Chapter 316: 316: Big News!
"Where are you taking our meal?" Lord Ash asked. "You shouldn’t share our food with strangers who don’t deserve it. It’s unethical."
"..."
"..."
"..."
Lord Ash’s words left everyone speechless, especially Lord Vale and Lord Zark, who had urged him to say something that would help him get closer to his daughter again.
Instead, he had done the exact opposite, throwing everyone into instant panic.
Annoyed, Ally turned and shot her father a cold look. "If you’re so protective of your food, then don’t let me eat it either, since I’m a stranger."
With that, she turned and walked away, carrying the bowl of soup in her hands.
"..."
"..."
The atmosphere grew awkward as everyone turned to stare at Lord Ash, their eyes landing on him in unison.
Lord Ash looked around at their shocked and judgmental expressions. "What? What did I do? I mean, he’s a stranger! We can’t just feed a stranger like that..." he said, attempting to defend himself.
But even the twin cubs were staring at him disapprovingly. The two shook their heads, clearly unimpressed by their father’s behavior.
"Bad papa," Minnie declared, making Kellie nod in agreement.
Neris walked up to Lord Ash and snatched the meat from his hand as punishment.
"..."
Lord Ash simply sat there, speechless.
---
Ayra was taking her beauty bath in the stream while the twin cubs happily played in the water nearby.
The two splashed water everywhere, laughing as they ran around, while Ayra peacefully enjoyed her bath.
Lord Ash sat on a rock close to the stream. Ayra had invited him to keep her and the twins company while she bathed, but he spent most of the time lost in thought. Although his eyes were fixed on the scene before him, his mind was clearly elsewhere, and Ayra could tell.
"If you’re so worried, you should talk to Ally about it. How is she supposed to understand if you don’t tell her what’s bothering you?" Ayra asked, turning towards him with a smile. "You should communicate with your little daughter. She might actually understand."
Lord Ash remained silent for a while, sitting there and staring down at the water.
"There you go, giving me the silent treatment. The Lord Ash I know talks a lot and is always so expressive. I wonder why you’ve suddenly become so mysterious..."
Lord Ash still said nothing. He simply looked up at her until their eyes met.
Ayra smiled. "I guess it’s actually more serious than I thought. I wonder what it could be..."
"If you can’t tell me, at least tell Ally. She deserves to know. Don’t be so cold towards her. I can tell you’re worried about your relationship with your daughter."
Lord Ash sighed. "You all won’t understand..." he muttered, but Ayra heard him.
She smiled at him. "How can we understand if you don’t let us know, huh?"
Lord Ash sat quietly, watching her smile at him as she gently washed herself in the water. Her words lingered in his mind, making him think.
"The kid has grown up," Ayra continued. "She’s no longer your little baby who will listen to everything you say. She has a mind of her own now, and she’s bound to be rebellious sometimes."
She turned towards him with a smile. "So you should learn how to handle her at this stage of her life. It’s about understanding her, too."
Ayra continued smiling as Lord Ash listened thoughtfully, turning her words over in his mind.
---
Later, Lord Ash made his way to the house where Ally was taking care of her patient. Ever since the rabbit had become her patient, she had spent nearly all her time there.
When he arrived, he found her outside with Zay, Nat, and Nyeon. They were supposed to be helping her prepare the ingredients for her medication, but Nat and Nyeon seemed more interested in playing around than actually helping.
"Papa!" Nyeon called out when he spotted Lord Ash approaching.
They all stopped what they were doing and looked up at him.
Lord Ash approached with both hands behind his back, clearing his throat as he glanced around as though surveying the place.
"Papa, what are you doing here? Are you here to see the sick rabbit?" Nat asked curiously.
"No, he’s not allowed to see him at all. I forbid him from even going inside," Ally declared firmly, keeping her eyes on Lord Ash.
She added, "Are you here to warn me about the rabbit again? If that’s why you’re here, then you can leave, because I won’t listen to anything you have to say. And I won’t let you see him, either."
Her expression hardened as she continued, "If you want to get to him, you’ll have to get past me first."
Zay and the two snake boys paused, exchanging awkward glances as they watched the scene unfold. The didn’t know what to expect.
Lord Ash stared at his daughter before clearing his throat and glancing around again.
He had wanted to argue with her, but remembering the earlier words he had with Ayra, he decided against saying anything that might upset her further.
Instead, he took a breath and calmed himself while he recollected the words he wanted to say instead.
"You can calm down. I’m not here to send him away or hurt him or anything like that..."
"Oh? So you’re actually here to visit him?" Nat asked curiously.
But before Lord Ash could respond, Neris suddenly rushed out of the room.
Ally had left him inside to keep an eye on the injured rabbit while they worked outside. Now, he came running out as though something urgent had happened.
"Everyone! Everyone! Big news! Big news!" he shouted excitedly.
Everyone turned to stare at him, confused.
"What is it?" Ally asked anxiously, worried that something might have happened to the rabbit.
But Neris immediately broke into a bright, excited smile while he announced the news to them without hesitation.
"The rabbit is awake! He finally woke up!"
