Chapter 1426: Chapter 766: Striking the Enemy a Thousand Miles Away, Routing Them Within a Hundred Steps (Part 2)
This is the equipment disparity, perhaps similar to how Barton felt when he encountered those Transcendent monsters back in the day.
Running so far, a few rounds of bombardment from over a hundred paces away made them collapse, truly deserving the phrase—
Strike the enemy a thousand miles, defeat them a hundred steps!
However, the footsteps of Hamlet’s Army have never stopped. When the mortar reaches the designated position and fires the first shot, the artillery outside halts, as the infantry advances to avoid friendly fire.
After losing the archer cover, it’s only a few hundred yards before they directly run over to intervene in the battlefield.
"Surrender and you won’t be killed!"
"Drop your weapons, everyone get down!"
Amidst the successive shouts, most of them voluntarily surrendered, but there were still some not frightened, clustering around those priests with an unusual excitement and fanaticism.
Church followers, and even one could say Fanatics.
Their faith is so steadfast that, in this chaotic scene, they neither fled nor surrendered, choosing instead to fight for the Holy Light.
"The power of Holy Light flows within me!"
"The Holy Light is watching over me!"
"Ah! That evil is worth fighting against!"
These people collided with the Hamlet infantry bearing down, shouting religious phrases, and charged forward.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
A line of gunfire, blood splattered, and those people fell directly to the ground.
The soldiers find it hard to understand these folks; even a rabbit knows to dodge when facing gunfire.
Moreover, if they were going to charge, they should have scattered, simultaneously supporting long-range cover, such as archer cover.
Who charges directly like this? It’s inexplicable...
The farm is not large to begin with; over a thousand infantry basically mash through, even if trying to leverage fortifications for a counterattack, firing two rounds from the mortar made them compliant.
Facing the charge of those church members at this moment, pulling the trigger directly, as the gunfire rings out, other squads come to assist, and after several rounds of gunfire, those zealots fell like grass.
The pain stung their nerves, clearing their fanatic gaze.
Only continuous wailing remained; the church members tried to cast Divine Arts to save lives, but the Hamlet soldiers didn’t care about their identity, including them in the gunfire anyway.
Finally, the guarding Full-armored Crusader Knights couldn’t withstand the dense gunfire and fell in the charge.
As for those priests, they were torn apart by the ruthless bullets, and even turned around to give them the coup de grace.
Because those folks eventually cast damaging Divine Arts and injured a few people, as for Transcendents, they habitually finish them with gunfire, targeting their heads.
The battle was one-sided, even church members couldn’t impede at all; instead, those Knights didn’t appear.
Of course, they’ve run away!
Sensing things spiraling out of control, they directly mounted fast horses, pulling close confidants to run at the last second, not out of kindness, but needing to leverage people to delay the chasing forces behind.
The musket range is only a hundred yards, escaping that distance with horses ensures safety.
Only they had just rushed out from another direction of the farm, not far they realized the enemy wasn’t chasing from behind, but in front.
Moreover, over a hundred cavalry, numbering half more than their side, seeming to be waiting.
"Surrender now; there’s no escape for you." Reynard rode forward, shouting.
Since the battle started, he led the cavalry to blockade the farm, ensuring not a single Messenger could escape, cutting off the news here.
Similarly, waiting for this last combat-ready force of the enemy.
Regarding Reynard’s words, the Knights didn’t consider at all, instead accelerating to charge forward, moreover coordinating among themselves to form a formation; charging by these dozens of Full-armored Knights is indeed intimidating.
Reynard shook his head upon seeing them, offering them surrender for the horses’ sake; who cares about a few convict Knights.
Now fighting, who knows how many horses will survive, it’s a pity...
Though thinking this, he directly turned his horse around.
But Reynard didn’t expect, for those Knights, surrendering means losing everything, to abandon noble life for civilian—they found more unbearable than death; they must fight with all.
At the farm, they fled due to those fortifications restricting the enemy similarly limiting their Knight capabilities, namely charging.
But in open spaces outside, how could they directly give up? Some cavalry with only partial armor dared block them?
Watch me charge...
Then they ran over to see those cavalry pulling rifles from their mounts.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
One volley, those some Knights within a hundred yards were directly shot off horses by whizzing bullets; incapacitated even if not lethal.
"Quickly! They only have one shot, don’t give them time to reload!"
Though ultimately few, the formation staggered but did not break; the rest charged directly, a hundred yards for full-speed galloping horses is a breath’s time.
"For Hamlet!" Reynard wielded his sword and shouted forward.
That volley certainly startled those Knights; watching those around fall one by one, fearing what the opponents might pull next.
Fortunately, the cavalry drew cold weapons, not sabers against unarmored targets, but long-handled Bone Maces clearly meant for knocking them off horses.
Reynard led the charge; his Legendary prowess totally incapable for those Knights to handle, let alone his Longsword cleaving through armor unhindered.
Wherever he passed, Knights fell one by one, others did not fare much better; after two volleys previously, quite a few fell, leaving the remaining to face three or four cavalry assaults.
More intimidating is these cavalry also pull stealth shots, approaching not to engage directly, but avoiding lances, at close quarters pulling out pistols a sudden shot; impossible to guard against.
Using close-range shooting on them!
After the chaotic gunfire, basically each received two or three shots; even with solid armor like suffering heavy blows in effect.
Those not downed by pistols faced cavalry roundups, swinging maces towards them; many Knights injured by gunfire, unable to control falling from horses.
Compared to previously engaging Bastia’s Knights, which ended tragically, now only a few slightly injured—a stark testament to team evolution in strength post-training.
Weapons are partly to blame; the unique "Three Strikes" tactics of Hamlet Cavalry.
Once within a hundred yards, open fire for initial weakening, then utilize flexible formations to approach and use pistols, emptying both pistols.
When troop count equalizes, once three shots fired, enemy barely capable resisting, taking stock: unarmored targeted by blades, armored with maces.
Just like now...
"Quick, capture those horses back."
Battle ends, Reynard shouts immediately—priority not treating Knights, but saving horses, managing some panicked ones back.
Some conscious Knights lying on the ground hearing this faint directly, I—a noble lesser than a horse?
But no one cares about them; noble status counts for nothing in Hamlet, doesn’t play here.
Infantry already secured and controlled the farm then pursued, meaning once those Knights fell, this battle concluded with Hamlet’s victory.
An unsurprising answer; logically followed by mundane finishing work; actually post farm capture Barton already orchestrating further actions.
Army left fewer than a hundred injured, plus logistics personnel handling affairs.
And he redirected some artillery team members to lay down firearms to take up rifles, joining the main force speeding towards the core town of the Baron’s Domain.
Why had Reynard earlier blocked news? To seize the opportunity while their main force diminished, concurrently breaching the town.
Neglecting logistics and artillery accelerated the troop, racing time heading to the town...
