One-Eyed Monster

Chapter 1434 - 1431: Practice

The Spirit Book is in a good mood, for the past few days, it finally found someone it could communicate with normally.

His current master, Igor, although a decent fellow, is a bit slow and can't keep up with his pace.

Previously, its feelings towards Igor were quite complex: deep hatred at times, fear occasionally, and at times, deep sympathy.

However, after this guy spent some time in the Library of the Yonder Travel Academy's dean, he became more diligent, which made them quite pleased.

Still, he's slow-brained.

He can't even explain shortcuts well; it's just a matter of not having enough brainpower.

Thankfully, these people are quite adept at conversation; if he were an unreasonable fellow, it wouldn't come out to help.

"Lord Soron and his admirers once paused by this river; they analyzed it thoroughly, and many parts of the river are swift, entirely unsuitable for navigation."

The Spirit Book spoke very slowly, not hurried at all, while Igor listened anxiously, as everything the Spirit Book was saying was already known; it was purely repetitive, wasting time.

"You must have patience, Igor. Reading a book requires patience, and so does conversing with the Spirit Book." Amoon gently reassured Igor, who was frowning.

"Uh, but..."

"Follow its logic, and you'll make new discoveries," Amoon continued.

"You won't go wrong if you listen to him." Douglas said, arms resting behind his head, looking like he was just there for the show.

"Hey, hey, you all need to respect my narrative, don't be absent-minded like this, disrespecting me is a great disrespect to Lord Soron."

Although Igor knew that this Spirit Book was exploiting Lord Soron to compel people, he restrained himself, as patience was needed.

"Oh, we were just a bit puzzled, but not anymore. Please continue."

"What were you puzzled about?" The Spirit Book asked relentlessly.

"Well, we just wanted to know why there aren't many boats on this river, yet there are always towns surrounding it."

"Regarding that, there's a legend that a monster split open the river; the monster did so to completely separate the Vero Realm by cleaving this river," said the Spirit Book.

"What does this legend mean? Does it relate to the shortcut?" Igor asked, displaying a very shocked expression.

If this river was excavated by a monster, where did the monster go? Could the monster be a relative of Kadi!

"The relationship isn't substantial after all; it's just a legend, not many examine it thoroughly." The Spirit Book said calmly.

"Uh..." Igor felt disappointed.

"Look, since you know the shortcut, don't interfere; let me narrate slowly." The Spirit Book told Igor, feeling that Igor was more of a burden at the moment, hindering its flow.

"Alright, just hurry and finish. I won't disturb you." Igor was tactful, though he still found the Spirit Book quite pretentious.

Amoon and Douglas held back their laughter.

"The one who found this shortcut is none other than Lord Soron; he and his admirers stayed here for a long time, eventually discovering a shortcut to the opposite shore."

"Where's the shortcut? We can't see it," Douglas inquired.

"Can you see it? Are you also Lord Soron? Don't overestimate your ability!" The Spirit Book's sarcasm was quite sharp, speaking so directly because it was in a great mood.

Douglas, having broad tolerance, just chuckled, unfazed by the sarcasm.

The Spirit Book continued: "The river is indeed turbulent, difficult to navigate, but it isn't that navigation is impossible."

"Historically, some have navigated this river, though those are legends, and truly, no one has rowed a boat on it," Amoon said, knowledgeable about history.

"You are correct, but Lord Soron doesn't think like you do; he and his admirers quickly began the boat-building endeavor, believing he should attempt what others hadn't."

Could it be that Lord Soron really crossed the river using a boat he built himself?

"The boat-building process was quite unique, with many failures, but Lord Soron didn't lose heart; after repeated attempts, he finally built a perfect boat." After finishing, the Spirit Book showed everyone the appearance of the boat.

It was essentially a canoe, simply a more unique one, with pointed ends, and it looked quite light.

"With this, you can cross the river, but you must have a strong physique and great patience." The Spirit Book said.

"You can really cross the river with just this canoe?" Douglas apparently didn't believe it.

"How could the shortcut be like this? What you told me, and what I saw in you, are clearly different," Igor, equally excited, felt the Spirit Book was playing the role of a deceiver.

"Don't be anxious; I merely said with this boat, the river can be crossed, but I also mentioned needing great strength and patience," the Spirit Book, evidently logical.

"You're just fooling people." Igor retorted bluntly.

"Hahaha, I enjoy seeing you lose your composure." The Spirit Book clearly returned to the prankish sentiment towards Igor.

"How to truly find the shortcut? Stop being cryptic; everyone has a hard time." Amoon spoke to ease the tension.

"Alright, back to business, back to business." The Spirit Book, having vented its emotions, seemed even more at ease, originally having nothing between it and Igor, and this time was all in jest, to brighten the mood; unexpectedly, Igor took it seriously.

Thankfully, there was no conflict between it and Igor, allowing them to be partners.

"This canoe can cross the river, but the shortcut I'm referring to isn't the canoe. The shortcut is along the river's edge, where there's a mountain, not too high nor too low, resembling a child gazing afar; after mentioning this, you should know where I'm referring to."

"My heavens, you mean Precarious Watcher, that's where the river's current is the swiftest," Douglas said, well-acquainted with this river.

"You're right, it is Precarious Watcher; that place is dangerous but indeed a shortcut; it's the conclusion drawn from Lord Soron's countless attempts, whether you believe it or not doesn't matter. Because the fact is just that."

The Spirit Book spoke briskly, unconcerned about the others' shocked expressions.
