Elias’s POV

I don’t know what my husband was talking to Kai about, but his tenderness after it makes me forget the Noah-is-absent anxiety that was eating me up. He makes me feel like my soul and my brain are taking flight and soaring off the ground. I’m having the feelings they described in those silly romance novels Mom enjoys.

This is love. I’m in love with my husband. I hold on to his hand solemnly. Noah looks at our conjoined hands and I feel even lighter.

We fit each other so well. Noah looks at my face, and his lips part to say something. Interested in what’s on his mind, I lean in.

"Elias...your hand is so small" he says randomly, and the floaty thing happening inside my head drops me to the floor with a hard thud. My hands are not small. My hands are the perfect size for a man like me.

"My hands are not small" I mumble and he purrs softly.

"It’s okay to have small hands. Small hands do big things too" he says and a look of horror takes over my face. I do not appreciate anything of mine being called small. My hands are big.

"I’m already hungry" the omega changes the topic and I catch a whiff of sadness in his scent.

"What’s wrong?" I ask, willing to go where he goes. Noah can drag me from the pinnacle of happiness down to the depth of sadness and I wouldn’t mind. What he wants is what he’d get.

"I want to be capable of protection" he says.

"You don’t need to be. My family and I will protect you" I say and he shakes his head. "I want to be able to protect others also. I want to be able to protect you, Kai, Seoha, Zane and our baby" he lists and I microanalyze every single person he just mentioned in my head. Seeking to protect me is understandable. Kai...questionable. Seoha, unreasonable. Zane, unacceptable. And our pup, yes, perfectly understandable.

"When we get home, we’ll work on something" I tell him quietly.

"Can I do like physical combat? I am pretty flexible" he suggests and I shake my head.

"You’re pregnant, Noah. No physical combat for you" I say and pat his hip. The omega grumbles his protest but eventually rests his head on my shoulder. I become weak when it comes to this omega and I am not ashamed. I kiss the side of his head and we finally find the kitchen. I suppose Taesan and his family casually eat in the kitchen.

There’s a little girl on a chair and when we walk in, her brown eyes go round. That must be Sooin, the pup Taesan called us to protect during our first meeting. Taesan needed someone to defeat his grandfather, a predator who kept using Sooin’s life like a chessboard piece. We didn’t meet the girl in our first meeting, but the love Taesan has for her is strong.

The girl looks at me, then at Noah, and then at her caretaker.

"Jisu Unnie, who are they?" the pup asks in Korean and my heart does something strange. It clenches. I didn’t care about her life before now, but I finally understand why Taesan was willing to sign his empire over to the Deus family. Fuck. I’d employ even the devil to keep my pup safe.

"Elias, she’s so cute. Is she Seoha’s daughter? She looks so much like him" Noah says quietly to me and I nod. My mate is sticking to my side so he doesn’t scare the pup.

"Hello, Sooin. I’m Elias and this is my mate, Noah" I say to her in Korean and she beams at me. Her smile is wide as she claps her little hands.

"Uncle can speak Korean!" she cheers and I laugh. She is so precious.

"Did you just laugh? What did she say? I’m so curious" Noah says, he’s almost bouncing on his feet with excitement.

"She’s happy I speak Korean" I say.

"I’m crazy jealous of you. I’ll make sure to learn too" he says and Sooin gets out of her chair. The little girl runs over to Noah and hugs him. We both freeze in surprise as she rubs her face into his stomach. Noah looks at me with shock. The happiness in his eyes is glaring as he stares into my eyes.

"I like this uncle. He’s pretty and he smells like strawberry milk!" the little girl says, and I translate for Noah.

"Aww, thank you sweetie. You’re the prettiest" Noah says while patting her head. He’s thrumming with happiness. My sun is trying to manage his excitement as he grins at the child. I want a daughter...I hope we get to have a daughter.

"Sooinah" Seoha’s soft voice calls as he walks into the kitchen with Kang Taesan behind him. Sooin runs to her male omega mother and tells him everything. She says she likes Noah and wants Noah to stay forever.

’You’re cute kid, but no. My husband is mine’ I respond in my head. It’s petty of me. Yes, I know.

"Dad, my hair is pretty, right?" Sooin asks Taesan who ruffles her hair. He looks...fatherly. I might consider hating him less.

"It’s time to leave for school" the lady called Jisu says and soon, Sooin leaves for school with Jisu. With Taesan, Seoha, Noah and I in the cooking space, I watch the couple with careful eyes. One wrong move and I’ll kill them both. One wrong step and I’ll put an end to the Kangs.

"Oh. Noah-ssi..." Seoha calls and peeks at Taesan like he just made a mistake.

"I know you speak English, baby" Taesan says and Seoha’s eyes go round. "How do you know?"

"Do you think I can really leave you alone?" Taesan asks in return and Noah scoffs

"Wow, another obsessed husband. Toxicity is the order of the day" my mate says under his breath without thinking and Taesan growls at him. And to protect my mate, I also growl at Taesan.

"Taesan-ah" Seoha says softly and the man instantly stops his threatening growls at my mate. Seoha, putting one hand on his waist, turns to my mate with a shy smile.

"Taesan says we can have our date. I have so many fun things I want to do" Seoha says and I scowl.

"We are coming with you omegas" I make my thoughts known and Noah turns his glare on me.

"No, you’re not" he says through clenched teeth. I already knew he wouldn’t like it, but he has no choice.

"Angel, you are both pregnant, both mated to men with mafia ties, and are both vulnerable" I explain but he still doesn’t like my point of view. He bumps my shoulder deliberately as he walks past me and takes a seat.

"Look, Elias. I swear you won’t end up dying if you don’t spend a single hour breathing my air" my husband says like he’s pleading with me, but there’s nothing he can say to change my mind. I’ve made up my mind. Every step of this so-called date, I will be there.

"I know I will die if I don’t breathe your air" I say and he sighs.

"No, you won’t" he shakes his head.

"I will" I insist.

"Ugh. You do you, I guess" he eventually mumbles before frowning like he just remembered something. "Hey, can I use your phone? I need to make a call" he says and I do. I hand my phone over to him. He can do whatever he likes as long as he comes back to me.
