Chapter 853:The Will Of The Other World
Chapter 853: 853:The Will Of The Other World
The group took a rest near a beautiful mountain landscape with rivers flowing around it.
The mountains stretched into the distance, covered with green trees and patches of rocky land. A clear river passed between the mountains and flowed along the valley. The sound of flowing water mixed with the soft wind, creating a deep and refreshing atmosphere.
Ethan knocked on the carriage.
"My Lord, do you need something?" Maria asked, standing upright.
Ethan shook his head and spoke.
"You two have been cooped up here for so long. You should come out and enjoy the scenery."
Maria looked at Alvera, who gave her a deep look. The two then stepped out of the carriage.
The moment they came outside, a deep, refreshing and cooling scene hit them.
They looked toward the distance and saw the beautiful river passing by the mountains. The clear water reflected the sky as it moved between the rocks. The surrounding mountains were covered with trees, and the gentle sound of water flowing through the valley made the entire place feel peaceful.
Maria stood there for a moment, quietly taking in the scenery.
She had been sold to the Royal Palace since she was a child and had rarely been allowed to step outside. Most of her life had been spent inside the palace, where every movement was decided for her.
Seeing the scenery outside, her heart welled up with joy.
She took a slow breath and looked around with bright eyes.
Meanwhile, Alvera was quite composed as she was used to this kind of scene. Carrying out tasks and accompanying Her Majesty, what hadn’t she seen?
Still, even she couldn’t deny that the scenery was beautiful.
Ethan had already prepared a small firepit nearby. He sat beside it and handed two bowls of warm soup to them.
"Here, have some soup to warm yourself."
Maria and Alvera accepted the bowls.
The steam rising from the soup warmed their faces as they carefully took their first sip.
The moment Maria and Alvera tasted it, their eyes lit up.
The soup had bursts of sweet and savoury flavour, and the taste was much more enjoyable than they had expected.
Ethan looked at their expressions and smiled.
"Liked it?" Ethan asked with a smile.
"My Lord, who made this?" Maria asked curiously.
"It’s me." Ethan answered.
The two looked at him in shock.
"What? Didn’t expect that I can cook?" he teased them.
Maria was particularly shocked. As a maid, she knew how to cook, but such a simple dish containing bursts of flavour was beyond her expectations.
She took another sip and looked at the bowl in her hands.
"My Lord, this is really good."
Alvera also nodded slightly while continuing to drink the soup.
Ethan smiled.
"Once you reach Blanks, you will soon get to eat things that will feel like heaven."
His words lit up a fire of expectation in their hearts.
Such delicacies. Who wouldn’t want to try them?
Maria’s eyes became brighter as she imagined what kind of food she would get to eat after reaching Blanks.
Alvera also became slightly curious, even though she didn’t show it as openly as Maria.
Gu Cheng saw this from the side and shook his head.
’Daoist Ethan really knows how to handle lovely maidens.’
He quietly drank his own soup while watching the three of them talk beside the fire.
...
Aurelian sat at the center of the chamber as rays of radiant light spread all around the place. The dense rays of light bathed his body and filled the chamber with a warm glow. He sat quietly with his legs crossed and his hands clasped together in front of his chest. After waiting for a moment, he raised his head slightly and asked, "Holy Mother, what about the partition?"
A few days ago, Aurelian had asked the Goddess of Light what they should do about the broken and turbulent space. At that time, the Goddess of Light had told him that she would handle the matter herself. Aurelian had been waiting for further news ever since, and today, he finally received a call from the Goddess. Without wasting any time, he came down to the chamber and waited for her response.
A warm, lovely yet solemn voice echoed from outside. "We have encountered trouble."
"Trouble?" Aurelian asked in shock as he raised his head. His brows furrowed slightly as he looked toward the source of the voice. He had thought that the Goddess of Light would have already dealt with the matter, so hearing that they had encountered trouble came as a surprise.
"We tried to close the portal, but a power from the other side is restricting its closure. It seems the other side wants to keep it open."
"Who is it? Is it stronger?" Aurelian asked as his expression turned serious. He could understand that closing a portal between worlds would not be easy, but if someone on the other side was deliberately preventing them from closing it, then the situation was more complicated than he had expected.
"It’s the will of that world!"
Aurelian’s eyes narrowed when he heard this. He remained silent for a moment as he tried to understand what the Goddess meant.
"The will!"
"Unlike us, that world is governed by the Heavenly Might of the World Dao. But in our world, the world will broke down, giving birth to Gods like us, so he alone is strong enough to contend against all of us."
"But the will should be the first one to mend it."
"Because someone managed to fuse itself with the Heavenly Dao."
Aurelian’s eyes widened in shock. This was an unprecedented power. If someone had managed to fuse with the will of the world, their power might be extraordinarily strong. However, since the will of the world should be fair, such a fusion might also cause the world to develop biases and personal feelings.
Aurelian lowered his head slightly as he thought about the implications. If the will of the world had developed its own preferences, then it might no longer act in the best interests of the entire world. Instead, it could favour certain beings and interfere with the natural order. This would make the situation much more difficult to handle.
"So I called for everyone to unite and resist, however..." The Goddess of Light paused for a moment, and a sigh of helplessness echoed in her voice. "Many Gods didn’t agree."
Aurelian didn’t speak, but he was able to discern something from her words. Being a Pope, he already had some political acumen, and he understood that the situation was not as simple as it seemed.
Unlike the Goddess of Light and several other Gods who enjoyed the power of worship and the faith it brought them, many Gods had been unable to establish their own faith. As a result, they were envious of those who had managed to do so. They were unwilling to cooperate, even when the entire world was facing a threat.
"I even agreed to let go of the power of faith and share the power, but they didn’t want some meagre share. Rather, they planned to invade the other world."
Aurelian’s expression turned grim as he listened. He could understand why the Goddess of Light felt helpless. Even when she was willing to give up a portion of her power and share it with the other Gods, they were still not satisfied. Instead of working together to deal with the threat, they wanted to take advantage of the situation and invade another world.
"Then next!"
"Wait!" she spoke before Aurelian could continue. "I will keep trying to negotiate."
