Pokemon: Master of tactics

Chapter 500: Pokemon master of tactics - 500

Wattson didn't hold anything back as he explained the situation to Alex.

He went through the events in detail, how the raid had escalated, how certain Pokémon had behaved far more aggressively than expected, and how parts of the defensive lines had nearly collapsed under the pressure.

He even mentioned the approximate number of casualties. Around 120 deaths.

Alex listened calmly, but when Wattson described the Flygon, he immediately understood what kind of Pokémon they were dealing with.

A mutated Pokémon…

He himself had only seen two Pokémon that could be considered mutated.

The Victreebel, which had only two Innate Talent moves despite having Gold potential, and Pikachu, which seemed to deal and take more damage than a normal Pikachu.

Because of that, Alex knew that mutated Pokémon weren't necessarily better than normal ones. The mutations could just as easily be harmful, like in the case of the Victreebel.

He had even read in a book that most mutated Pokémon tend to die earlier than normal Pokémon of the same species. It wasn't always the case, but it was common enough to be considered the norm.

With that knowledge, he immediately understood why the female Flygon was looking for an item that could extend the lifespan of a Dragon-type Pokémon.

The powerful mate she had mentioned was most likely the same Flygon Wattson was talking about.

Especially after hearing that this Pokémon had fought almost all of Drake's main team to a standstill, Alex realized that he had probably underestimated the Female Flygon mate's strength.

Even though Drake hadn't used two of his main Pokémon (Kingdra and Haxorus) it was still extremely impressive that this Flygon could match nearly his entire team in battle.

Wattson, who had finished the story, looked at Alex and said, "Now that you've heard this, what do you think we should do? I'd like to hear your suggestion."

Alex knew that his reputation as a "smart trainer" was probably the reason Wattson was asking him.

He thought for a moment before he said, "From what you've told me, this Pokémon seems very powerful, and it shouldn't be possible for a single Elite Four member to defeat it."

Alex smiled slightly before he continued, "I would even say that all four Elite Four members together couldn't do anything to this Pokémon."

Drake looked a little dissatisfied when he heard this and said, "That sounds wrong. How can you say that when my Pokémon team alone has a similar strength to this Pokémon? The other three aren't much weaker than me, so it shouldn't be a big problem to defeat this Pokémon."

Alex looked at Drake and replied seriously, "If you were talking about a fair fight, I'd agree with you, but you're forgetting something. This Pokémon's individual strength is so powerful that it's not only unaffected by anti-flee moves from much weaker Pokémon, but it also has the highest speed. Thanks to its speed and aerial mobility, it can flee at any time if it realizes it can't win the fight agaginst many mid-level Champion Pokemons"

Drake thought for a moment and understood that Alex was right. It really did seem very difficult to stop this Flygon if it was determined to flee.

Hoenn currently had no Champion and no trainer with a Pokémon at the late Champion level, making Drake the strongest Hoenn Alliance trainer and even he can not do that.

Therefore, Alex's problem was currently unsolvable without requesting help from other regions. Whether the Hoenn Alliance members would do this was something Alex couldn't influence, so he didn't comment on it.

Wattson looked at Drake, who remained silent, and then said, "Alex, you're not entirely wrong, but we can't tell the people that we're not doing anything against the Flygon, that killed so many people directly or indirectly because we're not strong enough. That would cause widespread panic and severely lower trust in the Alliance."

Alex understood and said, "That's true. But you don't seem to have quite grasped why I said that."

Wattson and Drake exchanged puzzled glances, both unable to understand what Alex was talking about.

Alex gave a helpless smile as he said, "My suggestion isn't to attack that Pokémon or tell the people the truth. It's better if we use another low-level Champion Pokémon as a scapegoat and show the media its corpse. That way, we can demonstrate the Alliance's immense power without risking the lives of several Elite Four Pokémon."

Drake looked dissatisfied as he said, "Although I abhor lies, I can't argue with logic, but that doesn't change one problem. What are we going to do if the Flygon attacks the city again? We have to do something."

Alex, who had anticipated such a question, quickly replied, "Drive it away from the desert where it lives. As long as you and another Elite Four member attack Flygon's territory—which, to our knowledge, is the northern desert—and put enough pressure on it, it will most likely be smart enough not to attack another human city after seeing how many powerful humans there are that could pose a threat to it."

He said this not only to show these two high-ranking Alliance members how helpful and useful he was, but also because he absolutely didn't want them to seek help from another region and try to capture or kill this Flygon.

Alex couldn't determine what the Hoenn Alliance, which Drake represents would ultimately do, but he had a feeling they would be reluctant to seek help from another region.

And without that help, Alex's suggestion was the best plan.

Drake, who had the authority to decide what the Hoenn Alliance should do, considered this for a moment and exchanged a glance with Wattson, who gave a small nod.

He then looked at Alex and said, "Alright, I agree. For now, we'll go with your plan. But I can only speak for myself and Wattson, so the other high-ranking Alliance members might want to change the plan later."

Alex nodded with a relaxed smile, as if it wasn't particularly important to him. Besides, he knew it was highly unlikely that the plan would be changed now that these two agreed.

That kind of thing usually only happens when a very big mistake has been made.
