Overlord: The Multiverse

Chapter 463: Morgan

"Here we go..." I muttered.

Luffy cracked his knuckles, excitement practically radiating from his goofy grin. Zoro, calm as ever, slid his three swords into place—one on each hip, one between his teeth. He looked more like a storm waiting to happen than a swordsman.

"About time I stretched," Zoro muttered, stepping forward.

The gates burst open.

A flood of marines charged in, shouting, guns raised, sabers gleaming.

Luffy launched himself forward like a cannonball. "Gomu-Gomu no Rocket!" he shouted, slingshotting into the first row of soldiers. Bodies flew like bowling pins.

Zoro didn’t need to say anything. He was already moving, a blur of steel and precision. In one sweeping motion, he knocked out four marines with the back of his sword, careful not to kill. He respected their courage, if not their judgment.

And me?

I sighed, turned away from the chaos, and casually stepped back inside the town. "You two seem to have things under control," I said to no one in particular, dusting off my cloak.

I entered Rika’s restaurant, which had somehow been left untouched by the commotion. I took a seat by the window and waved lazily at the waitress.

"Another beer, please," I said.

She stared wide-eyed at the battle outside, then at me, confused. "Aren’t you with them?"

I shrugged. "They’re enjoying themselves. Let them."

She hesitated but eventually brought me the drink.

I took a long sip and glanced out the window just as Luffy sent another marine flying into the air, arms flailing. Zoro was now in a full-on duel with a higher-ranked officer, parrying with one blade and disarming the poor soul with the other two.

That’s when the ground shook.

BOOM

The door slammed open so hard it cracked the hinges.

"I HEARD SOMEONE’S BEEN KNOCKING MY MEN AROUND!" a deep, grating voice bellowed.

I didn’t even turn my head. I calmly raised the mug to my lips.

Captain Morgan.

He marched in, face twisted in rage, massive steel axe-hand gleaming under the ceiling light. Behind him was his son, Helmeppo, looking bruised and furious but too cowardly to do anything but stand behind his father’s shadow.

"I SAID—who’s responsible?" Morgan roared, his gaze swinging wildly.

From the window, Zoro and Luffy paused mid-combat. Even the marines backed off a bit, giving Morgan a wide berth. His reputation preceded him.

Still seated, I raised a hand lazily. "Technically? That would be your own ego. But if you’re looking for someone specific... probably those two."

Morgan’s one eye twitched. "Who the hell are you?"

"Alex." I replied, setting down my mug. "And if you want to pick a fight, go ahead. But I just got comfortable."

Morgan snarled and turned toward the door, where Luffy had just landed beside Zoro, grinning like an idiot.

"You worms dare mock the authority of a Marine captain?!"

Zoro raised an eyebrow. "You call this ’authority’?" You run this base like a gang leader."

Morgan charged.

"Gomu-Gomu no Pistol!" Luffy’s arm shot forward like a bullet, slamming into Morgan’s face.

The captain flew back, crashing through the wooden beams of the restaurant porch. I sighed and reached for some peanuts.

"Keep it outside, boys," I called, popping a peanut into my mouth.

"What are you doing there? Come help us." Zoro said.

Zoro lunged next. His swords flashed, meeting Morgan’s axe in a shower of sparks. The force of the blow pushed them both back.

"Luffy!" Zoro called. "I’ll take the front. You get behind him!"

"Got it!" Luffy leapt, using a marine as a springboard.

Morgan roared, swinging his massive axe in a wide arc. Zoro blocked with two swords, planting his feet. The ground cracked beneath him.

Luffy came down with a spinning kick. "Gomu-Gomu no Stamp!"

Morgan stumbled.

Zoro grinned and unleashed a flurry of slashes. "Oni Giri!"

The three-sword attack landed cleanly. Morgan staggered, dropping to one knee.

Blood poured from a cut on his shoulder, and his metal arm sparked from a deep dent.

"You... brats... I’ll kill you!" he shouted, struggling to stand.

Helmeppo ran up to his father. "F-father, maybe we should—"

"SHUT UP!" Morgan barked, slapping his son aside.

"Gomu-Gomu no Battle Axe!"

Luffy flew up into the sky, spun mid-air, then came crashing down with both legs straight onto Morgan’s head.

The ground exploded from the impact. Dust clouded the air. When it cleared, Morgan was unconscious, face buried into the courtyard floor.

Silence.

Even the remaining marines didn’t move.

"Captain Morgan is down!" one shouted in disbelief.

A beat passed—then all the marines threw their weapons down.

"HURRAY!" cheers erupted from every direction.

Back inside, I finished my beer. "Good work, boys."

Zoro came in, wiping his blade clean. "That guy was tough. Not smart—but tough."

Luffy walked in behind him. "So? We’re officially pirates now, right?"

I chuckled. "You’ve made your declaration. Now you just need your ship."

Zoro sat down at the table. "Right. I’m starving."

Luffy raised a hand. "Meat! For everyone!"

I ordered another beer.

It seems like the berries I took won’t be enough for the rest of our trip.
