Chapter 499: Pokemon master of tactics - 499
It wasn't long before Alex arrived back in front of the mayor's office.
The large building stood as imposing as ever, guarded and busy, with several trainers and staff members moving in and out after the end of the raid. Without wasting time, Alex stepped inside.
The familiar assembly hall greeted him.
Several trainers had already gathered, some standing, others sitting, quietly talking among themselves or simply waiting in silence. The atmosphere was calmer than before, but there was still a lingering tension in the air.
Alex's gaze swept across the room. Among the trainers he already knew, one figure immediately stood out.
Drake, a member of the Hoenn Elite Four.
He was sitting right in the middle, his posture relaxed but commanding. Even without doing anything, his presence alone was enough to make some trainer nervous.
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly for a brief moment before returning to his usual calm expression.
He thought, 'What's he doing here? Even if it's normal for Elite Four members to assist with red-level Pokémon raids, they almost never stay this long. So why is he still here?'
That alone told him that the situation had likely been more serious than it first appeared, or at least that the Alliance had treated it that way.
Without showing any particular reaction, Alex walked further into the hall and took a seat, once again choosing a position near the middle.
This time, he ended up sitting next to Drake.
Alex gave a small nod in greeting as he sat down.
Drake returned the nod, his gaze resting on Alex for a few seconds, before he looked away again without saying a word.
Alex didn't think much of the relatively cold reaction. To him, that was normal.
Trainers at that level were rarely ordinary in personality. In fact, he would say that most strong trainers had at least one or two traits that others might consider strange.
He leaned back slightly and waited as the remaining trainers entered the room one by one. It didn't take long.
Some looked visibly exhausted, while others already seemed relaxed, as if the battle had never truly put them under pressure. Quiet conversations filled the room, rising and falling in low tones, but no one spoke too loudly.
Eventually, Wattson entered the room last, accompanied by the mayor.
Wattson didn't wait for the few remaining trainers to arrive and began speaking right away, his voice carrying clearly through the hall. "First of all, I want to thank all of you. Without your help, this could've ended very differently. A lot of people would have been in serious danger, maybe worse."
His tone was warm, but there was a certain weight behind his words that made it clear he wasn't exaggerating. "What we dealt with today wasn't a normal Red level Pokémon raid. Some of those Pokémon were far stronger than what we usually see, and a few of you probably noticed that as well. but...You still held your positions, wven when things got difficult. That's not something everyone can do."
Alex, however, was slightly surprised for a different reason. The moment Wattson took the lead, he realized something was off.
Normally, Drake, as the highest-ranking Alliance member present, should have been the one addressing the group.
Alex's eyes shifted briefly toward Drake.
The Elite Four member sat calmly in his seat, his posture relaxed, his expression unchanged. There was no sign of impatience, no indication that he intended to interrupt or take over.
If anything, it looked like he had deliberately chosen to remain silent.
'Strange…' Alex thought, but he didn't dwell on it too much. If Drake allowed Wattson to speak, there was likely a reason for it.
Wattson continued after a short pause, a slight smile forming on his face. "I know most of you didn't have to be here. Only mid-level elite trainers or higher do not have these options. Most of you had a choice but you chose to stay and help anyway, and that's something the Alliance doesn't take lightly. The Alliance will make sure your efforts today are recognized properly."
Wattson then gestured toward the mayor. "Just head over to the Mayor, and he'll handle the details of your rewards. As for the late elite level trainers, please wait here."
The words were polite and friendly, but the intention behind them was clear. It was a dismissal. A subtle and friendly way to say "clear the room".
most trainers seemed to understand that immediately. Chairs shifted, footsteps echoed softly across the hall, and one by one, the trainers made their way toward the exit or over to the mayor.
Alex remained seated.
Within a few minutes, the once crowded hall had become noticeably quieter. Only a small group remained.
Drake, Alex, Wattson, and six other late-level elite trainers.
Wattson maintained a friendly expression as he said "This raid caused a significant number of deaths. And sooner or later, the media will start asking questions. If we don't give them clear answers, they'll come up with their own."
He let that sink in for a moment before adding, "It's better if we explain things proactively. That way, we can keep the situation under control and avoid unnecessary panic."
As he spoke, his gaze lingered on Alex a little longer than on the others.
"The words of someone who isn't a high-ranking Alliance member, but who defend one of the most difficult positions, would carry a lot of weight."
There was no pressure in his tone, but the intention was obvious.
Wattson then looked directly at Alex. "Alex, would you be willing to explain what happened to the media together with Drake and me? It would help reassure the public that the city is still safe."
Alex listened quietly. He had to admit, he was a little impressed.
Compared to his old world, where people in power often twisted situations for their own benefit, the high-ranking Alliance members here seemed… surprisingly straightforward. At least on the surface.
A relaxed smile appeared on his face. Alex replied calmly. "I've dealt with the media before, so that's not a problem, But I'd like to know exactly what happened first, so I don't say anything wrong."
He paused briefly, his gaze meeting Wattson's without hesitation. "I assume there's more to this raid than what i have seen."
