Chapter 1713: Harem Missions (3)
"CLANG!"
A spear met Unity’s bow, forcing both of them to take several steps back.
Then she moved, and the sole of her boot slammed into the demigod’s face, pushing him back. However, as if he wasn’t humiliated enough, her other hand moved, and a slap landed across his face, sending his head snapping backward.
Unity wasted no time and unleashed an arrow at point-blank range, sending the demigod flying backward as an arrow burst through his chest.
With the demigod incapacitated, she locked her gaze onto Lord Vexor.
She had already severely injured three of the demigods, and now the fourth had been added to the list. So the moment she fixed her gaze on Lord Vexor, the poor bastard knew he was done for.
"Everlasting Beam."
Unity wasted no time and unleashed an arrow that streaked across the sky, locking onto Lord Vexor, who was trying to make a run for it.
Unfortunately for him, Unity never missed her targets.
Lord Vexor’s face turned pale as death finally came for him. He had expected today to go in his favor. He even fantasized about having these three beauties in his bed by tomorrow morning.
However, from the moment he was attacked, everything became clear to him—death had finally arrived at his doorstep.
The moment the golden arrow locked onto him, he felt as though fate itself had marked him for execution.
"Stop it! Stop that arrow!"
He roared and threw out dozens of defensive and life-saving artifacts.
Shields, barriers, talismans, and formations appeared one after another, creating layer upon layer of protection around him, shielding him from death—or at least, that was what he thought.
Unfortunately for him, the golden arrow didn’t slow down.
It pierced through the first barrier.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Every defensive measure exploded upon contact.
"BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!"
Lord Vexor turned pale, his body shuddering as though cold water had been poured on his pride. By the time the last life-saving treasure was destroyed, one of his legs had already given out.
The arrow arrived before him and was only inches away when a beam descended from the sky, blasting it away. However, the impact also sent Lord Vexor flying backward.
In his place stood a man who looked to be around fifty-five years old, clad in robes and holding a magic brush. At first glance, his posture, with his hands behind his back, resembled that of a monk.
However, his pink beard defeated the entire purpose of such an impression, and the fact that he wasn’t bald further proved he was no monk.
"Little one, how about we talk this over and see if we can arrive at a mutual agreement?" he said, a smile appearing on his face.
One kilometer away, Lord Vexor slowly rose to his feet, a smile forming on his otherwise pale and injured face.
Unity, ever perceptive, saw the smile and instantly knew this man wasn’t here for any noble cause. However, she decided to play along.
"Who are you, and what makes you think there can ever be a justification for colluding with the Soul Temple and engaging in slave trading?"
The expression on the man’s face didn’t change. However, the aura around him began to grow.
"My name is Lord Riven, and I am the guardian of this city. As for your accusations, I don’t know where you heard them from, but under my guardianship, none of what you said is true.
I would have found out if Vexor dared to collude with the Soul Temple," he said with a smile before adding,
"As for the slave trade, I can assure you that only criminals were sold. No innocent people were targeted."
"Is that so?" Unity asked, her expression surprisingly calm.
Seeing this, Riven thought she believed him, so he nodded and let out a fake laugh.
The next words Unity spoke, however, wiped the smile off his face and forced him to take a serious demeanor.
"I guess you have eyes, but you cannot see. Since that is the case, allow me to blind you for good."
RUMBLE!
Unity’s body erupted with golden lightning, arcs of crackling energy dancing across her skin.
With a single deadly step, she appeared right in front of Riven.
Before the so-called city guardian could create any distance between them, two beams shot from Unity’s eyes and landed directly on his own.
"AAARRGGGGHHHH!"
His screams filled the sky, traveling for miles, sending chills down the spines of everyone who heard him.
"There you go. Now I won’t blame you if you can’t see the rot right before your eyes."
Unity followed up with a slap across Riven’s face, sending him hurtling through the air.
"Now, give me your life, bastard."
Her hand moved, and ten arrows streaked through the sky, each finding its mark on Lord Vexor. The force pushed him backward, raising a massive cloud of dust.
When the dust finally settled, a scene that sent chills down the spines of the demigods, barely clinging to their lives, was revealed.
Lord Vexor had been skewered to the wall of his mansion.
Lightning arrows pinned his hands, legs, and neck firmly against the wall.
He didn’t even have time to cry out for help before he died.
Unity sighed and turned away from him, directing her gaze toward Dia.
Seeing that her sister had everything under control, she looked up and discovered that Lilian was also doing better than she had expected.
After making sure her two sisters were fine, she turned back toward the four demigods.
"Leaving you four alive would be like freeing four maniacs from their master and setting them loose upon the world. You are a danger to society, so I cannot let you go. However, I also don’t feel like killing you, so what should I do with the four of you?"
The four immediately dropped to their knees.
"Please, fairy, spare us, and we promise never to harm the innocent again."
"Yes, please! We will never dare hurt anyone ever again."
"Please spare us, and we promise to fight for the innocent from now on."
"Hmmm..."
Unity hummed as her thoughts shifted.
By nature, she wasn’t a killer.
She had lived for forty-three years in her incarnation as Artemis, and her entire incarnation as the Goddess of Love had been spent helping people find their happy endings.
While Neomi, the Mother of Killers, would have slaughtered these four demigods without a second thought, Unity was genuinely considering letting them go.
None of her sisters hated her for being soft.
In fact, they admired that part of her because she was the only one among them who could still see a trace of good even in the worst kind of people.
Perhaps that was why Vexthra, the Goddess of Hatred and Resentment, liked her more than the rest of their sisters.
"You are a good person, Unity. Never lose that."
A familiar voice suddenly echoed inside her mind.
Turning slightly, she saw Kent walking toward her.
Three warriors clad in bone-like armor hovered behind him, their bodies completely immobilized.
"Kent!" Unity called out, her face lit up with joy.
The moment he got close enough, she leaped into his arms, completely forgetting that she was in the process of deciding the fate of four demigods only moments ago.
Kent looked at her bright smile and couldn’t help but shake his head inwardly.
Perhaps if Artemis hadn’t died so young, she would have come to understand the true hardships of the vast universe and developed a far stronger mentality.
Then again, none of that really mattered.
As long as she was happy, everything was fine.
The four demigods felt their bodies stiffen when they met Kent’s gaze.
In that instant, they knew their deaths were inevitable.
They could sense it clearly.
Kent was the complete opposite of Unity.
