Timeless Assassin - Chapter 1112 Letting Go

Chapter 1112 Letting Go
(Meanwhile, within the Time Stilled World, The Skyshard Mansion) With Veyr conquering Planet Satoru, both Caleb and Mairon soon received their deployment orders, as they were granted a one-month notice period after which they were expected to report to their respective units and prepare for active duty as Lieutenants of the Cult.
The news carried a strange weight within the Skyshard mansion, as while the two boys could barely contain their excitement at finally stepping beyond the sealed world and witnessing the universe they had only heard about, Amanda found herself growing increasingly restless at the thought of them walking into a battlefield where she could no longer protect them.
And so, instead of delaying the inevitable, she chose to prepare them for it, as she called them down into her basement workshop that very day, and gave them a rudimentary run through of the armor she had forged.
“Stand completely still…” Amanda said, her tone firm yet controlled as Caleb and Mairon took their positions before her without complaint, both sensing that this was not one of her usual experimental sessions but something far more important.
Resting on the central workbench behind her were two compact armor sets, their structure sleek and minimal at first glance, covering only the chest and back like standard armor plate, and yet carrying an underlying complexity that hinted at something far more advanced.
“I call this the Doomsday Armor,” Amanda said, as she stepped forward and activated one of the sets, her fingers brushing against its surface as the material responded instantly, shifting and flowing as though it possessed a will of its own.
“At its base form, it will remain compact and lightweight, covering
only your upper torso so that it does not hinder your movement or expend unnecessary stamina during extended combat,” she explained, as the armor settled neatly against Caleb’s chest, fitting itself perfectly without the need for straps or locks.
“But the moment you will it to consciously move,” she continued, her voice sharpening slightly as she demonstrated, “it expands, reacts, and reinforces whatever part of your body requires protection.”
As if responding to her words, the armor surged upward in a smooth motion, extending from Caleb’s chest to his neck and the back of his head, forming a seamless protective layer that locked into place without any visible gaps.
“If you need a shield, you direct it to your arms and block an attack with your bare hands,” Amanda said, as the armor shifted again, flowing downward and covering his forearms in an instant, thickening into a reinforced barrier that could absorb direct impact.
“Or if you need to kick something hot, you can send it down to reinforce your legs…” she added, as the material retracted and repositioned itself along his lower body, adapting instantly to the new command without delay.
Mairon’s eyes lit up at the sight, his usual carefree expression giving way to genuine amazement as he stepped closer, clearly impressed by the fluidity and responsiveness of the design.
“It responds to thought alone…
You don’t need to activate it manually, you just need to think, and it will move.”
“It’s breathable, lightweight, and reinforced through a forging method that I had to reconstruct from scratch,” she continued, as her gaze lingered on the armor for a moment longer than necessary, revealing just how much time and effort had gone into its creation.
“I made this so that when you step out there…” she said quietly, her voice lowering as she finally looked back at them, “you don’t die
because of something I could have prevented.”
She concluded, as at that, both children showed visible signs of being moved.
Caleb hugged Amanda as though she was the best mom in the universe, while Mairon pulled her cheeks like she was an adorable
puppy.
“It’s sort of indestructible.
It’s the hardest material in the universe under compression, so no matter how one tries to cut through it, they will fail.
And yet, that also means it’s useless in mitigating blunt force damage.
So…. While it will save your neck from getting sliced through, it will also not prevent your bones from being broken, if the impact of the incoming attack was that strong.
So while it’s useful it’s not infallible….”
She warned, as the kids nodded and showered her with even tighter
hugs and cheek pulls.
“Aren’t you the cutest?”
Mairon said, as he accepted the armor gracefully and pulled away, a big grin spreading edge to edge on his face, as he showed it off to
Caleb.
“Thank you for this, Mom, I’m sure you must have worked really hard for this for the past few months…” Caleb said next, as unlike Mairon, his tone carried a quiet sincerity that reflected just how deeply he understood the effort behind what she had created for them. Amanda looked at him for a brief moment, her expression softening slightly as she raised a hand and brushed a strand of hair away from his face, as though trying to memorize the sight of him standing there before her.
“Just be safe, okay?” she said quietly, her voice steady yet carrying an
underlying weight that neither of them could ignore, as both Caleb and Mairon instinctively straightened at her words.
“I know both of you are going to be in different units, so you won’t always be around each other to look out for one another,” she continued, as her gaze moved between them carefully, making sure that both of them understood what she was trying to say.
“But even then, you will still be closer to each other than I will ever be to you once you leave this place,” she added, her tone tightening ever so slightly as the reality of that distance settled in.
“So if anything goes wrong out there, no matter how bad it gets, I
want you to make sure that you bail each other out, no matter the cost,” she said, as her fingers curled slightly, betraying the concern she was trying to keep under control.
“If one of you is captured, then yes, your father will rain hell upon whoever is responsible the moment he finds out,” she continued, her voice lowering as she spoke more seriously now.
“But if he is not around when it happens, then as brothers, I want you
to promise me that you will always look out for one another and bring each other back… no matter what,” she finished, her eyes locking onto theirs as she waited for their response.
For a brief moment, neither of them spoke, as the weight of her words settled over them, before both Caleb and Mairon nodded in unison, their expressions turning serious in acknowledgment. Then, almost as if unable to hold that seriousness for too long, Mairon’s lips curled into a grin as he leaned back slightly and crossed his arms.
“Don’t worry, Mom, I know you still think we’re your little boys,” he said, his tone light as a spark of excitement returned to his eyes. “But we’re actually pretty strong ourselves now, and honestly, I think
it’s the universe that should be worried about us stepping out there, rather than us being worried about what’s waiting for us,” he added,
his grin widening as he spoke with complete confidence.
*Smack*
Caleb’s hand came down sharply on the back of Mairon’s head, the
sound echoing lightly through the workshop as Mairon flinched in
annoyance.
“Don’t act like an idiot,” Caleb said, his tone flat as he shook his head
slightly, though the faintest hint of amusement lingered beneath his
words.
“Even so…” he continued, as his gaze shifted back toward Amanda, his expression steady now.
“I can’t completely disagree with him,” he admitted, as his voice
carried a quiet confidence that felt far more grounded than Mairon’s
earlier boast.
“We are strong, Mom,” Caleb said, his tone firm as he met her eyes
directly.
“So don’t worry… we’ll come back having made you proud,” he added,
as his grip tightened slightly around the armor resting against him.
“Nothing less.”
For a moment, Amanda said nothing, as her eyes softened at their
words, a faint smile forming on her lips despite the lingering worry
that still sat deep within her heart.
Then, without another word, she stepped forward and pulled both of them into a tight embrace, her arms wrapping around them firmly as though trying to hold onto the moment for just a little longer.
And in that quiet embrace, she finally let herself accept what she had
been resisting all along.
They were no longer children who needed her protection. They were capable warriors now.
And it was finally time for her to let them go.
