Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 846: Why Not Tell Him?
Outside the estate, a car was parked by the entrance. Daniel Hayes helped Walker Grant in.
"Take me to Chloe," Walker said immediately.
Daniel’s expression grew more complicated. He glanced back and said, "She’s already returned to Jardinelle. I’ll arrange for someone to take you back. I need to stay here and deal with these people."
"Mhm," Walker replied. "Get a casualty count."
"Will do." Daniel’s face turned serious. This incident had dragged in many innocent people, and it was hard to say how they were faring right now.
The car drove off in the distance.
Daniel turned around and looked at Chloe Reed, who had been standing behind the crowd the whole time. "Chloe, why didn’t you come over? Why didn’t you tell him yourself that you’re fine?"
Chloe took off her headpiece, her hair a messy tangle. She reached up to gather her loose strands before speaking. "As long as... he’s fine."
She looked up at Daniel and asked, "Who... were those people?"
Daniel’s expression grew grim. "They’re an international mercenary organization. That masked man is named Wright. I’ve dealt with him a few times and even carried out a mission together, so I recognized him. Their organization will take any job as long as the money is right. To deploy this many people at once, it seems the other party paid a hefty sum."
A layer of frost settled over Chloe’s small face. Vera Holloway really spared no expense, throwing money around time and time again just to kill her.
"It looks like that Vera still hasn’t given up," Daniel said. "She’s like a lingering ghost."
Chloe didn’t say anything more. She lowered her eyes and wiped down her handgun. As the night breeze blew past, a chill swept through her body.
Daniel tapped his earpiece, then looked at her with a complex expression. "Chloe, they found Preston Vance, but his condition isn’t looking too good."
Hearing this, Chloe looked up at him. "What... happened?"
She remembered that Preston was injured when she left. His back was bleeding profusely, and the wound must have been deep. After so much time had passed, could he have...?
Seeing her imagination running wild, Daniel quickly interjected, "No, he’s not dead. He’s just fallen into a coma. I’ve already arranged for someone to take him to the hospital. Do you want to go see him?"
Chloe nodded.
She had to. Preston had been injured taking a knife for her. She had to go see him.
"Let’s go then," Daniel said. "I’ll have someone drive you."
"Mhm."
Once she got into the car, Chloe’s phone regained a signal. Soon, her ringtone began to chime. It was an unfamiliar number. She answered it.
"Chloe, it’s me!" Fiona Linton’s anxious voice rang out. "How are you? Did Daniel manage to reach you?"
"I’m... safe now," Chloe replied.
"That’s a relief!" Hearing this, Fiona immediately let out a breath. "I was scared to death tonight. I really didn’t expect something so thrilling to happen here. Those people were incredibly brazen."
"As long as... we’re all fine," Chloe said.
"Yeah. Where are you going now? I’ll come find you. No, I have to see you with my own eyes to feel at ease," Fiona insisted.
Chloe told her where she was heading, and the two agreed to meet at the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Fiona lunged at her the moment they saw each other, wrapping her in a tight hug.
"Chloe, I was so scared..." she cried out, sounding terribly pitiful and wronged. There were still a few smudges of dirt on her small face.
