Pokemon: Skybound
Chapter 691 - 691: 691. We Have to Leave Immediately!
"Dodge it quickly!"
Juan shouted at Kingdra, but the Pokémon was still dizzy. Even though it heard the command, there was no way it could regain control of its body in such a short time.
It had been slammed hard moments ago—its head spinning, its body refusing to respond. Even if it wanted to dive underwater or evade, it simply couldn't move properly.
And Dragonite wasn't about to give it any time to recover.
The Dragon Rage had already surged forward. The blue energy wave struck Kingdra in an instant.
Boom!
The moment the attack connected, a violent explosion erupted across the water's surface with Kingdra at the center. The shockwave spread outward and even collided with the two remaining waterspouts, accidentally neutralizing them.
After raging for several minutes, the Twisters were already weakening. The explosion shattered most of their remaining energy, leaving only faint gusts swirling weakly in the air.
At the same time, the water that had been lifted high into the air came crashing back into the pool, creating even larger waves.
Fortunately, the elevated platforms beneath the two Trainers protected them from being drenched.
If this had happened a minute earlier, Juan might have considered it good news.
But now…
When the light of Dragon Rage faded and Juan saw Kingdra floating unconscious on the water's surface, he frowned deeply.
This is bad…
What did it matter if the battlefield had calmed down? One of his Pokémon had already been defeated, and the situation was now even worse than before.
The excellent advantage he had at the start of the match had completely reversed.
The only consolation was that during the aerial clash earlier, neither Trainer had paid attention to what was happening underwater. Because of that, Walrein—thanks to its greater battle experience compared to Milotic—had managed to break free from Milotic's coils, deal it some damage, and resurface.
Just as Juan suspected, compared to Dragonite, this man's Milotic was clearly weaker.
But even so… it was already too late.
If Walrein had surfaced a little earlier, it might have coordinated with Kingdra to defeat Dragonite first, then deal with Milotic afterward.
Juan sighed internally. Regret was meaningless now.
For Kai, however, the situation was perfectly clear.
With the numbers advantage now two against one, there was no way he would lose.
Although Milotic had taken some damage, it wasn't serious. Under Kai's command, Dragonite and Milotic attacked Walrein from both the air and the water.
Walrein might not excel in any particular stat, but it was a well-balanced Pokémon with no obvious weaknesses. Juan's Walrein was clearly powerful—it even managed to jump onto a platform and defend itself against both attackers for quite some time.
But that was its limit.
It was already weaker than Dragonite, and now it had to face Milotic as well.
After barely blocking Dragonite's close-range Thunder Punch, Walrein prepared to retaliate—but just then, Milotic struck its back with Water Gun.
Attacked from both sides, Walrein had no chance to recover. Under the relentless assault, it quickly collapsed, following Kingdra into defeat.
Seeing both of Juan's Pokémon down, the elderly butler acting as referee announced:
"The first round goes to the challenger!"
In the audience, Misty couldn't help smiling slightly. However, she restrained her excitement and merely shot a provocative glance at the girl beside her—Lisia.
But to her surprise, Lisia showed no sign of disappointment over her mentor's defeat.
What's going on?
Her teacher just lost…
Misty's smile faded as she said casually,
"Looks like you were worrying for nothing. Kai's performance is as stable as always. The first round is clearly ours."
Lisia turned toward her.
But the moment Misty saw the look in Lisia's eyes, her heart skipped a beat.
That expression…
She had seen it before—on Flura from Shamouti Island in the Orange Archipelago, and on a young Trainer named Nana she met in the Johto region.
Alarm bells rang in her head.
Before Misty could say anything, Lisia suddenly exclaimed excitedly:
"He's amazing!!"
Misty's eyelid twitched. She immediately regretted bringing up the topic.
In fact, she wished Lisia would just stop talking.
But Lisia didn't notice Misty's increasingly uncomfortable expression. Her eyes sparkled as she continued enthusiastically:
"This is the first time I've seen someone defeat my mentor so easily! Even my uncle couldn't do that! Is this what a Champion-level Trainer is like? Especially those twin Twisters turning into waterspouts— I never knew battles could be fought like that! It's so creative… and so exciting!"
If Juan was the most frustrated person on the battlefield, then Misty was the most miserable person outside it.
"It's not that special," she said stiffly, trying to downplay Kai's impressive performance. "Many Trainers use creative strategies. One of my old travel companions fights in unusual ways every battle. When you see him, you'll understand what real unpredictability looks like."
Unfortunately, Lisia wasn't listening.
She rubbed her chin thoughtfully and murmured,
"Hmm… As expected from a two-region Champion. He really does feel different… And this gives me an idea! Maybe in my next performance, I could create a beautiful stage effect using twin Twisters too!"
It's over…
Misty rolled her eyes helplessly.
Just like Juan had great charm among older women, Kai had an irresistible appeal to many young girls—and clearly Lisia was starting to fall into that category.
This is bad.
Shaking her head firmly, Misty made a serious decision.
From now on, she would strictly guard against every beautiful girl they encountered during their journey.
And once the Gym challenge ended, she would immediately drag Kai away from here.
She absolutely couldn't let Lisia keep clinging to him.
Originally, Misty had been excited about the upcoming festival and even considered staying to watch it.
But now?
Lisia had become a serious threat.
This place was far too dangerous.
They couldn't stay any longer.
Leave. They had to leave immediately!
Back on the battlefield, Juan silently returned his defeated Pokémon.
The first round had gone far beyond his expectations.
There was no time to dwell on it—the second round was about to begin.
However, he couldn't help worrying.
What if Kai used Twister again and created those terrible waterspouts once more?
If that happened, what was the point of fighting?
He might as well surrender.
Yet asking Kai not to use that move was impossible. As a Gym Leader, his pride wouldn't allow it—especially not in front of Lisia.
Taking a deep breath, Juan waved his hand and released his next two Pokémon.
"If it's chaos you want," he thought,
"then I'll fight chaos with chaos."
Two flashes of blue light appeared.
Politoed and Whiscash emerged onto the battlefield.
Misty immediately sat up straight upon seeing Politoed. As a Trainer who also owned one, she was eager to see how Juan's Politoed compared to hers.
Kai, however, only glanced briefly at Politoed before focusing on Whiscash.
It was his first time encountering one in the real world.
The Pokémon resembled a large catfish with dark blue skin, a yellow belly, sponge-like lips, long yellow whiskers, and a "W" mark on its forehead. Though less than a meter tall, it looked somewhat goofy.
Whiscash were known for their strong territorial instincts. They built nests in swamp bottoms and claimed entire marshes as their territory. Using their whiskers to sense vibrations, they could detect prey and even cause violent tremors while attacking.
Because of their jumping behavior in groups, some people even mistook them as the cause of earthquakes.
Kai studied it carefully.
Even in the games, Whiscash wasn't a Pokémon he encountered often.
Hardly anyone used it.
He remembered it was Water/Ground type, but beyond that—even its Ability—he wasn't sure.
Looks like I'll have to figure it out during the battle…
He shook his head. Dragonite and Milotic returned to their positions, ready for the next round.
Before the referee could announce the start, Kai looked at Juan and smiled.
"Don't worry. In the second round, I won't create waterspouts again."
Juan blinked in surprise.
He didn't believe Kai would give up such an advantage willingly.
Still, the reassurance eased his nerves slightly.
Maybe… I misjudged him?
Maybe he's actually a good person?
However, the moment the battle began, that bit of goodwill vanished instantly.
Kai kept his promise—he didn't create waterspouts.
Instead, he created something else.
At the very start of the match, Milotic dived straight underwater and disappeared.
Juan initially thought it would launch an underwater attack.
But after waiting for some time without seeing Milotic resurface, he noticed the water in the center of the arena beginning to spin.
The current grew faster and faster.
Soon, a massive whirlpool formed.
Juan finally realized what Kai had done.
"So he didn't create waterspouts… he created a giant whirlpool instead!"
Was there really any difference?
One was above the water, the other below!
Even though Juan was furious, the battle had to continue.
This time he acted wisely—rather than targeting Dragonite first, he ordered Whiscash and Politoed to defeat Milotic together.
Their combined assault succeeded.
Once Milotic fainted, they turned their attention to Dragonite.
For a moment, it seemed the tide of battle might shift in Juan's favor.
But he had underestimated Dragonite.
Even while fighting two opponents alone, Dragonite refused to fall behind.
After a long stalemate, it suddenly surged forward—
And astonishingly defeated both Politoed and Whiscash in a single burst of power.
