Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 844: Peace of Mind
"No..." Chloe Reed shook her head in refusal.
Daniel Hayes frowned, a look of confusion crossing his face. "Why? It’s dangerous here. Why do you still want to stay?"
Chloe took a deep breath. "Walker Grant... is over there." She pointed in the direction of the flickering flames and turned to look. The dancing firelight reflected in her eyes, making her gaze shift unpredictably. "Rescue him."
Daniel’s expression grew complex. He stared at Chloe, remaining silent for a moment.
What kind of person was Walker Grant? He wasn’t just the CEO of Grant Group; he had a much more mysterious background. Daniel had always been guessing his true identity. He collaborated with Lucas Shaw. They could be called friends, yet every transaction was strictly about money. But if they weren’t friends, why had Lucas specifically instructed Daniel to follow Walker’s orders?
At first, Daniel genuinely wanted to figure out who Walker was, but after coming up empty for so long, he simply gave up. Now, seeing how much Chloe cared, Daniel hesitated, unsure if he should share his speculations. On his way here, he had already learned that Walker was being held hostage. The mercenaries wanted to use Walker to force Chloe out of hiding.
"Chloe..." Daniel thought for a moment before deciding to tell her what he suspected. "Actually, even if you don’t go, he might not be in any real danger." He chose his words carefully. "He isn’t as simple as he appears on the surface. He definitely has his own ways to save himself."
Chloe turned back to him, a hint of shock in her shimmering, fire-lit eyes. Her lips parted slightly before she finally spoke. "But... I’m the one who dragged him into this."
She didn’t know if he had the ability to save himself. All she knew was that he was currently blind, had no subordinates by his side, and had no way to contact the outside world. She had dragged him down, so she had to be the one to get him out.
Daniel scratched his head, suddenly unsure of what to do.
Just then, the third broadcast echoed through the area.
Chloe tightened her grip on her gun, having quickly regained her composure. "I will... go over there... with you. You all... save him. As long as he’s... safe, I’ll be at ease."
She could stay hidden in the dark and not reveal herself, but if she just left without knowing what happened to him, her conscience would never let her rest.
"Alright," Daniel finally agreed to her plan.
Just as they were setting off toward the mixing room, Chloe spoke up again. "Send... a few people to the stables. Preston Vance... is over there. He’s injured."
Daniel nodded. "Okay."
Only then did Chloe feel relieved. Following behind Daniel, she cautiously made her way toward the mixing room.
The raging fire had already destroyed the buildings around the area, illuminating the entire vicinity with its blazing glow.
Walker sat on a chair, his head slightly bowed. A man stood beside him with a gun pointed directly at his head, scanning the surroundings with extreme vigilance.
When Chloe arrived, this was the scene that greeted her. She was currently disguised as a bodyguard. Hiding behind Daniel and his men, she was fully geared up from head to toe. Since there were also female bodyguards in their group, she didn’t attract any unwanted attention.
Holding her gun with both hands in a defensive stance, she fixed her gaze squarely on Walker.
