Chapter 842: He Is Safe
Fiona Linton said, "Send the topographical map of the estate to Daniel Hayes. Also, tell him that the route we used to get out might be a way in, but they must be careful."
The bodyguard nodded. "Understood."
The tense muscles in Fiona’s body finally relaxed. She looked at the bright lights of the city ahead, then turned her head back to look at Crestholme at the end of the road. Suddenly, a profound sense of surrealism washed over her.
They were in the same world, under the same night sky, yet such unimaginable things were happening.
Fiona withdrew her gaze, silently praying in her heart that Chloe would be safe.
Inside Crestholme.
A gun barrel was pressed against Walker Grant’s head. The dancing flames illuminated the surrounding men, casting flickering shadows over them.
Time ticked by. The broadcast repeated every five minutes.
Ten minutes had already passed, and the message had echoed through the speakers twice, yet Chloe Reed still hadn’t appeared.
Wright was growing anxious. He looked at the man who had been sitting in the chair, silent ever since his call with the leader ended. Frowning, Wright said, "I heard that Mr. Grant and Mrs. Grant have a very good relationship."
Walker ignored him, acting as if he couldn’t care less about his current predicament.
Wright’s frown deepened as he continued, "But looking at it now, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Mrs. Grant doesn’t seem to care about you very much."
At those words, the previously silent man finally spoke, his tone indifferent. "It seems so."
Wright was left speechless. A stifling sense of frustration spread through his chest.
Reports from his subordinates buzzed constantly in his earpiece. Every path leading to this area was under strict surveillance. The moment Chloe Reed appeared, she would be shot dead on sight!
And yet, she still hadn’t shown up!
They couldn’t drag this out any longer. With all the commotion they had caused, it was only a matter of time before they were discovered. If they attracted more people, things would get incredibly troublesome.
Wright’s gaze landed on Walker.
The leader had ordered them not to harm him. But right now, if they didn’t do something, how were they supposed to force Chloe Reed out of hiding?
"Don’t get any ideas about me," Walker said, as if he knew exactly what Wright was thinking. "You won’t be able to bear the consequences."
Wright closed his eyes for a moment, pushing down those dangerous thoughts. Thinking of the familiar tone the leader had used when speaking with Walker, as well as his final warning, Wright dismissed his reckless ideas.
A short while later, the voice of a subordinate stationed outside the estate came through the earpiece. "Boss, someone is forcing their way into Crestholme."
Wright’s voice was cold. "Do your best to stop them. Buy us some time."
"Yes, sir."
Chloe had heard the broadcast both times it played. Her panicked heart actually settled down a fraction.
Walker was fine. As long as she didn’t show up, he would be safe for the time being.
Realizing this, she was no longer in such a desperate rush. She inched her way toward the bartending room, staying vigilant for any lurking dangers while trying to come up with a countermeasure.
She was getting closer and closer to her destination, and the dancing flames grew brighter and more distinct.
Chloe finally stopped behind an artificial rockery to take a brief rest and gather herself. She checked her phone. An hour had passed since the incident began. Surely, after all this time, it must have attracted the attention of the outside world.
Because of this, she just needed to stall for a little more time.
After resting for two minutes, she stood up again and headed toward the bartending room.
But this time, a bullet struck right in front of her, slamming directly into the wall. The deep hole it left behind was a terrifying testament to its destructive force.
