One Piece : I Became a Monster Just by Eating

Chapter 33 Barrier-Barrier Fruit

  • Next Chapter

The next day, after having breakfast with Tashigi, Kaguya sent the reluctant Tashigi back to the Marine Base.

Carrying the Berries Kaguya gave her, Tashigi walked through the gates of the Marine Base, turning back every two steps.

Just before she returned to the Marine Base, Kaguya bought a baby den den mushi for Tashigi.

It would mature in just two months of feeding.

By then, the two would be able to contact each other via den den mushi.

And these five million Berries were the pocket money Kaguya left for Tashigi.

After all, she was his woman; since she couldn’t stay by his side all the time, he could only try his best to make up for it materially.

Kaguya only turned to leave once her figure had completely vanished from sight.

He walked slowly back the way he came, the moments spent with Tashigi replaying in his mind, a gentle smile unconsciously tugging at the corners of his mouth.

When he returned to the dragon soaring ten thousand miles, Nami was standing on the deck counting the purchased supplies.

Seeing Kaguya return, she gave a cold snort and intentionally flipped through the ledger with a loud rustle.

“Some people are certainly living it up, while us Sisters have been busy all day.”

Nami said sourly, though her eyes secretly stole a glance at Kaguya’s expression.

Kaguya smiled and pulled an exquisite box from his robe.

“This is the most famous chocolate in Loguetown; I heard girls like it.”

Nami took the box, the irritation on her face softening slightly, but her words remained sharp.

“Hmph, don’t think you can buy me off like this.”

Nojiko walked out of the cabin and couldn’t help but smile at the scene.

She took another gift box Kaguya handed her and softly thanked him.

“Is Tashigi doing well?”

Nojiko asked with concern.

Kaguya nodded.

“Her training has been very hard lately, but she’s in good spirits.”

“That’s good.”

“We’ve already bought a batch of Sea Kings meat from the merchant guild owner, but not in large quantities.”

“I paid some more deposit and asked them to send it directly to Cocoyasi Village once they have stock.”

“Mhm, I trust your handling of things.”

“How about the den den mushi?

How many did you buy?”

Kaguya looked at Nami, who was eating chocolate nearby.

“I bought four baby Communication Den Den Mushi.”

“One for each of the three of us, and the last one stays on the ship.”

“This way, whenever we land on an island in the future, we can stay in touch with the sailors on board.”

“If anything happens to the dragon soaring ten thousand miles, we can return in time.”

“Then I also bought a visual den den mushi and a Projector Den Den Mushi; I’ve put them in the lounge.”

“This way, we won’t get bored while drifting at sea for long periods.”

“Not bad, you’ve thought of everything.”

“Hmph, of course~”

“Alright, then we can leave Loguetown and return to Cocoyasi Village.”

“Are all the sailors back?”

“They’re all back.”

Nojiko nodded.

“Good, then let’s have everyone set off.”

The sails of the dragon soaring ten thousand miles slowly rose in the morning breeze, the sailors skillfully handled the ropes, and the vessel gradually sailed out of Loguetown’s port.

As they passed the spot where Moomoo was waiting, Kaguya shouted a couple of times, and Moomoo emerged from the water.

“Not bad, very obedient, you didn’t run away.”

“Here’s your reward!”

Kaguya threw two Sea Kings meat steaks, ten meters long and five meters wide, to Moomoo.

Moomoo joyfully leaped out of the water, catching the steaks in one bite and letting out a satisfied lowing sound.

After feeding Moomoo, Kaguya walked into the cabin.

In the lounge, Kaguya and Nami were studying the visual den den mushi and the Projector Den Den Mushi.

Just then, Nojiko came over carrying a plate of fruit.

“Have some fruit.”

“Mhm, I’ll have some in a bit.”

“What’s wrong?

Still haven’t figured it out?”

“I know how to use it, but I don’t understand the principle behind it.”

“It’s fine as long as you can use it; why do you need to understand how it works?”

“Just curious.”

It’s clearly the same kind of creature, yet it has so many functions.

It’s amazing.”

“Bleh~”

“Trash can!

Trash can!”

Nami suddenly covered her mouth, desperately reaching for the trash can near Kaguya.

“Hm?

What’s wrong?”

Kaguya looked up to see Nami holding a green fruit shaped like an apple, but its skin was covered in spiral patterns.

“Don’t spit it out!”

Kaguya quickly stopped Nami’s movements.

“Swallow it, or you’ll lose two hundred million Berries!”

Nami heard “two hundred million Berries”?

She suppressed her nausea and forced herself to swallow the fruit pulp in her mouth.

Instantly, an indescribable foul taste spread through her mouth, causing her entire face to scrunch up.

“What on earth is this thing?”

Nami glared at Kaguya crossly, tears welling in the corners of her eyes.

Kaguya carefully took the fruit from her hand, studying the spiral patterns closely, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

“If I’m not mistaken, this should be a Devil Fruit!”

“A Devil Fruit?!”

Nojiko covered her mouth in surprise.

“The fruit that grants people special abilities but turns them into a ‘dry duck’?”

“Exactly.”

Kaguya nodded.

“And looking at these patterns, it’s likely a Paramecia-type fruit.”

Nami, do you feel any changes in your body right now?”

Nami felt around carefully, then her hands naturally formed a shape with her fingers crossed.

A transparent Barrier appeared in front of her.

“It’s actually the Barrier-Barrier Fruit!”

Come on, Nami, eat the rest of the fruit.

I’ve heard that you have to eat the entire Devil Fruit to obtain the full ability.”

Kaguya handed the fruit back to Nami.

Nami frowned as she took the fruit, forcing herself to take bite after bite despite the nausea.

With every swallow, her expression contorted further, until her small face was wrinkled like a bun.

After finishing the last bite, Nami immediately grabbed a water cup and gulped down several mouthfuls, trying to wash away the lingering foul taste in her mouth.

“This is absolutely the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten!”

She said crossly, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

She tried making that gesture again, and a transparent Barrier instantly appeared before her, splitting the lounge in half.

“Where did this Barrier-Barrier Fruit come from?”

Kaguya asked curiously.

“All these fruits were bought together; we didn’t know it was a Devil Fruit when we bought them,”

Nojiko explained, looking equally confused.

“This luck…”

“Waaaah~”

“Two hundred million Berries~”

“Two hundred million Berries~”

I just ate it like that~”

Nami suddenly threw herself onto Kaguya, pounding his chest with her fists and complaining tearfully.

Kaguya caught her, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, and patted her back comfortingly.

“Silly girl, this is a priceless treasure.”

An ability that so many people dream of but can’t get, and you’re actually complaining?”

“Priceless treasure?

You mean it’s worth even more than two hundred million?”

“What’s two hundred million Berries?

You couldn’t buy the power of the Barrier-Barrier Fruit even for a billion.”

This is known as the absolute defense fruit ability, rumored to be unbreakable by any external force.

With this, your strength might even surpass mine.

In future battles, Nojiko will be the main attacker, and you’ll be the main defender.

The two of you working together will be invincible.”
