Chapter 1381: Why Is There A Demon Outbreak?
The tide of demons pouring into the arena seemed to be never ending.
As the demons surged forward, Ira appeared above us and pointed her palm towards them.
Blood red swords appeared around her and flew towards the army of demons, eviscerating them into pieces.
The giant demon tried to push through but Tsara appeared next, her arms raised up and summon a giant block of light that came crashing down on top of that demon, smashing it into the ground.
Light then shot out from that block that pieced through the bodies of the other demons that had been unfortunate enough to stand near it, turning them into dust.
But even with that, even more of those demons showed up to replace the ones they just killed. It’s like we were facing a never ending tide of them.
I’m pretty sure at this point they were spawning from somewhere and unless we stopped whatever was doing that, we will be stuck here fighting a never ending wave of demons.
“We need to look for the source of this!” I called out, shooting a [Lightning Rod] to electrocute some of the demons that leapt out from the undergrowth.
Odeta turned to me, “Sister Aster! Go! We will hold the line here!”
I nodded at her before turning to Ira and Tsara, “Both of you, follow me!”
I picked them not out of favouritism but more because of the fact that they weren’t used to working together with my girls yet.
In that fight, I can trust my girls to be able to hold out against the demons by themselves but even with their superior firepower, Ira and Tsara might mess their tempo up during the fight.
Thus, I might as well bring them along as my backup to deal with whatever was spawning those demons.
I did leave a few of my Shadow Guards behind to hide in the shadows to help buff and heal them so they shouldn’t be overwhelmed so easily either.
We flew above the army of demons and while we had to deal with some of the flying ones, they went down relatively easily especially with these two OP cult leaders that simply swatted them out of the sky.
Eventually, we reached a clearing where six robed and masked figures were standing in the shape of a six point star. In the middle of the formation was a large portal where demons were continuously pouring out from it.
Those six figures had their arms raised as though they were praying towards the portal and I could feel some kind of energy flowing through them towards the portal.
Even though they were masked, I could clearly tell that these figures were demons since they had horns growing out of their heads and the arms that were exposed were the same shade of red as the demons that were pouring out of the portal.
Either that… Or they were Infrids which I do not believe was the case.
Before I could even say anything, Ira had summoned a spear made of blood and tossed it at one of the masked demons.
The spear pierced through the demon’s head, completely separating it from its body and leaving only a headless corpse behind.
Both Tsara and I looked at Ira and she shrugged at us, “What? Was I supposed to just watch them?”
Honestly, I would have done the same myself but Ira was just faster.
With the death of one of those masked demons, the portal flickered and it got noticeably smaller, allowing fewer demons to pass through at a time.
Well… Now that we know these demons were tied to the portal…
I shot a [Spark Strike] towards one of them while Ira and Tsara shot their own attacks at another target.
However, right before our attacks hit them, a blue barrier appeared and all of our spells fizzled out of existence when it came into contact with it.
Ok… I can accept my spell being ineffective since it wasn’t exactly that strong of a spell to begin with… But for it to be able to cancel out Ira and Tsara’s spells as well meant that this was no ordinary barrier.
Ira wasn’t convinced as she shot a red beam of light at the barrier but the result was the same where the moment it came into contact with the barrier, it just fizzled away.
It wasn’t like the spell was exploding against the barrier to leave no damage, it’s more like the moment it hit that barrier, the spell just ceased to exist completely.
“Is that a barrier that completely nullifies magic?” I asked.
Tsara lifted up her hand and a pillar of light struck against the shield, only to dissipate as well.
She frowned, “Seems like it… But…”
The Trasif flew over to the barrier and thrust her hand towards it, only for her arm to pass through the wall like it wasn’t there.
But as soon as she did so, she snatched her hand back just as quickly and frowned, “This is not just a barrier that nullifies magic… This is a field of magic nullification. Anything within that barrier that has magical properties will be nullified.”
Then, as if to mock her, a bolt of red lightning suddenly streaked towards her from within the barrier.
Tsara managed to block it by summoning a shield of light in front of her right before it hit her.
The shield only managed to hold on for a second before cracks started to form but that was enough time for Tsara to move out of the way before the shield completely shattered, letting the lightning pass through the space where she had been just a second ago.
Ira furrowed her brows, “Didn’t you just say that it’s a magic nullification field?!”
“I did!”
“Then what was that? Was that not magic?!”
“I don’t know!”
Wait… That… I know now.
“It’s not a complete magic nullification field,” I explained, materialising a Demonic Core in my hand. “This barrier still allows Infernal magic to exist inside it.”
Ira smirked, “Oh, why didn’t you say so?”
She raised her hand again, gathering blood red lightning in her arm before she shot it towards the barrier, only for the lightning to dissipate as well.
Ok so… She also knows Infernalmancy magic? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised…
Ira frowned at the barrier while I also used the Demonic Core to charge up an [Infernal Lightning] before shooting it at one of the masked demons.
Unlike Ira’s lightning, mine passed through the barrier easily and struck one of them in the back, piercing a hole through its body and causing the portal to shrink even more.
I looked down at the Demonic Core I was holding, “I think… Part of the requirement is also tied to having a Demonic Core I guess?”
“Lady Aster!”
I looked up right as one of the masked demons shot a red beam at me.
I managed to spin away before the beam pierced through where my head would have been if I hadn’t moved out of the way.
Right as I managed to dodge that, the other three masked demons also started shooting red beams at me, trying to shoot me out of the sky.
“The two of you, thin out the number of demons heading towards the arena! I’ll deal with these guys!” I ordered.
I dove towards the group of masked demons, passing through the barrier as I weaved through the array of attacks they were shooting at me from below.
The moment I passed through the barrier, I could feel my mana being restricted, like someone had placed a stopper on a bottle or something.
That didn’t matter to me as I drew out the mana from the Demonic Core and used it to fuel my next cast of [Infernal Lightning].
I ducked underneath a beam of red light and fired the charged lightning towards the masked demons.
I had even intentionally flown to a lower altitude so the lightning ended up piercing through two of the masked demons, leaving only two left.
With only two demons left to try and shoot me down, I could dodge their attacks more easily and lined myself up for another shot of [Infernal Lightning] which also struck down both of them at the same time.
The moment the last two masked demons fell, the barrier around the portal winked out of existence and the portal shrunk all the way down to the size of a coin before it completely disappeared.
However, I realised that in its place was a Mahun that was levitating in the air where the portal had been, only to drop back down onto the ground when it disappeared.
I had no time to worry about that guy since the demons that had come through the portal were still around so we had to start clearing them out as well.
At least… That was what I thought until I realised Ira and Tsara were already wiping them out with their magic, completely obliterating them in a sea of red and white.
Hmm… Guess I actually have time to look at that guy after all.
