Chapter 1432: Chapter 769: Incoming Attack_2

The Baron knew that man was deceiving him, but he couldn’t help fantasizing whether there would be... even the slightest hope if he hadn’t said those reckless words?

As for his son, he was even less able to hold on, feeling he wouldn’t have died if not for the old man’s loose tongue. Now he had nowhere to cry.

Lance was still kind-hearted. Seeing them in this state, he offered a comforting word.

"But don’t worry, your other family members will take a little while to be escorted back. I’ll make sure you get to see them all; after all, the whole family needs to be complete, right?"

Lance had no intention of wasting more time on them, leaving a remark behind as he was about to depart.

But the Baron completely broke down because the Lord didn’t even ask where those things were hidden, implying he had already found those family members sent away days ago.

Defeated, completely defeated...

"Oh, by the way, once those people are brought back, all the men will be castrated and sent to labor camps, the women sent to brothels. I, a commoner, want to see just how noble the nobility really is."

Lance wasn’t saying this to the Baron but to Grendel beside him.

Others didn’t know, but Grendel knew that the Baron had publicly denounced Lance as not a true noble, merely a commoner, questioning his heir status, thereby promoting his family’s long heritage and even daring to claim familial ties with the ancestors, fantasizing about touching that Hamlet’s inheritance.

Well, now it’s all gone, no matter how long the heritage.

From now on, the only possible descendants of this family would be sons of prostitutes whose fathers are unknown.

See now how petty our Lord is...

Grendel muttered to herself, though she hesitated before advising nonetheless.

"The intelligence reports the Baron’s two granddaughters are still young, should we...?"

"You’re still too kind." Lance sighed as he heard her, cutting her off.

Grendel was unable to continue speaking after Lance’s remark—wasn’t my question whether to first deflower some of the women before sending them to the brothel, and what does kindness have to do with anything?

But Lance didn’t like to vent anger at others, so he agreed, "Just leave that to you to screen. Ask some of the original servants if there’s any wrongdoing. If the character is vile, off to labor camps they go."

Lance continued walking, completely indifferent to their fates.

No innocents here, they’ve enjoyed the life the Baron provided, so they need to cough it up.

"I reckon it’d be better to just cut them all down." Boudica felt her head itch just listening, annoyed by such matters.

"You gonna build the roads if you kill them?" Lance raised his hand as if to strike, scaring Boudica into covering her head and not daring to retort.

Grendel lagged a step behind, watching their humorous interaction without saying anything—after all, the Lord is still kind-hearted.

But for the Baron, this was complete hell; his proud family would fall because of him.

Fear, regret, madness... complicated emotions tormented him, and if the ancestor were alive, such intense feelings would attract weird things.

No matter how much he struggled, begged, or cursed, nothing could make Lance’s departing figure pause for even a moment.

Lance had many things to handle, and no one cared for a loser...

In fact, the Baron’s Manor was livelier post-battle than before, being used by Lance to conduct affairs, including rounds of interrogation and judgments.

Due to pre-arranged information gathering, when the army entered the city, they could specifically capture all war criminals, while concurrently controlling local thugs, gang members, and the like.

Without removing these individuals, it would be impossible to resettle the refugees displaced by the Lord’s incendiary actions in the domain.

Honestly, interrogating those people didn’t require much effort since many were indifferent to their crimes, gang members even prided themselves on intimidating opponents.

No one had bothered with such matters before, then Lance took decisive action, bringing each case up for trial.

Lance relished this, watching once-prideful beasts reduced to fear and pleading.

Why do many relish keyboard politics? Boasting about any matter?

Because of the craving for power.

Just like earlier, Lance’s words trampled the erstwhile socially respected Baron, even his wailing seemed musical.

Now, as he harshly judged those criminals, with a word, those well-versed in Hamlet’s laws stepped forth.

The addictive sensation of wielding life and death was hard to resist, the taste of power must be savored!

Yet Lance wasn’t enamored with it; he focused more on directing, revisiting submitted dossiers, only drawn to particularly egregious ones.

And Lance wasn’t like the Baron needing to worry about anything; he dared investigate thoroughly, for constructing Hamlet required many hands.

Numerous victims responded to notices, coming forward with accusations, as Lance’s presence promised justice for many long-overdue cases.

Over the years, the Baron’s indifference left things unresolved, whereas Hamlet’s arrival did not bring pillaging but justice for them.

Thus, for these people—the Lord arrived, and heaven smiled upon them!

Coupled with the spread of dirt on nobility colluding with shady merchants, gangs, bureaucratic corruption, and Church decadence, public disgust for the Baron’s rule became irrepressible, even shaking some’s faith in the Church, nudging them toward Hamlet’s order.

Whether sincerity abounded, Lance didn’t care; nor how many still harbored illusions about the Church, even fervent worship of himself was immaterial.

For some matters progressed relentlessly, they could accept it or leave, mischief-makers might as well go build roads.

Only by smashing the old could acceptance of the new be taught, amid Hamlet’s hopeful dawn.

Lance anticipated a deluge of cases since similar scenarios arose during previous undertakings elsewhere, bringing in more personnel from home as a result.

No mention of training, dive right into practice for truth comes through doing; besides, there’s basic education, other skills learned through work.

Similarly, Lance aimed to improve Hamlet’s laws through numerous cases.

Feudal aristocracy’s fallen bureaucracy alerted Lance—the allure of power must be caged.

Lance engrossed himself in governance, seemingly indifferent to external happenings.

Yet others couldn’t sit still...

Though Hamlet’s Army advanced straightforwardly, it did fight several days, garnering notice from surrounding related nobles.

Even though they didn’t send troops directly, they kept dispatching people for more information.

The more they learned, the greater their terror; initially, they thought the Baron, even if defeated, would deplete Hamlet, yet combat saw instant collapse not lasting half a day.

The Knights were utterly destroyed and captured, the Baron didn’t escape...

These were unimportant; truly terrifying was what Lance orchestrated after seizing the city.

Previously heard of Hamlet’s unique system, they shared the Baron’s view branding Lance a Dictator, a freak.

But that was merely hearsay; when actions unfolded before them, panic spread.

Nobility, bureaucrats, clergy, and all factions underwent total purges, the once lofty individuals all became criminals, slaves, corpses.

Watching it happen to them hurt us like hell.

They had also encroached on Hamlet’s lands; if attacked, wouldn’t they be enslaved too?

No one accepted such treatment, even surrender didn’t enter considerations, their reactions turned fiercer than the Baron’s, bordering on madness.

Within a short span, they recklessly assembled a force of six thousand, launching an attack on the recently seized Baron’s Domain...
