Chapter 847: Is There Really No Room Left?

  • Next Chapter

Chloe Reed smiled, reaching out to gently rub her face. “I’m fine.”

Fiona Linton nodded. “Thank goodness we’re both okay. It’s just Mr. Vance who was a bit unlucky to end up getting hurt.”

The two of them walked toward the emergency room together, stopping at the door to wait for Preston Vance’s treatment to finish.

Unable to sit still, Fiona recounted everything that had happened over by the cold storage to Chloe. Hearing about her call for help, Chloe paused in surprise. “That person you know is really impressive.”

Fiona looked utterly disgusted. “I’d rather not know him. The guy is a walking jinx. He brings up money no matter what he’s doing and has absolutely zero compassion. It’s like he’s fallen straight into a money pit.”

Chloe smiled softly. “As long as he can… solve the problem, that’s what matters.”

Fiona didn’t deny that, but rubbed her temples with a headache. “His prices are just outrageously expensive.” Changing the subject, she asked, “What about Walker Grant? Wasn’t he taken hostage? How is he?”

Chloe lowered her eyes slightly. “He’s fine.”

She had stayed in disguise until the very end, watching Walker leave. When he had asked about her whereabouts, she had shaken her head at Daniel Hayes, signaling him not to tell him.

What had she been thinking at that time?

Perhaps she thought that if Walker believed she was ungrateful, he wouldn’t cling so tightly to their past relationship. Maybe he would finally let go, and they could part ways naturally when the time came. It was simply too dangerous to be around her. One careless moment could lead to someone getting hurt, and she didn’t want to see that happen again.

A flash of complex emotion crossed Chloe’s watery eyes, but she quickly hid it away.

Beside her, Fiona said, “It’s good that he’s okay. From what I can tell, he’s no ordinary person either. Those guys probably wouldn’t dare mess with him so easily.”

Hearing this, Chloe furrowed her brows slightly. “Does he… know those people?”

“It’s just a guess,” Fiona replied. “But hearing what you said makes that guess even stronger. Those mercenaries injured plenty of people along the way, so why didn’t they dare lay a finger on Walker?”

Chloe genuinely hadn’t thought about that. Soon, she couldn’t help but recall Walker’s physical combat skills and marksmanship. He had even set up a shooting range in the basement of Jardinelle. He was also able to get in touch with William Quinn.

His true identity might really not be that simple.

So, Daniel had actually been right. Whether she showed up or not, Walker would have been perfectly fine. That was for the best. This way, she wouldn’t drag him down.

Not far away, a bodyguard watched this scene with a particularly serious expression. He had reestablished contact with his colleagues, who were asking for a status update.

“I brought Doctor Linton to the hospital, and Ma’am is here too. Preston Vance is the one who got hurt.”

At Jardinelle.

Walker felt the desolate chill in the air. He sat on the sofa, white gauze wrapped tightly around his eyes, his face completely devoid of expression.

Chloe wasn’t here.

Just moments ago, he had asked the bodyguard, only to be told that Chloe was at the hospital accompanying Preston Vance. Walker lowered his head slightly. Inside the pitch-black villa, his figure seemed as though it would be entirely swallowed by the darkness. His breathing was heavy, and he maintained this posture for a long time.

After a long while, he finally muttered, “Do I really have absolutely no place in your heart anymore?”

His eyes, which hadn’t felt anything for a long time, began to ache faintly again. He massaged his temples to alleviate the pain, but for some reason, the more he rubbed, the more intense the agony became.

In the end, his body collapsed heavily against the sofa, thoroughly consumed by the darkness.
