Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 888: I Also Have Selfish Motives
Preston Vance sighed. "I didn’t sleep very well."
Chloe Reed pulled her gaze back from Walker Grant and asked in confusion, "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
"The driver came back and told me you were crying your heart out," Preston said. "I wanted to call you, but it was late, and I didn’t want to disturb your rest. So I stayed up most of the night, worried about you."
Chloe’s breath caught, but she quickly covered it up. "I don’t know. I drank too much and blacked out."
"So, you don’t even remember why you were crying?" Preston asked in surprise.
"Yeah." Chloe offered a helpless smile. "This happens when I drink too much, which is why I rarely do. I’m always afraid I’ll do something completely irrational when I’m drunk. I’m sorry you had to see me make a fool of myself yesterday."
"Not at all." Preston’s tone was exceptionally gentle. "I was just worried about you. But since you’ve forgotten, let’s not bring it up again. There’s no need to remind you of things that might only make you sad."
Chloe could feel his gentleness and consideration. He was always so mild and kind to her.
She looked up again, just in time to see Walker stand up and head toward the dining room. Fiona Linton tried to go over and help him, but he pushed her away, insisting on walking forward by himself.
A sharp pang twisted in Chloe’s chest.
Preston’s voice drifted back through the phone. "Chloe, have you thought about what I said yesterday?"
"I haven’t made up my mind yet," she replied. "Give me a little more time."
"Sure, there’s no rush. Take your time." Preston’s voice remained soft. "I don’t mean to pressure you. If you feel it’s not right, you can always refuse my proposal."
"I know," Chloe said. "You’re only looking out for me."
Preston chuckled. "I have my selfish reasons, too."
Chloe, however, cut in, "Preston, I have to go. Something came up on my end."
"Alright. I’m being discharged from the hospital today. If you’re free later, come over," Preston said.
"Okay."
Chloe hung up the phone and walked straight back inside. She reached out to support Walker’s arm and asked, "Shall we go to the hospital for a check-up later?"
Walker tilted his head slightly toward her, his tone flat. "Aren’t you busy?"
"No," Chloe replied.
"I’ll go if you come with me," he said.
Chloe shot him a look. So he wouldn’t go if she didn’t accompany him? She felt a wave of helpless resignation.
This time, Walker didn’t push her away. He let her guide him to a chair and sit him down. Fiona watched the two of them and let out a quiet sigh.
Afterward, the group went to the hospital together for his check-up.
The results came back quickly. The doctor held up the medical report and said, "There are indeed no physical issues left."
"Then why is he still blind?" Chloe asked in confusion.
"There is a special circumstance," the doctor explained. "It could be a psychological block preventing his eyes from recovering. He might be dealing with some underlying mental hurdle."
Chloe looked at Walker. She knew exactly what his mental hurdle was.
"What if we try psychological intervention?" Fiona asked. "Would that speed up the recovery?"
"It’s worth a try," the doctor replied.
Once they left the hospital and were seated in the car, Chloe asked, "Who was the doctor that did Noah’s psychological intervention before? Do you have their contact info?"
"I’m fine, and I don’t have any mental hurdles," Walker retorted. "The doctor was talking nonsense."
But Chloe countered, "Don’t you want your eyes to get better?"
