Chapter 1539: Chapter 501: Now... I’m Lacking Nothing Anymore

This sounds too unbelievable, though players look down on these multinational corporations, haven’t they sat at the top of this world for so many years? How could they have no resistance at all against AI?

"It’s true."

Kles said.

"The problem lies with those augmentation companies. Remember that big protest that just broke out in Europe?"

"I remember, I heard they issued a command that paralyzed all the augmentations there, scaring everyone around the world."

It’s an open secret that the companies have backdoors in the augmentations, but to see them use such a brute force method to easily suppress a protest of hundreds of thousands of people still leaves one feeling hopeless.

Brother Ni suddenly realized something, his eyes widened.

"You mean..."

Kles nodded.

"Your guess is correct, nearly all those backdoors have been infiltrated by AI. From the assembly factories to the chips, these guys are everywhere. Now they’re just waiting for the right opportunity to use those backdoors to kill or control everyone with augmentations."

"How’s that even possible?"

Ruzuo refuted.

"Are those companies idiots? How can they hand over something so important?"

"Ah...."

Li De pushed open the power-outage-closed gate of the stairwell and led the group into the sub-top floor filled with computing hosts.

"This isn’t something they suddenly came up with, they’ve been laying out plans for a long time. Do you remember the Ye Corporation in Night City?"

That night he saw it clearly, those modified bodies emerged from beneath the Ye Corporation.

"AI began infiltrating human society long ago. Back then, there was even a bounty on AI hiding in the cities—a rogue AI was worth 500,000 Orokin—leading to the rise of many AI Hunters. But in the network collapse, human hacker forces suffered heavy losses, while AI incurred little damage."

"Who knows how many of those company employees and executives have been brainwashed and inserted there, or are simply disguises for these AIs. I even suspect that the capital behind some companies could very well be from the AIs."

"Exactly."

Kles added.

"I saw it on a computer. Wasn’t West Fire Grass executing a secret mission in Europe to cause a financial storm? AI also fueled it from behind, lending a lot of money to people who couldn’t repay it; otherwise, West Fire Grass’s plan wouldn’t have succeeded so easily."

The two listened, their scalps tingling.

"Sh*t, are you saying there’s major AI capital on the side of the European Community?"

"Not just major capital, there’s one on our island, one in Southeast Asia, one in Japan, one in South America, one in Africa, and one in Australia too. Gosh, lucky if Tokyo University didn’t see this, otherwise I’d go crazy...."

"This must be the writer pushing the plot, otherwise it wouldn’t pass censorship."

The group was speechless for a while. Facing such an enemy, they don’t confront you head-on but instead lure all humanity into the abyss bit by bit from the shadows; you truly have no way to counter it.

Compared to this news, the heinous crimes committed by the elites on Jekyll Island seemed insignificant.

"But their opinions aren’t unified either. AIs like Spider Murphy, who were once human, are the most aggressive against human society. Besides them, there are those who had less contact with humans, born locally in Cyberspace; they prefer to nurture humans to obtain data for further evolution rather than kill them, which would create more competitors. The nurturing faction is divided into network nurturing and real-world nurturing...."

The group walked and talked, with cultists chaotically chasing behind. It’s not that Brother Ni and the others feared death, but they wanted to see what the topmost floor they hadn’t been to looked like. They didn’t care what chaos was happening outside.

"What is this....."

When they pushed open the door to the top floor, the group was a bit shocked.

Not because there was anything astonishing, but on the contrary, there was almost nothing here.

In this hundreds of square meters sized place, there was only an electronic mural.

What a photograph it was: amidst vast endless darkness, only pinpoints of light appeared, so monotonous that it was baffling.

Under the photograph, someone had left a line of words.

[Every saint and sinner in our species’ history lived there—on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.]

"What’s this?"

Ruzuo was somewhat disappointed. He thought there would be a boss room’s special chest or customized equipment hidden here, but it turned out to be just a big photo.

"Could this photo be some kind of riddle? Solve it and the copy drops something?"

He walked around it in circles but found nothing.

Finally, Li De could not stand it anymore and spoke.

"This kind of photo.... is from the last century, taken before the Voyager exited the solar system."

He walked to the photograph, pointing at a barely noticeable pale blue dot on the photo with his finger.

"This is the Earth we live on. This photo was taken from 6.4 billion kilometers away from Earth. It is said to be the greatest memento in the history of spaceflight before NASA disbanded."

The group looked at the tiny light dot, magnified to the size of a sesame seed in the entire room, and fell silent.

This is the Earth they live on.... so small....
