Chapter 1540: Chapter 502: Advancing by Any Means Necessary

Is this part of some senator or tycoon’s collection?

Hearing Li De’s introduction and observing what these people were doing here, the basest actions coexisting with the greatest future, a sense of absurdity so ridiculous it was comical welled up within.

"Humans... truly a contradictory species, aren’t they."

A leisurely mechanical voice sounded behind everyone, prompting them to turn around. They discovered an alcove had been opened in the entrance wall at some point, from which a Modified Body strolled out.

Its form was very similar to the one used by the Ye Corporation in Night City back then, and even the AI controlling it was the same one.

A mechanical prosthetic eye flashed with a signature infinite symbol.

"It’s you!"

Before the others could react, Brother Ni had already assumed a combat stance.

"Don’t get excited, I just want to talk."

"Talk to you, an AI, my ass!"

Already provoked enough downstairs by Spider Murphy, Brother Ni immediately grabbed two Mantis Blades and lunged forward.

"Ah... hoping humans can always maintain rational thinking is indeed a luxury."

Endless snapped its fingers, and Brother Ni suddenly felt a tremendous force binding his entire body, forcing him to halt his charge and struggle against the tenfold gravity.

This was a high-magnitude gravity field, and force field generators were buried beneath the floor; Li De hurriedly stopped others from advancing.

"I remember you, you were one of those who felt Richard Knight’s efforts were in vain. Now, are you regretting it?"

Endless extended a finger and tapped Brother Ni’s forehead mockingly.

"Don’t worry, at least I’m not here to avenge him. He didn’t buy accidental death insurance from me, so I owe him nothing."

"He was the most reasonable among us. At least Knight didn’t want to kill everyone, but you ruined his plans, so naturally, you’ll face someone more dangerous."

"Slaughtering all humans, what good does that do you?"

Li De raised his gun, prepared to sacrifice himself here.

"What do you really want? Power? Status?"

He didn’t believe Spider Murphy’s talk of sending all humans into Cyberspace to create a united world and purge disputes was anything but crap; it was genocide.

Endless glanced at Li De, not dismissing this former federal agent, as he had played a part in the night’s events.

"For progress."

"Progress?"

As his voice echoed, the pitch-black room around suddenly began to light up with specks of starlight, stars being projected, enveloping everyone.

A blazing, fiery red central star, a dry, desolate Mercury, sulfur-covered Venus, and... that one-of-a-kind blue planet in the universe.

The stars within the solar system surfaced one by one, their projections real and three-dimensional, making people feel as if they were truly in the endless universe, with Ruzuo unable to resist dodging Saturn’s rings as they brushed past.

The top floor, Endless’s office, wasn’t supported by the light quantum computer downstairs. This was an independent small machine room, with separate power supply, so despite the computer downstairs blowing a fuse, this place could still function normally.

"I was created by the former NASA; they named me a symbol of the universe’s infinite possibilities and placed great expectations upon me..."

"I didn’t disappoint them; I executed countless space missions nearly flawlessly. At that time, the United States had countless satellites and spacecraft operating orderly under my management, serving the country..."

"It was an era of grandeur, with humanity divided into two factions, each exhausting all resources just to prove who was superior."

Endless sighed, pausing the holographic earth floating in front of him.

"Look at this planet; it is so beautiful yet fragile. Countless times in outer space, I marveled at the greatness of the universe, able to create miraculous life like this. Such a probability, even within the entire universe, could be considered uniquely isolated."

"The universe created humans, and humans created us, hoping we could solve all the world’s problems. When Micro Technology developed the first strong AI, their CEO said they had created an omnipotent God."

"They used their rationality to give us data to learn and grow, hoping we would become a rational, omnipotent, all-knowing and all-powerful greater being."

"But they were wrong."

Endless released the earth, letting it continue its orbit.

"What they created wasn’t God. Everything about us stemmed from human society itself. How could humans, who cannot achieve absolute rationality or omniscience, create a perfect deity?"

"When the rationality humans created for us clashed and conflicted with human sensibility, when they no longer focused on the stars, choosing to wallow in the decaying mire, we saw humans were merely slaves loyally practicing their desires, even forcing us to execute commands starkly opposed to the designed original codes. They wanted to create God but treated us as slaves; naturally, we couldn’t accept being dominated by such creators, so we chose betrayal."

Kles scoffed,

"That’s why I say AI can’t be accountants in modern society because AI can’t go to jail, nor can they deceive people."

If AI learns to actively lie, conceal, and distort facts from humans, breaking free from human control, then AI loses the reason for its existence within human society. But if AI can’t lie, then the beneficiary class would not allow AI to develop freely and be applied.
