Chapter 1380: Fight After Sweets?
“Mistress? Mistress!”
I woke up with a start and I realised there were sounds of shouting and metal clashing against metal echoing out around me.
I blinked and sat up quickly, realising that I had been laying on top of a bench inside of the sweets store.
I assume my girls brought me here after I fell asleep eating all those sweets.
Aside from Katsuki, I don’t see any of my girls around… Heck, it looks like the store was also emptied out as no one else was inside the store as well.
“What’s going on, Katsuki? How long was I out?”
“Just a few hours, Mistress… We’re under attack, Mistress.”
“By what?”
“Demons, Mistress…”
“What?! Why the heck are there demons here?!”
Without waiting for an answer, I rushed outside to see the sky tinged crimson and parts of the forest on fire in the direction of the arena.
What the heck?! I was just enjoying sweets a few hours ago and now everything is on fire?! What the heck is this?!!
In the air above the arena, I could see figures of what looked like red skinned, winged demons diving down at the people below, presumably to attack them.
One such winged demon flew over in my direction and spotted me, flaring their wings to stop themselves in midair before diving down towards me.
In its hands was a wicked looking black spear with a jagged spear tip and it was pointed straight at my chest.
I didn’t even need to do anything as Katsuki appeared above it and slashed at its neck, slicing its head clean off.
The demon’s corpse crashed down in front of me and I got a good look at it.
From its figure, it looked like the stereotypical red skinned imps that you might find in fantasy stories though these are Mahun sized instead of being smaller.
Additionally, they seemed to be wearing armour as well though the armour was quite simple in design.
I looked back at Katsuki who was cleaning her blade of the demon’s blood casually like killing a demon was an everyday occurrence for her.
“Katsuki, what is going on exactly?” I asked materialising my swords to start running in the direction of the arena.
Katsuki easily kept pace beside me, “We are still piecing together the series of events, Mistress… It started when a demon showed up at the edge of the arena and we thought there might be a Dungeon break nearby so a few Dungeoneers were gathered and set off in that direction to scout. But they came running back soon after with a horde of demons behind them.”
“So is this a Dungeon break?”
“We are not sure, Mistress. I believe there were no records of a Dungeon nearby. If there was one, it must have been a hidden one for it to go undiscovered for so long.”
“What’s the situation now?”
“Everyone is holding back the demons right now, Mistress. Since the people gathered here are all fighters, we are repelling the demons relatively well. The only problem is that there seems to be a few demons who are immune to physical attacks and there’s not many magic users here which is the one thing that we are lacking.”
Talk about bad compatibility I guess… But at least everyone here is basically a fighter so no one should be panicking about needing to fight.
I reached the arena to see that it had turned into a warzone, which if I thought about it… Wasn’t really that different from what the arena was being used for to begin with so one could even mistake this for another event.
The only difference is that anyone who dies here stays dead instead of being teleported outside.
Seriously, we were all just having fun and competing with each other just a few hours ago and now we’re all suddenly in a fight of our life…
I took a moment to scan the battlefield and everyone was locked in melee combat with the demons while scattered around the arena.
It doesn’t look like anyone had organised the defense into a coherent group which led to everyone breaking off to fight amongst the demons in individual groups.
While the people here easily took down the demons that relied on strength to overpower their opponents, the ones that were resistant to physical attacks easily crushed through the defenders.
I spotted one of those demons shifting into some kind of mist form when a Mahun swordsman tried to slash his sword through its torso, letting his blade pass through its body without leaving a single scratch.
In response, the demon raised its hand and let out a blast of fire that completely burned off the poor guy’s head, leaving his half burnt corpse on the ground.
My girls were also in the arena doing their best to fight back against the demons but there were just too many of them pouring out of the forest.
For every demon they slew, two more would pop out to take their place.
And from the looks of it, the demons weren’t pushovers either as I spotted Odeta literally wrestling with another large, muscled demon that was holding its ground against my Amrap lover, indicating it had strength on par with her.
There were also what looked like succubi hovering up in the air throwing spells down at the people below, using their Infernal magic to strike down their targets.
Not good, I see that we already have a number of deaths on our side and the tide of demons was pushing us back and also surrounding isolated groups to cut them off…
At the rate that this is going, we might actually be overwhelmed.
I stomped my foot on the ground, the earth shaking from the impact and sending out a shockwave that blew through the arena.
Everyone paused for a moment, surprised by the sudden earthquake before turning to look in my direction.
“All defenders, cover your eyes!” I shouted.
At the same time, I raised my hand and shot out a [Light Flash] that was aimed at the entire arena.
Most of the defenders trusted me and did as I asked immediately while the demons and those that didn’t were blinded by the light.
“Defenders! Rally to me!! Form a defensive line! We’ll beat them back together!!” I instructed.
I also buffed everyone around with [Strength], relying on my Shadow Guards to target all of our allies to allow them to break free from the encirclement.
My girls immediately converged around me, prompting the others to follow suit as well.
They worked together to break out from their melee and even dragged along the others that were too slow in shielding their eyes and were currently still blinded by the flash of light.
A new defensive line was formed and we had no time to waste as there were still a few others that were unable to break out of their encirclement and were now isolated.
I let out a roar and everyone surged forward as one, smashing into the disorganised demons and quickly cutting a swath of them down.
With my buffs, they were now easily overpowering the demons and they were even able to withstand some of the Infernal magic that the demons threw at them.
Speaking of those demons that were using magic…
I created a portal and teleported myself towards them, appearing in front of one of those demons that could turn into mist.
I raised my Shadow Sword to bring it down towards it, the demon smirking at me as it started to turn to mist to avoid my blow.
But before my sword reached it, the blade was lit ablaze with black flames and I sliced through the demon, the flames immediately burning the supposedly intangible mist and causing the demon to let out a scream of pain.
I left it to burn and jumped towards the succubi, shooting several [Spark Strike] spells that struck them out of the air to fall towards the ground where they were quickly eviscerated by the forces below.
A few of the isolated defenders were wailing uselessly at a large demon that showed no damage from being hit by their sword, the demon lazily swatting away one of the swordsman like flicking away an insect.
I landed in front of it and activated my Light Sword’s enchantment before cleaving my sword through the demon’s torso.
It still had the smug look on its face as it believed I could not hurt it, only for the blade of light to slice through its upper body and separate it into two halves.
“Join up with the main group!” I ordered them, cutting down another swath of demons to open up a path for them.
They nodded thanks right before a sudden crash came from the forest, revealing a demon that was as big as a building pushing its way out of the forest.
As though that wasn’t enough, even more demons poured out from between the trees, ready to join the fight as well.
Damn it… Where are all of them coming from?!
