Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System - Chapter 120: Flying Head Zombies

Chapter 120: Flying Head Zombies
The moment those strange creatures appeared, everyone on the wall froze slightly. Floating heads with small spinning fans on top hovered in the air, making a sharp whirring sound.
“…What are they?” Imran frowned.
“They don’t look normal…” Neha said softly.
Even Isha narrowed her eyes, because this was the first time she had seen such zombies.
Before anyone could understand, Carol spoke while looking at them, “They are Flying Head Zombies.” Even she looked slightly surprised. “These shouldn’t be here…”
But before anyone could process her words, James said coldly, “I don’t care what they are, I’ll kill them,” and fired a bullet.
The shot pierced straight through one Flying Head Zombie, and its head dropped to the ground. For a moment, it looked like the game was over, but then the head moved again and rose back into the air, starting to fly once more.
Seeing this, everyone was shocked.
Because for them, destroying a zombie’s head was always the most effective and easiest way to kill it.
But these zombies didn’t die.
“Let me do it,” Arjun said. He dashed forward, jumped high, and with a swift motion of his sword, cut one Flying Head Zombie into two halves.
Both halves fell to the ground, and it once again looked like the fight was over.
But then, the halves twitched, moved, and suddenly pulled back together, reattaching before rising into the air again.
“What the fuck?!” James shouted in shock.
Not only him, everyone was stunned because it was the first time they were seeing something like this.
“They don’t die…?” Raghav muttered.
“They’re already just heads…” Imran said slowly.
Even Isha’s expression turned serious as she looked at Carol and asked, “…What are they? How do we kill them?”
Since Carol had seen many types of enemies, she should know how to deal with them.
Carol observed them calmly and replied, “For killing them, you need to burn them completely until they turn into ash. Normal zombies die when their head is severed, but these are already just heads, so cutting won’t work.”
Hearing that, Pooja stepped forward immediately as flames ignited in her hand. “Good,” she said, and flicked her wrist, sending a fireball forward. The Flying Head Zombie was engulfed in flames, and within seconds it turned into ash and disappeared.
Seeing that, everyone’s tension dropped slightly.
“Alright,” Isha said, her voice steady again, her earlier worry gone. “Let’s go and kill all the zombies.”
Without hesitation, she jumped down from the wall, and one by one Pooja, Arjun, James, Raghav, Imran, and the others followed, activating their powers and preparing for battle.
At the same time, the Phantom Sprout vanished from the wall, and the Assassin Sprout also jumped down.
As always, the Fire Mage Sprout started the battle with Ember Meteor, cleaning a huge wave of normal zombies in one strike. Many Flying Head Elites were also caught in the explosion and died together with them.
Pooja, seeing that, first killed the rest of the Flying Head Zombies with her flames, then finished off the surviving elites.
Finally, they switched their targets toward the Apex Zombies.
Meanwhile, the Water Mage Sprout and Isha had already arrived in front of the three Wall Breakers.
With only the Apex Zombies and the three Wall Breakers remaining on the battlefield, the fight entered its final and most dangerous phase.
The Phantom Sprout, which had just fully formed, didn’t waste a single second. The moment it landed, its body flickered and dissolved into dark mist, completely vanishing from sight.
Even the sharpest eyes on the wall couldn’t track it. It moved like a living shadow silent, weightless, and undetectable.
A few moments later, one of the Apex Hulkings that was charging toward Isha suddenly froze mid-step. A thin, violet-glowing blade had silently appeared from behind its neck.
The Phantom Sprout had re-materialized for a fraction of a second, delivered a perfect Shadow Assassinate, strike to the vital point, and vanished again into mist before the Hulking could react.
The Hulking’s head tilted unnaturally, then fell off with a dull thud. The massive body collapsed without ever seeing its killer.
On the other side, the Assassin Sprout moved with explosive speed and precision. Its compact, bark-armored body made almost no sound as it dashed across the battlefield. It targeted a group of Apex Armored Zombies that were trying to flank the Guardian and Warrior Druids.
Using Silent Step, it closed the distance in a blur. Its leaf blades extended with a sharp ’shing’ glowing with faint energy. In one fluid motion, it slashed across the neck joints of two Armored Zombies, cutting through the weak points with lethal accuracy. Before the third could turn, the Assassin Sprout had already repositioned behind it and delivered a critical Leaf Blade Strike to the base of its skull.
The three Armored Zombies fell almost simultaneously, their heavy bodies crashing to the ground.
The Phantom Sprout reappeared again near a Plague Bringer that was trying to spread more toxic clouds. It created two Mist Clones that distracted the monster, drawing its attention. While the clones exploded into dark mist and disrupted the Plague Bringer’s focus, the real Phantom Sprout slipped through the shadows and struck from behind with Shadow Assassinate, piercing straight through one of the toxic sacs. Purple energy seeped into the wound, causing the sac to rot and collapse from the inside.
The Plague Bringer shrieked in agony as its own poison backfired.
Meanwhile, the Assassin Sprout continued its deadly dance. It weaved between the remaining Apex Zombies, using its superior speed and reaction to strike vital points repeatedly.
Every slash was clean, every movement economical. It didn’t engage in prolonged fights, it hit and moved, hit and moved, leaving a trail of fallen elites in its wake.
The two new sprouts worked in perfect harmony with the existing team. The Guardian and Warrior Druids tanked and controlled the bigger threats, the Fire Mage and Light Mage provided area control and anti-shadow support, while the Assassin and Phantom Sprouts acted as the deadly blades in the dark, silently eliminating high-value targets and creating chaos from the shadows.
Even the three Wall Breakers were struggling. Isha and the Water Mage Sprout kept them occupied, while the Phantom Sprout occasionally flickered in to deliver surprise cuts to their joints and launcher arms, weakening them further. The Assassin Sprout supported by picking off any Elite Zombies that tried to assist the bosses.
On the wall, everyone watched in stunned silence as the two newly born sprouts proved their worth immediately. Their stealth, speed, and precision complemented the brute force and control of the other sprouts perfectly.
Vikram stood with a small, satisfied smile, quietly observing how his growing team was working together.
The eighth wave was nearing its end, and the Assassin and Phantom Sprouts had already shown why they were worth the Growth Acceleration used on them.
With the last Apex Zombie falling, the battlefield grew eerily quiet.
All 80 Apex Zombies, Hulkings, Colossi, Plague Bringers, and the Shadow Lurker, had been systematically dismantled. The Guardian and Warrior Druids had tanked and crushed the heavy hitters, the Fire Mage Sprout had burned through formations, the Light Mage Sprout had stripped away darkness and illusions, and the two new sprouts had delivered the silent, lethal finishing blows from the shadows.
Now, only the three Wall Breakers remained standing.
They stood tall and menacing, their massive fused RPG launchers still smoking from earlier failed shots. Their rotten eyes burned with rage as they glared at the small group of Plant Sprouts and awakeners surrounding them.
Isha stood at the front, her expression calm but focused. The Water Mage Sprout hovered protectively beside her, ready to neutralize any rockets.
The three Wall Breakers roared in unison and raised their launchers, aiming at Isha and the main group.
But before they could fire, the Phantom Sprout vanished again.
It reappeared instantly behind the leftmost Wall Breaker, its violet-glowing leaf blades flashing in a silent arc. Shadow Assassinate struck true, slicing deep into the launcher arm’s joint. The Wall Breaker’s arm jerked violently, causing its first rocket to misfire into the ground.
At the same time, the Assassin Sprout dashed forward with explosive speed. Using Silent Step, it closed the gap in a blur and delivered a series of rapid Leaf Blade Strikes to the knees and legs of the middle Wall Breaker, weakening its stance and slowing its movements.
The Guardian Druid and Warrior Druid charged the rightmost Wall Breaker, drawing its attention with heavy shield bashes and blade strikes, keeping it occupied so it couldn’t support the others.
The Fire Mage Sprout and Light Mage Sprout provided supporting fire, burning away any toxic residue and flashing bright pulses to disrupt the Wall Breakers’ coordination.
Isha moved like a storm. With the Water Mage Sprout neutralizing the remaining rockets, she closed in on the left Wall Breaker. Channeling her Super Strength into her legs, she leaped high and delivered a devastating kick to its chest, cracking its armor. She followed up with rapid, enhanced punches, each one landing with bone-shattering force.
The three Wall Breakers tried to fight back, but they were now completely surrounded and overwhelmed. Their rockets were useless against the Water Mage’s Tidal Guard, their heavy punches were dodged or blocked, and their attempts to coordinate failed under the constant harassment from the Phantom and Assassin Sprouts.
One by one, they fell.
The first Wall Breaker’s launcher arm was severed by the Phantom Sprout, then finished by Isha’s powerful strikes.
The second was brought to its knees by the Assassin Sprout’s relentless leg attacks and crushed by the combined force of the Guardian and Warrior Druids.
The third tried to fire a desperate final rocket, but the Water Mage Sprout neutralized it completely before Isha delivered the killing blow.
THUD… THUD… THUD…
All three Wall Breakers collapsed heavily onto the ground, their massive bodies motionless.
The eighth wave was over.
Silence settled over the battlefield once again.
On the wall, the defenders stood in collective awe. No one cheered loudly, they were simply too drained from the constant shocks of the night. But the looks on their faces said everything: Vikram’s growing Plant Team had turned what should have been a desperate defense into a one-sided domination.
Vikram stood quietly, watching his sprouts return toward the wall. The Assassin Sprout and Phantom Sprout moved with quiet confidence, their new forms already proving their worth in battle.
