Chapter 108: another day with mommy

She stayed the extra minute, then another, then sat up and decided the minutes were finished.

Evelyn swung a leg off the bed, felt the fresh leak from the gray-light round, and didn’t reach for anything to wipe it. She looked back at me, hair wrecked, mouth soft, eyes clearer than they had any right to be.

"Coffee first," she said. "Then the counter if the mood survives the kettle. It usually does. After that we leave the house for the milk because I am not drinking the last inch of the old stuff and calling it fine. Ordinary hour, clothes on, neighbor possible. Then we come back and you decide the first thing we do. Not me. I’m practicing the part where I don’t assign the day. Get up when you’re ready. I’ll be loud with the cups."

I got up. She was already in the kitchen, kettle muttering, bread cut into uneven slices, two cups waiting. She poured the second mine was in my hand and leaned on the counter naked, one hip cocked, watching the empty street through the window like it owed her a show. It didn’t deliver.

"Mood check," she said without turning. "Still there on my end. Yours?"

"Still there."

"Then put the cup down for a minute." She turned, hands on the edge, back arched, the leak from earlier shining on her inner thigh. "Slow. I want to keep tasting coffee between strokes if I can manage the coordination. Don’t rush me to the end. When you finish, inside. Then we actually get dressed. I’m serious about the milk. Low milk is how tyrants are born."

I set the cup on the counter and stepped in behind her. She was warm and slick, open from the night and the half-asleep round, and she let out a long breath as I pushed in to the root. I stayed deep a second. She pushed back, impatient with the pause. I moved slow. Long withdrawals, slower returns. She reached for her cup, managed two sips without spilling, then gave up and set it down so she could rub her clit properly. The wet sound stayed quiet. The kettle clicked off and neither of us cared. She came with her forehead on her arm, a low moan, pussy gripping in steady pulses. I kept the pace she had asked for until she lifted her head and said now. Then I drove in hard for the last few strokes and buried, coming in thick pulses, hands locked on her hips. She reached back and held me there while it finished. The leak started the moment I softened. She straightened, turned, kissed me once with coffee still on her tongue, and went to find clothes without wiping her legs.

We dressed like people. Jeans. Shirts. Shoes. The walk to the shop was bright and ordinary. She bought milk, the good bread again, soap, and an apple she claimed was for later and not for symbolism. On the way back our arms brushed. She didn’t grab my belt. At the front door she unlocked it, stepped inside, set the bag on the counter, and looked at me with her hands on her hips.

"Your decision," she said. "First thing. I’m not picking. Couch, bed, rug, counter again, mouth, bath, nothing at all. Say the word. I’ll do it. If I hate it I’ll tell you after, not before."

"Bed. You on top. Slow until you don’t want slow. Then we do actual nothing for a while. No immediate round three."

"Acceptable." She almost smiled. "Come on."

She led me to the bedroom, stripped without ceremony, and pushed me onto my back. Then she swung a leg over and sank down in one motion, both of us groaning at how easily she took me. She stayed seated, full, hands spread on my chest, and just breathed. Then she rolled her hips in a lazy grind, not a bounce, the drag of her clit against me deliberate. She leaned down, kissed me open and slow, still moving, then sat up and let the grind deepen. I held her thighs. She rubbed herself with two fingers and came, soft, fluttering around me, mouth open. She didn’t stop. The second one built faster. She braced and rode it out sharper, nails in my shoulders, then nodded, breathless.

"Inside. Then the nothing you asked for. I mean the nothing. I want to lie here with you still in me and not turn it into a project. We’ve gotten good at projects. Let’s be bad at them for an hour."

I thrust up into her, pulled her down, and came, pulsing deep while she ground through it. She collapsed forward onto my chest, breathing hard, sweat at her throat, and stayed joined. We lay like that. Her cheek over my heart. My hand moving slow on her back. The nothing held longer than I expected. She clenched sometimes, idle, not chasing anything. I didn’t chase either. The light moved on the wall. After a long stretch she lifted her head and looked at me.

"See?" she said. "Nothing works if we let it. Lunch when this gets hungry. Nap if it gets heavy. You’re in the bed. The door is closed because this is the house, not because we’re hiding. Don’t get up to check it. Don’t hand me the next decision unless you want something specific. I’m off the schedule. Stay off it with me."

The nothing got hungry. We pulled on enough clothes to not shock the bread and ate at the counter, new milk in the coffee, the apple cut in half and shared without comment. She talked about wanting a book that wasn’t a mystery. I said I would look. She said later, and meant it. After the cups were rinsed she took my hand, led me to the couch, and sank onto me again without asking if the nothing was over. She stayed still, full, and looked at the finished novel on the table.

"We can start another," she said. "Or this can be the whole activity. Move if you want. Or don’t. I’m fine. The point is you picked the bed earlier. This is me not picking now."

I moved. Slow thrusts up into her. She rode them lazy, hands on my shoulders, and came once with a small sound, then let me finish inside her when I got there. She stayed joined afterward, leak and all, and didn’t reach for anything to clean it. The afternoon did its slow crawl across the rug. Neither of us wrote a list. When the light started to thin she eased off, stood, and held out a hand.

"Bath," she said. "A real one. Hot. No sex unless it happens by accident, and even then we can stop. Then bed. Side. Sleep. If you wake up hard, you know what to do. The sentence still works if I get strange about any of it. I don’t feel strange. I feel like someone who bought milk, got fucked the way she asked, and then did nothing on purpose. That counts as a complete day. Don’t improve it."

We ran the bath. She sat between my legs, back to my chest, and let me wash her shoulders, her breasts, the tender skin between her thighs. She washed my arms, my chest, spent a moment on my cock that didn’t turn into more. When the water cooled she stood, dried off, and led me to the bed. She lay on her side, guided me in from behind, and we rocked in small motions until she came with a quiet sigh and I spilled inside her, less than the earlier rounds, enough. She pulled my arm over her, hand over mine on her breast, and was asleep before the leak had finished.

The house stayed empty. The new milk was in the fridge. The apple core was in the bin. Morning would bring coffee and the same open choice she had handed me, and she had already closed her eyes on the decision that this was sufficient.

She woke in the dark to the feel of me hard against her and didn’t pretend it was an accident.

Evelyn reached back, guided me in, and pushed her hips in a slow rhythm that said she was awake enough to want it and tired enough to keep it simple. No words at first. Just the wet sound and her hand covering mine on her breast, squeezing when the angle hit right. She came with a shudder and a small sound into the pillow. I followed, buried, pulsing into her while she clenched through it. Then she turned her head just enough to speak.

"That was the night’s invention," she said. "No more. Sleep. Morning is coffee and whatever you decide again. I’m still not assigning. If you want the counter, say counter. If you want nothing till noon, say that. I’ll do either. Now stop moving and let me actually rest. My knees remember the rug from yesterday even if we didn’t use it today."

She slept. I stayed inside her until I slipped free. The house made no demands. When the light returned she was already sitting up, sheet at her waist, looking at me like the decision was mine and she was only waiting to hear it.

"Well?" she said. "Coffee’s in five minutes whether you speak or not. The rest is yours. Don’t make me wait long enough to become the tyrant again. I fired her. Keep her fired."

I sat up. The sheet fell. She watched without hurrying me.

"Counter after coffee," I said. "Slow. Then the couch and nothing for as long as it lasts. Then you pick the evening. That’s the trade. I decide the start. You decide the end. Fair?"

"Fair," she said. "Get up. I’ll pour. Don’t linger in the bed being romantic. Romance is for after I’ve had caffeine and you’ve been inside me at least once in daylight. Priorities."

She stood, naked, leak shining, and walked to the kitchen ahead of me. The kettle went on. The bread waited. The day had its first decision made and no others crowding it. She looked back once from the counter, smiled the small smile that meant the tyrant was still fired, and turned to the cups like that was the whole of the plan. It was.

The coffee was ready by the time I reached her. She handed me the cup, hot, and didn’t speak until I had swallowed twice. Then she set hers down, turned, and put her hands on the counter exactly where they had been yesterday.

"Slow," she said again, though I already knew. "Daylight version. Then nothing. Then my choice tonight. Don’t improve the order. Just do the first part so the rest can happen."

I stepped in behind her. She was ready. The day moved the way she had allowed it to move, unscheduled past the next true thing, the door closed only because we lived there, the tyrant still fired, the milk new in the fridge, and her already pushing back onto me before the cup had cooled.
