Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Final Preperations, Expedition To The Mother’s Area
The group already knew where the [Mother’s Area] was, and now Leon knew it just as well as they did.
He could even see it clearly on his [World Map], marked by a distinct spider-shaped icon that stood out against the rest of the city, almost as if the system itself was warning him about what lay ahead.
Of course, even with that advantage, one thing hadn’t changed.
He still couldn’t teleport there.
’I guess it wasn’t just the general blocking me,’ Leon thought as his eyes lingered on the map for a moment longer, ’This whole city has something that interferes with teleportation.’
It made sense in a way, even if it was annoying to deal with, because if teleportation worked freely, then escaping danger or skipping fights would become far too easy.
And from everything he had heard so far, this place wasn’t meant to be easy in any way.
It was a trial, after all. A brutal one.
“Thirty minutes for final preparations,” Violet announced, her voice cutting through the room as she stood near the center, “After that, we move out, so do whatever you need to do… this might very well be your last day here.”
Her words weren’t dramatic. They were simply realistic.
The others didn’t argue or hesitate, immediately heading toward their own chambers to gather equipment, check their items, and prepare themselves mentally for what was about to come.
Leon, however, didn’t move from his spot.
Instead, he turned his gaze toward Violet, who had already taken a seat, her eyes closing as if she was conserving energy or focusing her thoughts.
“You said something earlier,” Leon spoke as he walked closer, his tone calm but direct, “About the [God-Rank] assessment being trials for those who want to become gods… how does that work?”
Violet opened her eyes slowly, her multicolored pupils glowing faintly as she looked at him, the draconic scales on her face catching the light in a subtle but noticeable way.
For a brief moment, she simply stared at him.
Before, she had considered Leon to be the weakest among them, someone who would struggle to even keep up, but now… that perception had clearly shifted.
’He killed the general,’ she thought, her gaze narrowing slightly as she studied him, ’Whether I understand how or not… that changes things.’
“You really don’t know?” she finally asked, her voice steady, almost testing him.
“I didn’t exactly get a full explanation,” Leon replied, shrugging lightly.
Violet exhaled quietly before continuing.
“When you receive the [God-Rank] assessment, the system usually explains what it means and gives you a choice… whether you want to take that path or not.”
Leon didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, his expression darkened just slightly as something clicked in his mind.
’Of course…’
He hadn’t been given a choice because of [Celestial]’s passive of always moving forward.
It had simply thrown him into it, as if it already knew what his answer would be.
’God damn Celestial,’ Leon thought, irritation flashing through his mind for a brief moment, ’Figures.’
“That didn’t happen for you?” Violet asked, noticing his silence.
“…No,” Leon answered after a second, “I didn’t have much of a say in it.”
Violet frowned slightly, but didn’t push further. Instead, Leon shifted the topic.
“Did you go through something the [Labyrinth of Souls] too?”
She shook her head.
“No, the first assessment is different for everyone,” she explained, “Mine was called the [Circus of Madness].”
Leon raised an eyebrow at that, a faint smile forming on his lips, “Sounds fun.”
“It wasn’t,” she replied flatly, though there was a hint of amusement in her tone, “But I suppose yours wasn’t much better.”
“Who knows,” Leon shrugged, “Circuses can be terrifying.”
The two of them continued talking for a while after that, exchanging brief pieces of information about their first trials, though both of them were careful.
Neither of them revealed too much.
Leon avoided mentioning anything related to [Celestial’s Might] or his deeper abilities, while Violet glossed over her fights entirely, keeping her own strength hidden behind vague explanations.
Time passed quickly like that. And before long, the rest of the group returned.
Godrick stepped out wearing a full set of armor now, heavy and imposing, with reinforced gauntlets covering both of his fists, clearly meant to maximize the power of his strikes.
Oasis looked mostly the same, though Leon could tell she had prepared something, likely storing her creations inside her inventory.
Alicar walked out last, a faint aura surrounding him that hadn’t been there before, subtle but noticeable enough to suggest he had made some kind of preparation.
“Everyone ready?” Violet asked as she stood up.
The three of them nodded without hesitation.
“Good,” she said, her tone firm, “Then let’s finish this.”
Without wasting any more time, the five of them stepped out of the base.
Oasis quickly retrieved her [Annihilation Turret], storing it away for later use, and the group began moving through the city, following the route displayed by her holographic map.
The streets were as quiet and oppressive as ever, the ruined buildings casting long shadows across their path.
They didn’t have to wait long before encountering enemies.
Several [Spiders of Darkness] appeared along the way, crawling out from the sides of buildings or emerging from narrow alleys, their crimson eyes locking onto the group instantly.
But unlike before… They didn’t pose much of a threat.
SMASH!
Godrick stepped forward and crushed one of them with a single punch, his gauntlet smashing straight through its head with brutal force, killing it instantly without slowing him down in the slightest.
At the same time, Violet moved with precision, her rapier flashing as she pierced another spider cleanly, the impact causing its head to explode as she pulled her weapon back without even looking at it.
The fights ended almost as soon as they started.
Leon watched from behind, his expression calm.
He didn’t interfere. There was no need.
“Not a single [Forsaken Knight],” Alicar muttered after a while, glancing around with a hint of confusion, “That’s… unusual.”
“Leon did say he killed a lot of them,” Violet replied, her tone thoughtful, “If that’s true, then it makes sense we wouldn’t see many around here anymore.”
“It definitely makes things easier,” Oasis added quietly.
Leon didn’t comment. He simply kept walking.
Minutes turned into an hour, then two.
The deeper they went into the city, the heavier the atmosphere became, the presence of something dangerous growing more and more obvious even without seeing it directly.
And then—
Ding!
