Chapter 2341: Chapter 1166: World of Warships

A hover car pulled up at the doors of the Iron Cathedral. The door opened, and two beautiful girls stepped out of the car.

"Dorothy, we’re here. This is the Mechanical Church of City No.003. We just need to come here to do the onboarding paperwork."

Elsa introduced it like that.

Dorothy, on the other hand, stared at the familiar-looking Iron Cathedral in front of her and felt a bit dazed for a moment.

The Underworld of the Witch World having a Church of Machinery was one thing, but now their influence has actually spread to another world as well.

Sigh, now it really is the Church of Machinery. Your Deities have come back.

The things are the same, the people...

Well, the people are still the same people as back then.

The homebody witch glanced at Elsa beside her, then helplessly shook her head. The two of them immediately walked into the cathedral.

Mm, the interior layout of the cathedral was also the style Dorothy knew so well: a chapel just like any other church, with rows of similar long pews. Only, at the very back where there ought to be a statue of a deity, there was no statue at all—just a small altar with a hammer placed on it.

It wasn’t some fancy War Hammer or anything, just a common Engineering Hammer you could see anywhere.

Dorothy was even more familiar with this hammer, since the original, genuine version of this thing was literally on her.

This was the Mandate of Heaven Scripture—"Genesis."

"Ladies, is there anything I can help you with?"

The two of them were just wandering around when a middle-aged nun in a nun’s habit walked up to them and took the initiative to ask.

The homebody witch gave this nun a quick once-over and found that the degree of Cyberization on the other party’s body was at least 90%. In other words, this was a Reserve Apostle.

So even a random nun in the Church of Machinery was this strong? Then the Mechanical Church’s overall power was kind of terrifying. No wonder people on Sky Net said that the Alliance was actually jointly ruled by the Church of Machinery and the System—just like the Alliance’s double-headed serpent flag, with the two heads referring to the System-led Alliance Government and the Church of Machinery.

Although the priests and nuns of the Mechanical Church seemed to have no secular desires at all. Most of them devoted themselves wholeheartedly to scientific research and innovation, with no time for anything else. At least eighty percent of the Alliance’s technological updates over the years had been contributed by the Mechanical Church.

Of course, every year the System also allocated the best graduates’ Heavenly Duty posts over to the Mechanical Church side. You could say the Mechanical Church itself was a gathering place for the Alliance’s top-tier talent.

"We’re this year’s graduates from Holy Acate Academy. Our Heavenly Duty is civil engineering, and we’re here today to report in."

Elsa stepped forward and proactively answered the nun auntie’s question.

Hearing this answer, the nun auntie nodded. Then a bright blue light projected from her electronic eyes, sweeping over the two girls’ faces, apparently to verify their identities.

Very soon, the nun’s eyes returned to normal, and the stern expression on her face also relaxed into a smile.

"Praise be to the God of Ten Thousand Machines. Welcome to the Church of Machinery, Student Elsa, and Student Dorothy. From now on, we’re all one family."

She became enthusiastic and greeted the two of them warmly.

"My name is Tessa. If there’s anything you don’t understand in the future, you can come to me for help. For now, just follow me."

Just like that, the two of them followed Sister Tessa and went to complete a whole stack of procedures. The onboarding process turned out to be surprisingly complicated. Dorothy discovered that their identity files had to be transferred from the Alliance archive to the Mechanical Church archive. In this way, the two of them might not even count as Alliance citizens anymore and would be completely turned into churchfolk of the Mechanical Church.

"Good grief, isn’t the Church of Machinery’s authority a bit outrageous?"

That was all Dorothy could do—silently sigh in her heart.

Fortunately, though the procedures were complex, the efficiency here was actually pretty high. You didn’t need to wait half a day for a single form; most things were done in one or two minutes. The entire process took no more than half an hour, and the two of them were officially onboard. They even received two sets of nun’s habits; from now on, they were proper nuns as well.

"Mm, since you two are partners, we’ll assign you to work at the same place. How about the 666th Legion of the Patrol Army? They’re not too far from our City No.003. The civil engineer over there just retired due to injuries not long ago, and they happen to be short-handed."

Sister Tessa checked the files and then made arrangements like this.

"Of course, that’d be great. Thank you so much, Sister Tessa."

Being assigned to the same post, Elsa was naturally pleased, so she expressed her gratitude quite sincerely.

Dorothy also nodded along to thank her, only silently grumbling in her heart.

"You’re kidding me—retired due to injuries. Is civil engineering in this world really that hardcore?"

She still wasn’t quite used to civil engineering’s status and positioning in this world.

"Mm, no need to thank me. I’m just handling official business—this was all arranged by the System anyway. Oh, right, let me remind you: you should’ve seen the morning news too. Some outside-world forces have invaded again recently, so the Patrol Army should currently be preparing a wipeout operation against those guys. Since you’re joining at this time, you’ll probably be heading to the battlefield soon."

"Although as newcomers you shouldn’t be going to the very front line, just in case, I still suggest you beef up your personal Martial Force a bit. Go onto the Church intranet and apply for some Skill Chips or Armed cyborg upgrades that can boost your Combat strength. From what I see, your Cyberization levels are both pretty low."

Sister Tessa looked over the two naturally-bodied pretty girls in front of her and kindly offered this reminder.
