Chapter 284: Something foul
Chapter 284: 284: Something foul
Commander Lynn was still sitting with the little ones when Rai and Kan made their way towards him.
The two were returning from their combat practice and looked exhausted. However, the moment they saw the little ones playing, their expressions instantly lit up with smiles.
"Well, look who we have here!" Rai said as they dropped their swords beside them and came to sit near the little ones. "What are we making today?"
Kan turned to stare at Commander Lynn, raising an eyebrow. "And why do you look like a forest god?"
Commander Lynn sighed and shook his head, clearly tired of the situation.
"What are they making?" Rai tilted their head, watching the little ones’ creations take shape, but Kan could only shrug, having no idea either.
They watched Kellie work. The little black wolf was calm and focused as he put together another pretty flower hat.
"Oh, this is so pretty..." Rai smiled as they watched Kellie make his way towards Commander Lynn again.
For a while, they were all distracted by Kellie, who was struggling to place the hat on Commander Lynn’s head. They couldn’t help smiling in admiration at the adorable scene.
Unfortunately, none of them noticed when Minnie got up to her feet. She staggered and struggled to walk, slowly making her way towards the swords they’d left at the side.
Once she reached them, Minnie bent down and tried to pick one up. It took some effort, but she eventually managed to hold the sword in her little hands. She stared at it in admiration, seemingly wondering what to do with her new discovery.
Just then, Kan happened to turn around. His eyes widened at the sight.
"This... Minnie, you..."
Immediately, Rai and Commander Lynn turned towards her as well, equally shocked. They could hardly believe their eyes. Little Minnie was holding a sword as though it were nothing more than a toy!
"She can walk?" That was the first thing Rai blurted out as they rose to their feet, staring at the little cub in disbelief.
Alert to the danger, Commander Lynn slowly approached her. "Come here... Hand it over. Don’t play with such things, okay?" he said in a calm, gentle tone.
However, Minnie didn’t seem to care. She liked what she was holding and happily swung the sword from side to side as though it were a toy.
"Take it from her..." Rai urged.
"We can’t just rush over there. She might hurt herself," Kan warned.
Commander Lynn carefully approached the little cub, trying to coax her into letting go of the sword. "Here... Do you want more flowers for my hair? Drop that and don’t get hurt, okay?"
But Minnie merely smiled, continuing to play happily with the sword in her hands.
"I don’t think she’ll let it go. She seems to like that sword a lot," Kan observed.
"Do you think she’ll become a warrior? I think she likes it," Rai remarked.
The other two cast them a cold glare, causing Rai to shrug and wisely shut up.
When coaxing her didn’t work, Commander Lynn finally thought of something. He picked up the other sword from the ground and held it out towards Minnie.
"Here... A prettier sword! Keep that one and take this instead, okay?" he coaxed, trying his best to convince her.
Minnie paused for a moment without saying anything. She looked down at the sword in her hands, then at the one Commander Lynn was offering her. The little cub seemed tempted by the trade.
"Ah..." Minnie smiled before dropping the sword she was holding and immediately reaching out for the one in Commander Lynn’s hand.
The moment she let go, Commander Lynn rushed forward and scooped her up into his arms. He let out a relieved breath, glancing down at the two swords lying on the ground.
"That was a relief..." Kan muttered.
"There goes Warrior Minnie," Rai teased, earning another cold glare from Kan. They simply shrugged in response.
Commander Lynn held Minnie securely while gently patting her ears and hair. "Don’t play with such dangerous things again, okay?"
Minnie didn’t seem to care about his warning. Her eyes kept wandering towards the swords on the ground as she stretched her little hands out to grab them.
"Ah! Ah... Ya... Ya..." she babbled, clearly still interested in her newfound toys.
Watching Commander Lynn try to coax the little cub in his arms, Rai shook their head in amazement.
"I can’t believe he’s so soft... I’ve never seen this side of him before."
Kan smiled. "That’s what happens when you get a mate and have a cub. You become soft." He turned to Rai with a teasing grin. "Wanna try?"
Rai shot him a cold glare and rolled their eyes. "Shut up."
The two continued watching Commander Lynn and the little ones when, all of a sudden, an unpleasant smell drifted through the air.
"What’s that terrible smell...?" Rai asked, scrunching up their nose as they sniffed the air.
Kan joined in, looking equally confused. "I don’t know what that is..."
They sniffed around a little longer until their attention landed on Kellie, who was sitting innocently on the ground, staring up at them.
Commander Lynn had noticed the smell too. He turned towards the little black wolf, who continued sitting there as though nothing had happened.
"Oh no..." Rai blinked, slowly shaking their head. "This isn’t what I think it is... Right?"
Kan slowly nodded, folding his arms. "It sure is. I think the little one has pooped himself..."
Rai gasped and shook their head in dismay. "Oh no..."
Commander Lynn blinked before slowly approaching the little cub sitting so innocently on the ground. He crouched in front of Kellie and smiled at him.
"Oh, oh... What happened?"
"..." Kellie said nothing. He simply blinked and stared back at his papa, looking completely innocent.
Rai sighed. "I think we should go and get Ayra. She should know what to do in this situation."
Rai had absolutely no idea how to handle something like this. As far as they were concerned, they certainly needed some help.
However, Commander Lynn thought about it for a moment before shaking his head.
"No, we can’t disturb Ayra like that. She’s already worked so hard bringing the cubs into the world, and she needs all the rest she can get."
Rai stared at him in horror.
"So... What do you want to do?"
Commander Lynn turned to face them, his expression growing determined as he declared, "We’ll take responsibility..."
And just then, they caught another whiff of the foul smell nearby!
