One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1442 - 1439: Song (Part 2)
"Is this song coming from the Spirit Book?" Igor couldn't believe that such a beautiful song was emanating from that Spirit Book.
Amoon and Douglas nodded, because indeed, there was nothing else here that could produce this song.
Although Igor was reluctant to believe it, the evidence was before his eyes; this celestial song was sung by the floating, phantom figure of Soron in the air. In other words, it was the Spirit Book singing!
Who would have thought that Lord Soron could sing such a song. Igor thought to himself, as he had always considered Lord Soron to be a grumpy old man.
The song soared through the air, as if the entire world was enveloped in its melody, with everyone lost in its enchantment.
Ethereal, elusive, illusory... these words were not exaggerations to describe the song. Igor and his companions felt themselves lifted up, as if standing beneath a vast blue sky, basking in the warmth of the sunlight and the freshness of the air.
In this moment, they felt completely relaxed, without any vigilance, akin to returning home.
The beauty of the song immersed them in joy, each person sincerely unwinding without any pressure. This feeling was wonderful, yet also dangerous.
In such a relaxed scene, you don't know what potential danger lies ahead, nor whether the taut string of your nerves can retighten.
Take, for example, right now, Igor and his companions hadn't noticed the subtle changes happening with the stone that wasn't quite a stone and the mountain that wasn't quite a mountain.
The song seemed to have a magical allure, as if it had form, frolicking weightlessly in the air, steadily approaching the statue, then climbing up to the finger and halting there.
This detail was very cryptic, and Igor and the others hadn't had a chance to notice it.
By the time they observed the anomaly occurring, the entire song had flown in the direction of Han Lake...
The song actually had form!
Only at this moment did Igor notice this detail, realizing how careless he had been while enchanted by the song.
The song had flown into Han Lake, like a beam of light piercing its depths. Once the song's beauty merged with the churning waters, it became soundless.
Igor and his companions were now captivated by the scene, staring at the river's surface without moving a muscle.
The whirlpool that had formed suddenly whirled more joyously; with the addition of the song, it seemed to gain color, and the changing hues made the river look particularly unsettled.
Meanwhile, the phantom of Lord Soron hovering in the air ceased singing, as if waiting, waiting for the river's response.
Swooshing sounds erupted suddenly across the river's surface, as though preparing to unleash a great torrent, with the colorful whirlpool growing larger, as though opening a passage.
Woo woo woo, la la la la...
From within the whirlpool emerged an ethereal song, even more melodious than Lord Soron's prior singing.
It was purely a song, without any lyrics.
"Is this the Water Spirit's response!" Amoon exclaimed in surprise.
"Perhaps! Judging by the commotion on the river, only the Water Spirit could be responsible!" Douglas speculated.
Igor watched the changes occurring within the river, unsure of what to say. The magic of the song left him speechless.
Soron's phantom at this moment was stepping down from the stone slab, heading straight to the riverbank, waiting silently.
Suddenly, the whirlpool within the river ruptured, revealing a passageway, and within it slowly appeared a graceful figure, indistinguishable from a human.
"Who summons us!" The voice spoke crisply.
"An old friend!" Lord Soron's phantom replied emphatically.
"For many years, there hasn't been anyone to summon us. Today, using our song to summon us, for what purpose!" The figure, shrouded in mist, was indistinct.
But Igor and his companions knew that the one speaking was certainly the Water Spirit.
"To fulfill my unaccomplished wish!"
"Our communication has ended, leaving you with the song solely to fulfill your desire. Since you wish to use it this time, we shall grant it to you."
From the dialogue between the Water Spirit and Lord Soron, Igor discerned several things. Firstly, Lord Soron previously had contact with the Water Spirit and had more accurate viewpoints on the Water Spirit than others. Secondly, Lord Soron and the Water Spirit seemed to have made some agreement, whereby the Water Spirit could help Lord Soron fulfill a wish. Lastly, it was confirmed the song wasn't sung by Lord Soron; Lord Soron remained the grumpy old man.
"All right, I have provided my descendants with an opportunity. Whether they can seize it is up to themselves." Lord Soron's phantom said, implying he had truly done his best.
"State your wish. We know you're no longer in this world; this residual thought we can feel. Regrettably, we have lost a friend, a human friend."
The Water Spirit's tone seemed to carry a trace of regret about Lord Soron no longer being in this world.
"Please help my young friends cross this Han Lake!" Lord Soron made his request.
"Fine, no problem, we will assist, but if they harbor malicious intent during the crossing, we will naturally handle them." The Water Spirit decisively promised without hesitation.
"If they have malintent, deal with them harshly, don't hold back!"
"Okay!" The Water Spirit concluded before disappearing into the mist. Throughout the event, Igor and his companions never managed to see the true appearance of the Water Spirit.
The river resumed its previous visage, sometimes the waves crashed against the shore, while at times it returned to calm.
Igor and his companions gazed at Lord Soron's phantom, filled with countless questions.
"I don't have much time left!" Soron's phantom said, being maintained by the Spirit Power of the Spirit Book, carrying only part of Lord Soron's memories.
"Is there anything else you wish to convey?" Amoon respectfully asked, despite the fact that this wasn't truly Lord Soron, they still held deep respect.
"Remember one thing: trust, mutual trust can resolve everything." After this, Lord Soron's phantom gradually faded away, leaving behind the Spirit Book on the ground, its pages flipping in the wind...
