Chapter 78: Ch 78: Fainting Spells, Whispers, and Warm Chaos
The lively energy in the living room shifted in an instant as Zhao Yichen’s pained cry cut through the air. "Ack!" he screamed, the sound sharp and dramatic, momentarily shattering the peaceful, joyful atmosphere that had wrapped around everyone like a soft blanket.
The golden afternoon light still streamed through the windows, but the sudden noise made the moment feel electric. Su Wanyan snapped out of her lingering embarrassment, lifting her face from Mo Xingxue’s thigh with a worried frown. She stood up quickly, her gentle expression shifting to one of concern as she looked behind her.
"What happened?" Su Wanyan asked, her voice steady but laced with genuine worry as she moved toward the commotion. Mo Xingxue felt the pleasant warmth on her thigh disappear and let out a soft, disappointed sigh, her fingers twitching slightly as if missing the closeness.
Shen Guoxing, still nestled beside her, noticed the subtle reaction immediately. She looked up at Mo Xingxue with an ambiguous, knowing glint in her young eyes—one Mo Xingxue had seen many times in the other guests’ faces whenever they teased her and Su Wanyan. Mo Xingxue felt her cheeks heat up under the weight of multiple burning gazes.
Instinctively, she reached out and gently covered Shen Guoxing’s eyes with her palm. Shen Guoxing was startled at first, but then she giggled, covering her mouth to try and suppress the sound. Mo Xingxue shook her head fondly and pulled her hand back. "Come here," she said softly, patting the empty space on her left side.
Shen Guoxing nodded obediently and settled there, soon turning her attention downward to play with little Mo Yan, who gazed up at her jiejie with bright, curious eyes.
Meanwhile, back near the small pile of bodies, Su Wanyan and Song Meiyu were fussing over Qin Yuran. Su Wanyan knelt down carefully, checking for any signs of injury, while Song Meiyu hovered with a mix of concern and amusement.
Zhao Yichen, still on the floor, was trying to shake her off, wriggling his body with exaggerated groans. "Don’t move," Su Wanyan said, giving Zhao Yichen a light, exasperated tap on the shoulder.
Zhao Yichen pouted dramatically. "But my back!" he reasoned, his voice full of theatrical suffering. "I think I broke my lower back," he added pitifully, his lips pushed out in an over-the-top pout.
Just then, a loud gasp echoed through the room. Everyone’s attention snapped back to Qin Yuran, who had woken up panting, still sprawled across Zhao Yichen’s back as he squirmed underneath her. "It was just a dream...." she murmured, letting out a long sigh of relief as awareness returned.
"Get off of me!" Zhao Yichen complained, rolling over abruptly to dislodge the heavy load. Qin Yuran, unprepared for the sudden movement, hit the back of her head on the floor with a soft thud and finally snapped out of her daze. She blinked rapidly, rubbing the throbbing spot as she sat up.
Then she stood up fully and looked down at Zhao Yichen, who was still lying there in a disheveled state. "Thank you, bro," Qin Yuran said with deep emotion, grabbing one of his hands. "You woke me up from my nightmare," she added, holding on tightly. Zhao Yichen and the others exchanged exasperated glances.
In response, Zhao Yichen simply nodded. "Okay, okay, I get it," he said, trying to pull his hand back. But Qin Yuran held firm, looking like she still had more to say.
"You don’t know how....!" Qin Yuran paused, her eyes tearing up. She glanced at Su Wanyan. "It was hard...." she said, nodding solemnly. Zhao Yichen and Su Wanyan looked at each other, then back at her. "What was?" Su Wanyan asked softly, treating her like one of her little patients and offering gentle comfort.
Qin Yuran sighed and beckoned them closer. Su Wanyan blinked in confusion but obeyed, leaning forward. Zhao Yichen sighed but sat up and leaned in as well. The three alphas formed a tight little circle, and Qin Yuran finally whispered, "I had a dream where Song Meiyu and I had fifty children."
Su Wanyan held in a shaky breath, fighting the sudden urge to burst out laughing. Zhao Yichen pulled back sharply. "Fifty?!" he screamed, eyes wide with shock as he stared at his friend like she had grown a second head. "Shh! Keep it down!" Qin Yuran whisper-shouted, yanking him back into the circle.
Zhao Yichen blinked, realizing his mistake, and quickly covered his mouth. "Fifty?" he whispered back, still utterly shocked by the absurd number. Qin Yuran nodded heavily, and the three of them continued their hushed conversation in their makeshift huddle, voices low and full of exaggerated disbelief.
Song Meiyu watched the three alphas with a sigh and a fond shake of her head. "Yuyu," Han Jiho called from nearby. Song Meiyu turned and saw him waving her over. "Leave those three idiots," he said bluntly, laughing lightly. He patted the empty space on his left. Song Meiyu laughed and walked over, settling down beside him.
Shen Guoxing, who had been happily playing in front of her, suddenly remembered the scary uncle still standing there with his gift. "Ah!" she let out, looking at Lin Xuanyu.
She hopped off the plush sofa and walked toward him. "I’m sorry, Uncle," Shen Guoxing said, bowing her upper body politely. Though she was still scared of this uncle, she remembered what Aunt Wanyan had taught her: if you do something wrong, apologize properly.
Lin Xuanyu looked at the trembling child and internally rolled his eyes at her pitiful appearance. Just to spite her, he considered letting her stay bowed. But he noticed the three omegas watching him closely, along with the staff and even his beloved Gu Chengze.
Lin Xuanyu snapped out of his pettiness. After all, Gu Chengze knew him as the sweet and smart omega, not some petty one. Lin Xuanyu smiled sweetly and waved his hand. "There’s no need for you to bow," he said, chuckling.
Shen Guoxing breathed a sigh of relief and straightened up. Lin Xuanyu stepped closer, still smiling, but Shen Guoxing instinctively took a small step back. He didn’t seem to notice her discomfort.
"Here," Lin Xuanyu said, stretching out his hands to offer the gift. Shen Guoxing looked at him, then at the package, and took it. "Thank you, Uncle," she said, bowing her head again before hurrying back to sit beside Mo Xingxue.
Lin Xuanyu’s smile froze once more, his aura turning momentarily murderous. Uncle again?! I’m still young! he fumed inwardly. Not wanting to ruin his image, he simply waved at Shen Guoxing one last time before returning to his seat.
The three omegas watched his retreating back carefully. Once they were sure he wouldn’t make any further moves, they relaxed. The group continued conversing in a light-hearted mood.
Then Han Jiho remembered something. "Oh, right," he said. He reached behind the sofa and retrieved a big, cutely designed gift box. "Here," he offered with a soft smile, enjoying how Shen Guoxing’s eyes lit up with delight.
"You’re the uncle who always gives me big gifts!" Shen Guoxing exclaimed, looking up at him with a bright, genuine smile. Han Jiho laughed softly. "Yeah, I’m that uncle," he confirmed. Then he pointed at himself. "Do you know my name?" he asked expectantly.
Shen Guoxing nodded repeatedly. "Yeah! Because you don’t leave notes or letters, I asked Aunt Wanyan about you!" she said proudly, puffing out her chest.
The three omegas chuckled at her adorable confidence. Even little Mo Yan seemed amused, letting out happy babbles and showing off her gums.
"Oh, really?" Han Jiho asked, leaning back. "Then what’s my name?" Shen Guoxing smiled even brighter. "Uncle Han Jiho!" she declared, her childish but proud tone melting Han Jiho’s heart.
He clutched his chest dramatically and grabbed Song Meiyu’s shoulder. "Let’s kidnap their babies," he said seriously. Song Meiyu widened her eyes, then recovered and nodded. "Yeah, let’s do it after the show ends," she replied, equally serious.
Mo Xingxue looked at the two in exasperation. "I can hear you," she said, feeling a headache coming on. Han Jiho and Song Meiyu glanced at her. "You didn’t hear anything," they both said in perfect unison, then sat properly again as if they hadn’t just been plotting a crime.
Mo Xingxue simply shook her head, which made Shen Guoxing burst into laughter. Seeing her jiejie so happy, Mo Yan joined in with delighted babbles.
The barrage viewers watching the show couldn’t help but gush over the two children.
