One-Eyed Monster

Chapter 1445 - 1442: Romanvis

Igor knew that they must change their attire.

The decorations of the Wensi Empire and those in the Kayne Realm were quite different. Perhaps because there was more water in the Vero Realm, the clothing here was more simplistic, unlike the complex attire of the Kayne Realm.

Igor knew they only needed to change these clothes on their backs to enter Romanvis. After all, the ancestors of the Kayne people were originally Mantai and Vero people. They were merely driven out of their original lands by these narrow-minded Mantai and Vero ancestors, creating a different civilization amidst desolation. This fact had always been a source of pride and a form of pain for the Kayne people.

Igor knew this history. Over time, the Mantai and Kayne maintained some physical differences, as the Mantai always adhered to a survival-of-the-fittest method of selection, only keeping strong children. As adults, the men preferred to shave their heads and keep beards… (Igor couldn't understand why the Mantai retained these customs). Thus, from appearance alone, it was easy to distinguish Mantai from Kayne, but it was different for the Vero. When the Vero ancestors faced the rise of the Kayne, they abandoned the old rules of elimination, retaining those who lacked an advantage in swimming, as they realized they couldn't conquer the Tree Spirit and Water Spirit and needed enough manpower…

In short, the Vero and Kayne people appeared identical.

Take the Sol Brothers, for example. They had always lived in the Vero Realm, but in Rostov, no one could tell they were foreigners…

Igor and his companions only needed to change their clothes to seamlessly blend into Romanvis.

"Leave this task to me. Your forms are too likely to be exposed; stay hidden outside the city, and once everything is ready, you can come in with me," Douglas said.

They quickly left the riverbank and reached the gates of Romanvis. Although the gates were open, they didn't dare enter directly as their attire was too conspicuous.

"This is really where your expertise comes in," Amoon said.

Douglas was at ease. He was quite familiar with such tasks, requiring little time to adapt.

Though Igor knew this wasn't ideal, thinking of their mission, which concerned the survival of the entire Kayne and possibly all of humanity, he felt it necessary for Senior Douglas to make the trip.

Douglas's figure vanished into the crowd. Romanvis wasn't overly prosperous, but it was quite populated.

There was another reason for the crowdedness.

Although Romanvis was a border city of the Wensi Empire, it strategically meant little to Wensi Empire, as the border was the Han Lake, a river guarded by Water Spirits.

Wensi Empire believed the Water Spirits in Han Lake provided natural protection, making it impossible for any formidable army to attack, so there were almost no Wensi troops stationed there, only some aristocratic private forces.

These private forces were naturally Wensi troops, but the aristocrats hid these treasures there to preserve their strength.

Anyway, Romanvis rarely faced invasions, so their private forces seldom engaged in battles; maintaining them here was better than in places with constant conflict.

This was a selfish move by the nobility to preserve their strength, but recent changes made them realize this selfishness harmed the entire Wensi Empire…

These were Wensi Empire's own matters, which couldn't help Igor and his companions, as they hadn't reached that level of consideration.

Although the Wensi Empire wasn't very strong in defense here, they couldn't be neglected. They aimed to complete their exploration unnoticed, avoiding alerting the Wensi Empire.

In truth, Romanvis was a gathering place for many people.

As compared to other regions, this place was relatively safe; no one coveted it, making it relatively secure. Many Wensi Empire refugees came here to escape disasters and inner fears, making it their sanctuary, with its population constantly high.

Surrounded by water, with abundant resources, none who came here would starve as long as they had hands and feet to find food.

In a sense, this city was also an anomaly.

Though Romanvis was a relatively large city in the Wensi Empire, its status there might be among the lower ranks. Despite its abundant resources, it couldn't bring any benefits to the empire, as these resources were seasonal and would auto-destruct over time, making transfer impossible, a trait that left the high officials of the Wensi Empire disappointed, viewing this city as a place left to its own devices.

Diligent people liked this place because efforts were rewarded. The mountains and waters wouldn't let them down, always providing good returns.

So Romanvis, though abandoned by the Wensi Empire, was not abandoned by its people. Built by industrious people, the city retained its characteristics…

Not wealthy, but not impoverished, with passable scenery…

Truth be told, Igor was quite satisfied with such a place, feeling it had a sense of simplicity…

Douglas had been out for a long time. After coming from the riverbank, they hadn't eaten, their stomachs rumbling in hunger, but they could only hide in a small grove outside the city gates.

Though the Stealth Ability wasn't as good as Douglas's, hiding wasn't hard; only physical form could be hidden, not the hunger in their bellies!

"Once inside, I'll have a good meal!" Igor said, rubbing his belly.

"Me too!" Amoon echoed. Being with Igor seemed to bring him closer to life, as if his past experiences were a burdensome existence.

Perhaps this was the charm of Igor!

"I wonder what the city is really like; I've never left the Kayne Realm…" Igor was still quite expectant about Romanvis.

"Maybe, this city isn't as wonderful as you think."
