Chapter 1427 - 1424: The Trail Has Gone Cold

The three of them barely spoke along the way.

Igor was a bit puzzled why Amoon would be doubtful of Douglas, wasn't this matter obvious?

But Igor was the youngest among the three, always feeling that his words had little weight, so he didn't really ask what was going on.

Everything would become clear once they reached their destination, Igor thought, and by then all the truths would be revealed, and the discord between Amoon and Douglas would naturally unravel.

Although Igor never really figured out what this discord was about.

Amoon felt that he could not easily trust what Douglas said. Over the years, he had been wandering in this world, accustomed early on to doubting everything, and he absolutely could not easily believe what he hadn't seen with his own eyes.

This was one of Amoon's principles. He was cautious about Douglas's words, hence showing a kind of distrust and skepticism.

As for Douglas, he felt that anyone like Amoon, who wouldn't even reveal his real name, must be hiding some secret, so he had to be wary of such a person.

They weren't like Igor, so simple, so quick to trust someone.

So they all remained silent.

The place where Douglas buried Brass wasn't far, but the path was hard to walk. It was relatively secluded and seldom had beasts roam around, making it a decent burial site.

From this burial site, one could see that Douglas had a kind heart. At least he knew to choose a good burial place for Brass.

"Um, two elders," Igor couldn't help himself. He felt the atmosphere was too strange, and he couldn't stand it, needing to say something.

"Two elders, how long do we have until we reach there?" Because of this uneasy atmosphere, Igor had to ask this trivial question, and in his heart, he also looked forward to reaching the destination soon.

"Soon," Amoon replied softly. He didn't find the atmosphere awkward; he felt everything was developing normally.

Douglas remained silent, thinking that speaking right now would mislead people, so it was better not to speak.

Thus, they walked in awkward silence for a stretch. They arrived in a desolate place with only a few stalks of wild grass, looking very desolate, no wonder the beasts seldom visited here because it was so barren.

"Once upon a time, our ancestors of the Kayne faced such barrenness, yet they eventually established their own Empire," Amoon was suddenly moved by the scenery.

"Yes, the wisdom of the ancestors always surpasses our imagination; such barren land is also waiting for new wise men to come and develop it," Douglas seemed to be moved too.

Their animosity suddenly disappeared because of this barren land.

This really made Igor very surprised; he couldn't understand what was going on.

"We've arrived, Igor!" Amoon turned to Igor and said.

"We arrived?" Igor was once again stunned. He couldn't understand why they reached the destination so quickly.

Just a moment ago he felt the destination was far, now it seemed close, and Igor was confused about what was happening.

The real distance was not on the road but in one's heart.

After Igor understood this principle, he would no longer be surprised at the previous contradictory feelings.

They had now reached the destination, the place where Douglas buried Brass.

"You buried him there?" Amoon turned and asked. Now they need to check the body to find some clues from the deceased.

"Under that wild grass, it's the tallest one," Douglas said.

There weren't many stalks of wild grass in this desolate place; Amoon quickly found it.

Amoon clasped his hands and murmured something, writing an Alchemy Equation.

Whoosh—

A burst of thick smoke, and there was suddenly a long-limbed monkey on the ground.

This fellow wasn't a monkey; it was a Burrowing Beast, with long and strong arms that were very useful for digging.

Amoon waved his hand, and the Burrowing Beast limped towards that wild grass; with its long limbs, it seemed like it was going to fall with each step.

"Go!" Amoon commanded, and the Burrowing Beast started to work.

Igor watched in a daze; he had never seen an Alchemist summon an Exchange Beast like this. Such a display made Igor feel that this Amoon was definitely not an ordinary Alchemist.

It wasn't long before there was movement from the Burrowing Beast, unearthing a huge grass mat that naturally wrapped around Brass's body.

"You even wrapped him in a grass mat," Amoon looked at Douglas, with a face full of disbelief.

"Once a person is dead, their sins disperse with the wind," Douglas said.

Igor thought there was some truth to that, but he didn't think hard about it, hastily following Amoon to the Burrowing Beast.

The grass mat slowly unfolded, revealing the wrapped body.

"What is going on!" Igor exclaimed first, clearly shocked by the scene in front of him.

Seeing Igor's surprised expression, Douglas hurried over, and upon seeing Brass's body, he was also shocked!

"How could this happen! Why, why has it become a mummy!"

Douglas shouted in shock at the scene before them, as this was not how the body looked when he buried it.

Now it looked like a mummy, as if it had been dried a long time ago.

The face of this body was completely unrecognizable, with a wide-open mouth revealing teeth, looking quite eerie.

"Now it's hard to tell if this is truly Brass!" Igor said, such a situation left him unsettled, as it threatened to increase misunderstandings more and more.

"This is incredibly strange!" Douglas was also puzzled.

It seemed all the clues ended here, which was a very bad sign for them.

"Don't worry," Amoon was the calmest among the three, seemingly prepared for all contingencies.

Igor and Douglas were both taken aback; they didn't understand the situation at all, especially Igor, who never expected Amoon to be so calm when he thought Amoon would be anxious and question Douglas.

But now, it seemed that things were not as he imagined, and Amoon was not the kind of person he thought he was.
