Chloe Reed paused her steps; that person was back.

She turned around and looked into the pitch-black darkness behind her. Beside the artificial rockery stood a few trees. Obscured by their shadows, she couldn’t see anything.

"Who is it?" Chloe asked.

A gentle breeze blew past, carrying a hint of a chill, but no one appeared to answer her question.

Chloe walked back. "Who... who exactly is it?"

She circled around to the back of the rockery. There was nothing. There was nothing behind the trees, either.

The person was agile and an expert marksman. If he wanted to hide, there was no way she could find him.

He appeared time and time again, and every time, he helped her. So why did he refuse to show his face? Why wouldn’t he let her see what he looked like? Who exactly was he?

Chloe stood rooted to the spot, her gaze incredibly complex. Clutching the gun tightly, she hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I have to... go back."

She didn’t know if the other person could hear her, but she needed to voice her thoughts.

"He saved me... many times. I owe him... a lot." Her voice was hoarse, but she could mostly speak in coherent sentences now. "I’ve... always wondered how I could... ever repay him. Now... I have the chance." Chloe tugged at the corners of her lips, offering a bitter smile. "I... don’t want to owe him."

She simply didn’t know how else to repay him. So, she had to go back.

After she finished speaking, she waited where she stood for two minutes. The air remained quiet. The night breeze swept past, making her feel the chill. The distant sound of firecrackers drifted over, vaguely reminding her that today was the Spring Festival.

Since he hadn’t appeared or said a word, she took it as his silent agreement.

She turned around and headed toward the mixing room.

But just then, out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a tall, slender figure standing behind the shadows of a nearby tree.

Shrouded in darkness, the figure’s features were indistinguishable, but she could be certain it was a man. He was tall and broad-shouldered with long legs. The moment he appeared, his sharp, commanding aura could no longer be concealed.

Chloe stopped in her tracks and stared intently, but without a single sliver of light around, she couldn’t make out his face.

"Who... are you?"

Confusion washed over her face, but she felt no fear; after all, this person had saved her time and time again.

The man didn’t speak. He remained standing by the large tree, yet she could distinctly feel his gaze resting on her.

Chloe took two steps toward him. She was just about to say something more when a sudden burst of chaotic footsteps approached. Instantly on high alert, she ducked behind the rockery.

In the darkness, over a dozen figures came running rapidly from another direction. The man leading them was burly and heavily built.

Even without seeing his face clearly, Chloe recognized him immediately. It was Daniel Hayes! He was here! Not just him—his subordinates and Walker Grant’s bodyguards were all here!

Chloe immediately stepped out from behind the rockery.

"Who is it?!" Daniel sensed the movement sharply and snapped his head in her direction, raising his gun to aim. When he realized it was a slender woman, he relaxed.

"Chloe?"

"Mhm." Chloe hummed in acknowledgment and quickly walked over to him.

Daniel rushed to her side, asking with concern, "Chloe, are you hurt?"

Chloe shook her head. "No."

Daniel breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank god. These sons of bitches sure know how to pick their moments. It’s a good thing you’re okay. We came in through another door, and we have people waiting over there. I’ll get you out of here right now!"
