Chapter 247: 247/Everything Was a Pure Lie
Chapter 247
Stephanie’s point of view
Before I could take another step toward the doors, the sharp screech of tires shattered the courtyard’s quiet. I turned around slowly to see a sleek luxury car pull up recklessly right behind mine.
The door swung open, and Isabella stepped out in her full, towering elegance, a venomous smile of triumph curling her lips. She slammed the door shut and marched up the steps with supreme confidence, adjusting her coat as she sneered:
"Hello, dear Stephanie..."
I stood my ground, my face completely blank:
"Hello..."
Isabella stopped at the threshold, her eyes darting between me and Alexander, who watched the scene with terrifying calm, one hand buried in his trouser pocket and his glass balanced in the other.
She tilted her head, her voice ringing out loud and dripping with malicious satisfaction:
"It’s time to expose your buried secret!"
I narrowed my eyes in mock confusion:
"What do you mean?"
Ignoring me, Isabella turned sharply toward Alexander, her words slicing through the air like sharp daggers forged from suppressed hate:
"Alex... do you know your dear brother Cedric and your sweet wife Stephanie are fucking behind your back?!"
The words echoed through the courtyard... but silence was the only answer that fell over the space. Not a single muscle twitched in Alexander’s face; his hand didn’t shake, and his breathing didn’t alter. He simply stared at her with a hollow gaze, cold as ice.
A small, bitter smile slipped onto my lips mocking, filled with heartbreak and disgust. I took slow, deliberate steps toward Isabella until I was an inch away from her face. Leaning into her ear, I whispered in a low voice dripping with contempt:
"If you drove all this way just to tell him that... you shouldn’t have wasted your breath."
Isabella’s eyes widened in absolute shock. Her face drained of color as she stared at me in disbelief, then turned to look up at Alexander standing at the top of the stairs, unmoving. Her lips quivered with rage, and she screamed at the top of her lungs, pointing a trembling finger at me:
"I’m telling you they are fucking! They are betraying you! Don’t you fucking understand?!"
I smiled with a coldness that rivaled the freezing night air, watching Isabella look like the ground was crumbling beneath her feet:
"I told you he already knows, Isabella..."
In that moment, Alexander moved his head with excruciating slowness, his voice dropping like a heavy, dry blade:
"This is none of your business, Isabella. Get in your car and get the fuck out."
I turned to Alexander with a firm, merciless expression, giving him a quiet, hidden command:
"Go inside, Alex... I’ll be right behind you."
Alexander threw me a dark, unreadable glance, then turned around without uttering another word, walking into the estate and leaving the grand front door wide open behind him.
I turned back to Isabella, who was breathing heavily, her eyes wildly searching between the open door and my face. She shook her head helplessly, whispering in utter confusion:
"How...? I don’t understand anything! How does he not care?! How can he just leave you like this?!"
I took another step closer, tilting my head as I inspected her shocked features, and asked in a low voice dripping with poison:
"Want me to tell you something else you don’t know yet, Isabella?"
Isabella froze in place, her eyes wide with total lack of comprehension, bracing for the next blow.
I leaned straight into her ear, whispering with direct, brutal clarity stripped of any shame or fear:
"They both fuck me."
Isabella’s entire body shuddered violently. Her jaw dropped in horror and utter paralysis, as if lightning had struck her where she stood. She stumbled back a step, trembling from head to toe, completely unable to process the dark extent of the brothers’ game.
I didn’t grant her a single second to comprehend or answer. I turned my back on her with complete indifference, leaving her standing under the golden lights like a statue carved of stone, and walked toward the interior of the mansion with steady, confident steps.
I stepped inside, my body trembling quietly despite the strength masking my posture.
Alexander was standing at the entrance of the grand living hall, turning calmly toward one of the maids, his voice warm and quiet:
"Prepare a warm glass of milk for my wife... she looks exhausted."
I froze in my tracks, a scalding lump catching in my throat. Wife? How could he utter that word with such icy composure? How could he lie to me with such professional ease, trapping me in a fake marriage that was nothing more than a phantom?
How was I supposed to accept that Alexander... my first love, the man I had submitted to for years... betrayed me in such a cheap way? And Cedric... the man I adored to madness, the father of my unborn children... practicing cold-blooded betrayal on my only friend’s bed?
I desperately needed a place to collapse onto the floor, a place to scream at the top of my lungs and cry until my soul was emptied of this agony... but I couldn’t find one. There wasn’t a single safe corner in this house, nor in this world as if my entire existence was nothing more than a filthy game controlled behind the scenes.
Alexander turned toward me, his eyes drinking in my face with looks full of tenderness and warmth... the same looks that used to melt my heart and grant me safety. I wondered in silent horror: How could he fake all this love? How could eyes so clear hide so much deceit?
He approached me with slow steps, raising his hand to stroke my cheek with fake gentleness:
"Baby... what’s wrong? You look so pale."
I swallowed the bitter lump with difficulty, forcing a faint smile onto my lips that drained every drop of my acting ability:
"Nothing, my love... just a little tired."
He searched my face for a few seconds, then nodded gently, holding my hand:
"Alright. I’m heading upstairs to change."
"I’ll grab the glass of milk from the kitchen myself..." I answered in a low voice.
He paused, looking at me with slight confusion:
"The maid will bring it, Stephanie. No need to bother yourself."
"It’s fine..." I looked straight into his eyes with a steel hidden behind my calm mask: "...I’ll get it myself. I just need a moment alone to breathe."
