One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1428 - 1425: Delivered to the Door
Both Igor and Douglas had a look of astonishment, but Amoon remained calm.
Amoon crouched down, covered his mouth and nose with a handkerchief, and then carefully examined the mummy.
After a while, Amoon stood up, looked at Igor and Douglas, and smiled faintly.
"Don't worry, as long as it's a corpse, I can find the clues. I won't let the threads break here."
Having said that, Amoon began drawing and writing on the ground, and Igor and Douglas saw that the dry soil turned a golden yellow, as though undergoing some kind of transformation.
"This mummy is not naturally air-dried; the moisture in the body disappeared abnormally," Amoon said softly as the soil beneath his feet turned from golden to black and moist, as though water had appeared on the mud.
"Do you know why there are only a few wild grasses growing here? Or why there are hardly any wild beasts around?"
Amoon asked, but Igor and Douglas were clearly not attracted by this question.
"It's not because it's a remote place; it's because something exists here."
Suddenly, Amoon reached into the ground and pulled out a long, fat creature.
Zi la zi la —
The creature struggled in Amoon's hand, making strange noises, and water droplets continued to seep out from its body, looking very watery.
"Is this... an Earth Leech?" Igor asked cautiously, obviously not entirely sure about the answer. He had seen the description of this thing in the Spirit Book, but he was unsure.
"That's right, it's an Earth Leech!" Amoon looked at Igor with a changed expression, thinking that this young man was quite knowledgeable.
"Earth Leech? Is this the thing that's hard to define as either a plant or an animal?" Douglas asked, still holding great doubts.
As a Hunter, he could find a worm in the soil, yet he didn't discover such a large thing, which was indeed amazing.
But the Earth Leech is essentially a peculiar existence; it has animal characteristics but lacks animal traits, possesses plant shapes but lacks plant states, making it difficult for Hunters and Wizards to define what it truly is.
Because of this, Douglas didn't notice its presence, as his Secret Sensing Skills couldn't detect the taste of this Earth Leech.
However, Amoon easily found this thing, making Douglas more curious about who Amoon actually was.
Amoon's discovery made Douglas feel that this guy was not merely an Alchemist, but rather like a Wizard, no, with the skills of a Scholar. In any case, Amoon knew too much.
"We still don't know how to define it, but its presence proves that this corpse was drained by it," Amoon said with a chuckle, showing a keen interest in the creature.
Igor and Douglas looked at the Earth Leech writhing its body in surprise, as it was their first time encountering this thing, and Amoon's calmness made them feel quite ashamed.
"Now we can identify that this corpse is the one Douglas buried. Sorry, before actually seeing the corpse, I kept a certain distance from you. Now I think we can openly discuss the situation." Obviously, Amoon was a straightforward person who never sheltered himself; he admitted his mistakes immediately.
Igor was quite happy because now everyone trusted each other, making things less complicated.
"Now, although Brass's body is dry, we can still see something on it, such as whether there are wounds, which can still be discerned."
Amoon seemingly knew everything from astronomy to geography, knowing even tasks usually performed by Wizards when examining corpses, which was genuinely surprising.
"Why do you know so much? Are you a Wizard?" Douglas questioned, feeling very strange about these matters.
"Hehe, I'm an Alchemist, just knowing a little about some knowledge!" Amoon remained modest, not divulging much.
The mummy's skin was intact without any signs of injury, except for a wound on the back, caused by the Earth Leech draining water.
From any angle, there were no traces of harm on Brass's body.
"Now, the possibility of assassination can be excluded!" Amoon exclaimed confidently regarding this matter.
"I told you so!" Igor was very excited and delighted by this result.
Douglas didn't speak; he seemed to feel that this result made things more complicated.
He would prefer Brass to have been assassinated; although that would involve questionings from Amoon, they would at least know their enemy was a person.
Now, Brass was actually devoured by some Soul Devourer, which seemed mysterious, and he was unwilling to think about it because it was way too complex.
"This result confirms your perspective, Igor!" Amoon said to Igor.
"Indeed, I have a bit of experience regarding this aspect. After all, I've fought against these creatures several times..."
"Watch out!" Douglas interrupted Igor before he could finish, tackling him, just as a black arrow pierced the ground!
The arrow burned rapidly after hitting the ground, leaving no trace, as if a master used a high art of assassination.
"Speak of it, it arrives!" Amoon remarked coolly from the side.
"There's more than one person, be careful!" Douglas immediately got up from the ground and warned Amoon.
"You're the expert in this area; I'm not good at it. Tell me the position, and I'll force them out," Amoon remained calm as he seemingly didn't regard these uninvited guests with any concern.
Igor stood up slowly from the ground, still unclear about what was happening.
At this moment, more arrows appeared from different directions, showing these assassins were experienced, changing positions in the blink of an eye.
"Unexpectedly, they are coming on their own; we were just worried about running out of clues!" Amoon said with a grin, feeling confident about the current situation.
Regardless of who the enemy was, he showed no fear, as his smile signaled everything.
