Chapter 243: Chapter 243: The Forsaken City’s Expedition, The Altar of Life is Back [1]
To leave the [Forsaken City], leon would need to break through whatever stood between him and the castle at the center of the city, which meant defeating the [Forsaken Minotaur] guarding the outer area and then facing the [Forsaken King] itself.
On paper, it sounded simple.
In reality, it was the exact reason why none of the people here had been able to escape despite spending years trying.
Still, Leon didn’t let that discourage him.
The group moved inside shortly after, closing the door behind them and securing the entrance.
Making sure that nothing from the outside could enter easily now that Oasis’s turret was in place as their first line of defense.
As soon as they stepped in, Violet brought her hands together and began whispering a series of low, controlled incantations, her voice steady as energy gathered around her.
Boom!
A faint but powerful barrier spread across the entire building, forming a protective layer that not only reinforced the structure but also acted as a detection system, allowing them to sense if anything approached or tried to break through.
“Make sure to bring the meat,” Violet said without looking back as she turned away and began heading deeper into the building toward her own space, her tone calm as always, “I’ll return in about an hour, then we can decide what to do tomorrow.”
The others didn’t respond verbally, but their silence carried understanding.
It was clear this routine wasn’t new to them.
Meanwhile, Leon took the opportunity to observe the place more carefully now that he had the chance.
Compared to the rest of the [Forsaken City], which was filled with ruins, decay, and destruction, this building stood out immediately.
Oasis had likely spent a significant amount of time repairing and improving it, turning what was once another broken structure into something far more stable and even somewhat comfortable.
The floors were clean and polished, with no visible cracks or damage, and in the center of the room there were chairs arranged neatly alongside a small cooking area equipped with tools that looked far more advanced than anything else Leon had seen in this city so far.
’I guess they still need to eat,’ Leon thought as his gaze moved toward the cooking area, understanding now what Violet had meant earlier when she mentioned bringing meat.
“It’s actually pretty good once you get used to it,” Alicar said with a grin as he approached Leon, clearly referring to the spider meat they had just collected, “you might even start liking it after a while.”
“I don’t plan on staying long enough for that to happen,” Leon replied calmly, his tone neutral but firm.
“…Heh, yeah, I figured you’d say something like that,” Alicar sighed lightly, “I gave up on leaving a long time ago.”
With that, he turned and followed Godrick outside, likely to retrieve the spider meat they had left behind earlier, leaving Leon alone in the main area with Oasis.
Seeing the opportunity, Leon didn’t hesitate to ask what had been on his mind.
“How strong are all of you?” he asked directly, “you’ve been here for a long time, so your [Combat Power] must be pretty high by now, right?”
Oasis blinked for a moment, clearly not expecting such a straightforward question, but she quickly recovered and smiled.
“Yeah… I guess you could say that,” she nodded, her tone casual, “I’m sitting at around one point five million [Combat Power], Alicar and Godrick are both around one point six million, and Violet… she’s close to one point eight million.”
Hearing those numbers, Leon’s eyes widened slightly, even though he had expected them to be strong, this was beyond what he had initially imagined.
And that was just their base [Combat Power], not accounting for their skills, experience, or any hidden abilities they might have.
’They’ve definitely benefited a lot from those chests and everything they’ve gathered over the years,’ Leon thought, his mind already calculating the implications, ’good… that means they’ll be useful.’
He still didn’t trust them completely. That hadn’t changed.
But having powerful allies in a place like this was something he wasn’t going to reject.
More importantly, now that he knew their approximate strength, he could already estimate how things would play out if his [Celestial’s Might] came into effect.
With that, he would be able to reduce their [Combat Power] significantly if he ever needed to fight them… all except Violet, whose presence alone suggested that even with that advantage, she would still be extremely dangerous.
After about thirty minutes, Alicar and Godrick returned carrying enough spider meat to last them for weeks, and they quickly began preparing it using Oasis’s tools, the smell of cooked meat soon filling the room as they worked together with practiced efficiency.
Not long after that, Violet returned as well, stepping into the room and sitting down without hesitation, grabbing one of the cooked spider legs as she began eating.
“Our plan was delayed because of the spiders,” she said calmly, getting straight to the point as she looked at the group, “but as usual, we’ll proceed with the expedition tomorrow.”
At her words, the atmosphere shifted slightly.
Even Godrick, who had been acting relaxed moments ago, seemed to tense just a bit.
Leon noticed the change but chose not to ask anything yet, knowing he would get his answers soon enough.
“This will be the largest expedition we’ve attempted so far, and likely the most dangerous,” Violet continued, “so prepare yourselves properly, because if we can secure the chests in that area, we’ll be one step closer to dealing with the [Forsaken Minotaur].”
With that, the discussion ended just as quickly as it had begun, and the group returned to eating in relative silence.
After a few minutes, Violet stood up again and walked toward Leon, who had been quietly observing everything.
“During expeditions, we move into different zones of the [Forsaken City] and clear them as much as possible,” she explained without waiting for him to ask, “each zone contains valuable resources, so we try to do this regularly.”
She also mentioned, without going into too much detail, that it was during these expeditions that the others who had once been part of their group had died.
Leon listened carefully, but as he looked at her, he noticed something different.
Unlike the others, who seemed to have accepted their situation to some extent, Violet still carried something in her eyes.
A faint spark. Hope. It wasn’t loud or obvious, but it was there.
And given her nature as a dragon, a being with a lifespan that could stretch across tens of thousands of years, the time she had spent here likely meant far less to her than it did to the others.
“Alright,” Leon said with a small grin, “I’ll join you, I could use some of those items too.”
“Thank you,” Violet nodded simply before turning away again.
One by one, the others also began heading toward their own rooms to prepare, leaving Leon alone in the main area once more.
’Well… at least there’s some kind of plan,’ he thought with a faint smile as he stood up, ready to explore the building a bit more.
But the moment he moved—
Fwoosh!
His body suddenly staggered, his vision blurring as a wave of dizziness hit him out of nowhere, forcing him to stop as his surroundings began to darken rapidly.
Before he could even react—
Ding!
[Your “Life Vessel” title’s cooldown has ended.]
[The “Altar of Life” is now active once more.]
As the darkness closed in around him, a familiar structure appeared before his eyes, glowing faintly in the void that replaced his surroundings: the [Altar of Life].
Leon stared at it for a moment. Then his grin slowly widened.
“Couldn’t have asked for better timing.”
