Chapter 1709: A Legend’s Return
Chapter 1709: A Legend’s Return
"Sage, can you tell me more about the Law of Origin?" Sahir asked, seated at the edge of a cliff overlooking the vast world below. Seated beside him was the green-haired alchemist known for his good looks and intelligence.
Kevin Sage turned to Sahir and smiled. "Why do you want to know about the Law of Origin?" he asked.
"Because I want to be the first to create a 100-layered spell, and I think gaining some insight into it will help me greatly. I have already made some progress in the casting phase." Sahir replied, not hiding his ambition from Kevin Sage.
They were friends and, to some extent, brothers. Just as Kevin Sage had confided in him after he managed to comprehend some aspect of the Law of Origin, Sahir did the same, and as expected, Kevin Sage smiled.
"Why not? If you can comprehend the Law of Origin and become the first ice mage to touch the 100th Circle, wouldn’t that be a good thing?" Kevin Sage didn’t hesitate and transferred the knowledge he had acquired to his friend.
"I will not let you down, Sage," Sahir said, showing how grateful he was to Sage, who had just handed him something many would have gatekept for as long as they could.
---
A knight clad in white armor zoomed through thousands of ice demons, cutting them down as he went. Everywhere he passed, bodies fell. It was as if those closest to him had no choice but to die simply because he passed by.
The more he moved, the more ice demons came.
However, one could tell that warriors of different professions, shapes, sizes, and races were fighting to repel the millions, perhaps billions, of ice demons yet their efforts arent showing since there were just so many ice demons.
As the battle raged on, the man clad in white armor lifted his head and looked at the massive portal in the sky that kept spawning ice demons.
"I need to do something," the White Knight said to himself. Then he turned his gaze due east, where a blue-haired mage stood atop an ice dragon, moving about and casting one terrifying ice spell after another.
For a moment, the White Knight allowed himself to smile. Then his expression turned serious, and without any hesitation, he moved toward the ice mage.
A few minutes later, he stood a few meters away from him.
"Sahir, I think the only way we can win this is to close the gateway. However, it must be done from the inside."
"What are you trying to say, Sage?" Sahir asked, disregarding the fact that he had called Sage by his real name instead of his White Knight persona.
"I think you already know, Sahir. I need to enter the Ice Demon Realm and close the gate from there. I may never return, since closing it will take all of my power, but it must be done. So I guess this is goodbye."
Sahir paused mid-cast and locked eyes with Kevin Sage. "I guess this is goodbye then," he said with a smile, giving Sage a knowing look.
The two understood that sacrifices had to be made for the greater good. Knowing this, the moment Sage moved and entered the gateway, Sahir sighed and surveyed the battlefield.
A few minutes later, he appeared in a space occupied by over 20,000 Celestials and two Pseudo-Primordial Ice Demons. Knowing they were the greatest threat, Sahir sighed and closed his eyes.
"Ah, this is the end, I suppose." He grinned and commanded in an icy tone,
"ICE EMPEROR DESCENT!"
His staff moved, and for the first time ever, 100 spell circles appeared. Along with them, a majestic 20-kilometer-tall ice figure descended onto the battlefield.
"With ice as my conduit and this domain as my playground, I summon the Sword of External Damnation."
A giant sword materialized in the hands of the ice figure.
Then, with one sweeping slash, thousands of Celestials and even the two Pseudo-Primordials were killed, a feat that instantly changed the course of the battle.
However, with his soul and life force rapidly draining away, Sahir walked to a small stone and lay down.
In his final moments, he saw Kevin Sage smile back at him and ask, "So how does it feel to be one of the good guys?"
He smiled and weakly shook his head. Then he muttered under his breath, "Being one of the good guys is indeed terrible."
He closed his eyes, and everything turned dark.
---
Sahir snapped his eyes open, causing a terrifying chill to spread across the entire ice planet.
"This damn bastard."
Kent, who knew what was about to happen, had already made preparations. Cursing, he teleported and appeared 30 kilometers away from the planet.
"Damn it."
He had to retreat even farther because the moment he appeared outside the planet, another wave of ice qi surged from within, freezing the surrounding asteroids.
Kent pushed the Soul Map to its limit, moving as far as 1.2 million kilometers away before finally coming to a stop. Even from that distance, he could still sense the bone-chilling cold biting at his skin.
"Looks like he came back stronger than before," Kent said, a smile appearing on his face.
"Tower, is that Extreme-Rank Ice?" he asked.
[No, Master. Lord Sahir has stepped into the rank of Ultimate Ice. It seems the items used to restore his cultivation and other aspects were far more potent than we initially believed.]
"It seems so." Kent shook his head and sighed.
He was happy for Sahir, since this was something beneficial for both of them. With what was coming and what had already arrived, he would need every bit of help he could get.
Meanwhile, back on the Ice Planet, Sahir’s body hovered in the air, surrounded by fifteen crystallized blue shards. Each shard contained so much ice essence that if one were detonated, an entire planetary system would be frozen solid.
As they hovered around him, Sahir slowly absorbed their power, steadily increasing his strength.
His blue hair had grown longer, falling past his shoulders. He had also become more handsome, with his height increasing to 6’5", making him an inch taller than before.
He was clad in white robes decorated with red runes and adorned with various ornaments.
Beside him, the Grand Eternal Ice Staff hovered, releasing waves of ice essence.
Sahir had gone from an ordinary person to a Celestial. Aside from that, he had also become a Supreme Mage, meaning he could cast up to ninety-nine spell circles.
But if that wasn’t impressive enough, he had also awakened the Ice Emperor Body and the Genesis Ancient Ice Emperor Bloodline.
In his past life, the grade of his bloodline had been Supreme.
This time around, it was a Celestial-Grade Bloodline, and judging by the fact that his ice rank had also reached the Ultimate stage, he could already be counted among the ten greatest ice mages in the universe.
Slowly, Sahir opened his eyes and looked at his hands.
"I was supposed to be dead," he muttered.
He was about to scan his surroundings when memories from his current life flooded into his mind.
"So that’s was what happened, huh? Sage is here." He grinned and lifted his head, meeting the gaze of a very angry dragon.
"Interesting."
He took a single step and appeared before Kent, a wave of ice qi oozing from his body.
Perhaps if he had taken a moment to suppress his overflowing aura, he wouldn’t have done what happened when he arrived before Kent.
