Chapter 82: Ch 82: A Table for Two

As the sun climbed higher and grew hotter, casting a bright, golden warmth across the villa, Su Wanyan finally finished folding the last of the children’s clothes and packing them neatly away. She remained seated on the floor for a moment longer, stretching her upper body with a quiet sigh of relief.

Glancing at her watch, she noted the time inwardly: 1:37 PM. It’s been forty-seven minutes since I started packing the children’s things, she mused, a small, satisfied smile touching her lips.

"Xuexue, where should—" Su Wanyan’s words caught in her throat as her gaze landed on Mo Xingxue’s ethereal sleeping face. Her breath hitched softly. She studied her childhood friend with quiet wonder.

Mo Xingxue looked so peaceful, as if lost in a blissful dream, her long lashes resting gently against her cheeks and her mouth slightly agape in the most innocent way.

Seeing that, an involuntary chuckle escaped Su Wanyan. She stayed right where she was on the floor, completely forgetting the question she had meant to ask.

Su Wanyan simply stared, her right hand slowly reaching out almost of its own accord. She tenderly tucked a stray strand of hair behind Mo Xingxue’s ear, then obediently returned her hand to her own thigh. She continued to appreciate the serene expression on her childhood friend’s face, letting the moment linger.

No matter how much I look at her face.. it’s like seeing her for the first time and being stunned all over again, Su Wanyan thought, her heart quickening its pace. A rush of heat traveled from her neck to her cheeks and up to her ears, but she didn’t look away.

This time, she simply allowed herself to gaze at Mo Xingxue.. and for once, she didn’t try to logically analyze the emotions swirling inside her.

As Su Wanyan continued staring in a dazed admiration of Mo Xingxue’s beauty, she completely forgot that the camera was still recording. Because she had scooted sideways instead of turning her back to it, the lens captured not only her gentle actions but also her lovestruck expression, sending the barrage into an immediate uproar.

[This comment section is still as chaotic as ever, huh?]

While some viewers swooned over the wholesome scene, others spread their usual playful chaos. Yet none of it disturbed the peaceful, serene atmosphere enveloping the two women.

Just then, Mo Xingxue let out a small, subtle shiver. It passed quickly, and her expression returned to serene calm. No one else noticed.. except Su Wanyan.

Su Wanyan snapped out of her daze and hurriedly stood up, rushing to their room so fast she almost seemed to teleport. The barrage reacted with immediate confusion.

[Eh? Eh?? EHH??]

[LMAO]

Just as they were teasing the copyright police and spamming song lyrics, Su Wanyan returned holding a soft blanket. She carefully draped it over Mo Xingxue’s body, tucking her in comfortably.

Mo Xingxue’s expression softened even further, and a small, content smile appeared on her lips even in sleep. Su Wanyan let out a sigh of relief and wiped away imaginary sweat from her brow.

She looked at the two suitcases and pulled them carefully toward their room, moving as quietly as possible so as not to disturb Mo Xingxue’s rest. After finishing, Su Wanyan checked her watch again—1:56 PM. Mo Xingxue might be hungry when she wakes up, she thought. She left the room and headed straight to the kitchen, determined to prepare a meal for her.

Su Wanyan opened the refrigerator and carefully selected ingredients one by one: two ripe tomatoes, five fresh eggs, green onions, peanuts, ginger, and garlic. From the freezer, she took out chicken breasts. She gathered additional spices and staples from the cupboard, then rolled up her sleeves, tied on her apron, and got to work.

Su Wanyan placed the final dishes on the table and smiled in quiet satisfaction. She had prepared Tomato Egg Stir-Fry, Kung Pao Chicken, and Steamed Egg Custard—all of Mo Xingxue’s favorites. Checking her watch, she saw that a full hour had passed. She removed her apron, folded it neatly, and set it aside.

Su Wanyan walked back to the living room and found Mo Xingxue still asleep. With a fond smile, she approached and gently called out, "Xuexue." Mo Xingxue didn’t budge, remaining lost in sleep.

Su Wanyan smiled helplessly and tried again, rocking her shoulder lightly. "Xuexue, Xuexue." Mo Xingxue finally cracked one eye open, looking at Su Wanyan with sleepy confusion. Just as Su Wanyan thought she was waking up, Mo Xingxue murmured languidly, "Five more minutes," and closed her eyes again.

Su Wanyan was stunned for a moment, then laughed in fond exasperation. She tried waking her once more. "Xuexue, Xuexue." Mo Xingxue continued sleeping, paying her no mind. Su Wanyan sighed and patted her head gently. "If you don’t get up now...." she began, her eyes lighting up with a mischievous glint as she remembered the earlier Eskimo kiss and decided it was time for a little playful revenge. "Qin Yuran will eat your favorite food."

Immediately, Mo Xingxue’s eyes flew open and she sat up. "What?" she asked groggily. Su Wanyan laughed brightly. "I knew you’d fall for it!" she said, thoroughly amused by Mo Xingxue’s dazed and confused expression.

Mo Xingxue glared at her and pouted coquettishly, then turned her head away from Su Wanyan. Su Wanyan chuckled and sat down on the sofa. "I’m just joking about Qin Yuran finishing your food," she started, planning to coax her best friend. "But I did cook your favorite dishes," she confirmed with a warm smile.

Mo Xingxue’s pout softened, and she curled her lips upward. She grabbed Su Wanyan’s hand. "Let’s eat, then," she said, standing up and pulling Su Wanyan along with her. Su Wanyan simply smiled and let herself be led.

As they arrived at the dining room, Mo Xingxue’s eyes lit up at the sight of the dishes. She pulled Su Wanyan to the table, gently but firmly guiding her to sit before taking the seat right beside her.

Mo Xingxue first reached for the glossy plate of Kung Pao Chicken. It looked exactly as she remembered—the chicken coated in a rich amber sauce, roasted peanuts nestled among tender pieces of meat and crisp green onions. Steam curled upward, carrying the familiar, mouthwatering fragrance of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and dried chilies.

A small, contented smile tugged at the corner of Mo Xingxue’s lips.

Without hesitation, she picked up a piece and brought it to her mouth. The moment it touched her tongue, her eyes softened with pleasure. It was perfectly tender and juicy, the sweetness, savory depth, and slight tang blending harmoniously while the gentle heat lingered just enough to warm the palate without overpowering it.

Mo Xingxue’s phoenix eyes turned into soft crescents as she reached for another piece, then another, and another.

Su Wanyan, seeing her pleased expression, smiled warmly. I’m glad she likes it, she thought, feeling her heart bloom with quiet joy. But this feeling was different somehow—warmer and fuzzier than usual, accompanied by a strange flutter in her stomach.

Su Wanyan snapped out of her daze when she noticed Mo Xingxue finishing the Kung Pao Chicken. She reached for the Tomato Egg Stir-Fry. "Here, give this one a chance," she said with a small, satisfied smile. Mo Xingxue looked at her and nodded. She swallowed the chicken and reached out with her chopsticks.

She took a bite of the Tomato Egg Stir-Fry. The eggs were soft and fluffy, the tomatoes sweet with just the right touch of acidity to balance the dish. It was delicious. Really delicious.

Then Mo Xingxue scooped up a spoonful of the steamed egg custard. It was silky and smooth, practically melting on her tongue. Mo Xingxue smiled, her head nodding involuntarily in appreciation.

Seeing that, Su Wanyan’s eyes shone brightly as she watched Mo Xingxue eat with such gusto. Mo Xingxue noticed the intense, warm gaze on her and picked up a piece of chicken, bringing it to Su Wanyan’s mouth. "Ah~" she said softly. Su Wanyan was taken aback, but seeing the anticipation in Mo Xingxue’s eyes, she sighed fondly and opened her mouth to eat it.

Mo Xingxue smiled in satisfaction and continued eating. this time, however, she also fed Su Wanyan, the two of them wrapped together in the soft, warm afternoon sunlight.
