Fiona Linton was rendered speechless.

She was completely stunned. Physical... compensation?

Damn it! That animal! So what if they had accidentally slept together once by a stroke of bizarre luck? He had actually held onto that for all these years! And what he was obsessing over wasn’t her, but her money! She had truly witnessed the depths of his shamelessness!

Besides, the situation was urgent. Fiona had no time to bicker with him. Gritting her teeth against the agonizing pinch to her wallet, she agreed. "Fine. I can’t transfer the money to you right now. Help me first, and as soon as I’m safe, I’ll wire it immediately!"

The man chuckled softly. "For every day you’re late, add five hundred thousand to the tab."

"You motherfucker—"

But before Fiona could finish cursing, he hung up on her!

The bodyguard watched from the side, his eyes filled with extreme bewilderment. He had never seen Doctor Linton blow her top like this. She had always been cheerful, carefree, and fond of jokes and lively atmospheres; her personality was usually as warm and bright as a ray of sunshine. Yet at this moment, she was as volatile as an erupting volcano, her eyes brimming with rage and frustration. She had clearly been played, and she was far from happy about it.

The bodyguard hesitated for a long time before bracing himself against her dark mood to ask, "Doctor Linton, can it be resolved?"

Fiona took two deep breaths, suppressing the fury churning in her chest. "Stop the car. If nothing unexpected happens, we’ll be fine."

The bodyguard was even more shocked. Just who had she called? Did this person really have that much power?

The car slowly came to a halt in the middle of the road. It was pitch-black all around; the only visible things were whatever lay ahead, illuminated by the headlights. The mercenaries were already moving toward them.

Inside the villa estate, out on the open lawn, the masked Lars held a gun, scanning his surroundings with a vigilant gaze. Right at that moment, his phone rang. He took it out and saw a familiar string of numbers.

He answered immediately. "Mr. Shaw, my apologies, but I’m not taking any missions right now."

The man’s lazy voice came through the receiver. "I know. Your people have trapped one of my clients. Her name is Fiona Linton. Do not harm her, and we will settle the bill at our previous rate."

Wright thought carefully about who this Fiona Linton was. He recalled that there were two women and one man inside the villa. One was Chloe Reed, so the other had to be Fiona Linton. Since she wasn’t a crucial target, Wright agreed. "Alright."

"It’s always so refreshing talking to you. Trying to have a conversation with your boss is exhausting," the man laughed. Then, as if making casual chatter, he asked, "Why did your team go to Breyburn? What mission are you on? Need my help?"

Wright’s tone grew stern. "Mr. Shaw, please don’t break the rules, and don’t make things difficult for me."

The man chuckled softly. "Alright, alright. Tell your men to withdraw. If you scare my client, you won’t be able to afford the compensation."

With that, he hung up the phone.

One minute later.

Fiona saw the approaching mercenaries suddenly stop. They turned and left, even clearing away the barricades on the road. Seeing this, she let out a massive sigh of relief.

That one hundred million had been well spent!

The bodyguard was utterly shocked, but he quickly regained his composure. "Doctor Linton, can’t this person save Mr. Grant and Mrs. Grant as well?"

"That would be a separate price, and it’s not my call to make," Fiona replied.

The bodyguard was rendered speechless, unable to help but wonder why this business negotiation style felt so familiar.

He restarted the car, and this time, they drove off without a hitch. As they reached the edge of the bustling city, Fiona finally felt like they were truly out of danger.
