Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure - Chapter 2218: Spike (1)

“I’ll tell you if I find anything.”
That was the last thing that Max said a few days ago, but he never reported back on the matter.
It seemed like he hadn’t been able to figure out what it was about stacking the divine energy that made it special.
But from the other reports that I received, I knew that he had been spending quite a bit of time in the lab.
Rather than calling them reports, it was better to call them pleas for help since he just trapped others in the lab with him. At the same time, he would always request resources when he locked himself in the lab like this.
So those that had to approve those resources were naturally asking for help.
However, I wasn’t planning on doing anything.
So far, what he had used was still within the budget that I had already approved. It was just hard since he was requesting it all at once, but it wasn’t as if we couldn’t bear this load.
The most important thing was that what he was researching was something that would be useful to us. The more that we understood about this divine energy, the more that we would be able to do with it.
Which was why I wasn’t planning on stopping him as long as he didn’t cross a certain line.
Not to mention that there was something else that completely took my attention.
“Is this true?” I asked the one that had brought the reports.
With a gulp, he slowly nodded to confirm this.
As he did, I couldn’t help knitting my brows and reading over the report again.
After what had happened against War and the forces of Destruction, the racial alliance had sent out people to investigate the corruption energy all over the continent. After all, it wasn’t just that one group alone that had been causing trouble.
When the forces of Destruction attacked, they had attacked all at once across the continent and had left devastation all around. We did what we could to suppress the corruption energy, but there was no telling if there was any of it left over.
Which was why we had to slowly sweep over the lands with people.
This report that came in should have been one of the normal reports about this operation, but it had something different in it. Unlike the other reports that just told of some small patches of corruption energy that they found, this one contained something crazy.
“A spike?” I had to ask to confirm what I was reading.
The scout that had brought the report in nodded before saying, “That’s the only way that we could describe it.”
The scouts had been thorough as they had sent one of their members back to describe what they had found.
Only the thing that they found was really too unbelievable to describe properly.
“Could you do anything to it?”
“None of us dared to touch it since we were afraid of setting something off.”
I gave a nod of approval when I heard this.
After all, I knew that there were those that were eager for results and would have tried to do something to this spike that they found. It was a good thing that this group of scouts weren’t that eager to prove themselves or there might have been a disaster.
Even I had never heard of a spike of corruption energy before, so I knew that there would be something dangerous about this.
There was no telling what would have happened if we rashly tried to mess with it.
The problem was that we still had to do something about this spike.
It was a spike of corruption energy in the middle of the land, there was no telling what it was doing under the ground or if it would spread corruption energy all of a sudden.
So even if it was dangerous, we had to figure out a way to deal with it.
“Can you call the prime minister for me?”
…
“Are you crazy? You want to bring everyone?”
“We have no idea what this thing is, so that’s the only thing that we can do.”
The prime minister didn’t seem to agree with me when I told him my plan, but I didn’t back down since I knew that things were no longer as simple as before.
Now that we had defeated three of the Four Omens, there was only the most powerful of the Four Omens that were left. In that case, there was no telling what kind of things the last of the Four Omens was capable of.
Since we were in the endgame, the best thing to do was to be as careful as possible.
“What if something else happens?”
“What if this is the last thing?”
The two of us clearly didn’t agree on this matter, but I didn’t hold it against the prime minister. What we were doing was considering different things, which was why we couldn’t agree.
It wasn’t as if we had anything personal against each other.
In the end, I said, “I’m the one that has more knowledge about these things and I trust my instinct on this. It’s best that we bring everyone along just to be careful.”
The prime minister looked at me with a strange look, but in the end he accepted my reasoning.
It was one thing if I just proposed something, but now I was asking him to trust me.
Since I was going this far, he had no choice but to accept this and go along with my idea.
But he also had his own thoughts, “Since you’re going this far, then I’m sending more people along.”
The way that he said this was as if he was sending people along to make sure that I wouldn’t cause more trouble.
A wry smile appeared when I heard this, but I didn’t argue with him.
Concessions had to be made if we were to agree.
I didn’t think that this spike was that simple, so it was best to deal with it as soon as possible.
