spiders with her newly built turret, Oasis carefully carried the small but terrifying device toward the entrance of their base and placed it directly in front of the doorway.
The angle, the placement, and even the direction of the barrel all suggested that anything approaching from the outside would be met with immediate and overwhelming force.
“This should be enough to protect us for now,” Oasis said with a satisfied smile as she stepped back to admire her work, “I’ll build more of these later on so that nothing can overtake us again, though I’ll need more materials from those chests if I want to improve them further.”
“Chests?” Leon repeated, his eyes lighting up almost instantly as soon as he heard that word.
Unlike the others, who likely saw them as a valuable but limited resource, Leon immediately understood the potential behind.
“The [God-Rank] assessment is designed to make us grow stronger over time,” Alicar explained calmly, “and the main way we’ve been doing that is by collecting the chests scattered all over the [Forsaken City], because most of the equipment, materials, and even sub-talents we currently use come from them, and honestly, the quality of what you can get is pretty high.”
“Interesting…” Leon replied with a faint smile, though his reaction was far more restrained than what he was actually thinking.
In his mind, those chests weren’t just a way to grow stronger over time.
They were an opportunity to accelerate everything.
To them, opening a chest and getting even one or two useful items was already considered a success.
But for Leon, whose talent guaranteed a full drop from anything he interacted with, those same chests would yield everything they contained without exception.
’That’s actually perfect,’ Leon thought quietly, his eyes sharpening slightly as he processed the information.
His goal hadn’t changed. If anything, it had become clearer.
