The two officers interrogated Ning Shu for a long time, bombarding her with questions in an attempt to wear her down. It was a classic interrogation by exhaustion.

Ning Shu stuck to her story: she had acted in self-defense.

Since she couldn’t tell the difference between reality and a dream, she couldn’t risk suicide, nor could she confess.

What if this really was the real world?

The interrogation room was oppressive. The lighting was dim, creating a sense of unease and anxiety.

Ning Shu kept pinching the back of her hand. The pain was vivid. She had pinched herself so much that her skin was turning blue.

Finally, the two officers looked at each other and had the guards take Ning Shu back to the detention center.

After being locked back in her iron cage, Ning Shu sat in a corner and closed her eyes. She forced her soul out of her body. When she encountered the bars of the cell, she compressed her soul until it was as flat as a sheet of paper, which allowed her to slip through.

Once she was out of the police station, Ning Shu looked up at the sky. A sun was hanging there. In her soul state, the sun looked like a massive ball of fire.

She tilted her head and watched the sky. Her soul began to drift upward, flying toward the sun. The closer she got, the more intense the heat became. It felt as if her soul might melt like a popsicle.

Since she was in a soul state, she began to absorb the heat. As she flew higher, she eventually hit something solid, like a sheet of glass.

She felt the world’s barrier. She wondered how she could break through it.

Ning Shu opened her hand and condensed her energy into fine needles. She fired them into the barrier. With a series of pops, the needles exploded, but they did nothing to the barrier.

This world was becoming more and more stable.

While Ning Shu was struggling against the barrier, her body was being carried out of the police station. Since there was no soul inside, the body was in a comatose state. They were rushing her to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Ning Shu watched expressionlessly as her body was loaded into an ambulance. If things got bad enough, she would just wander this world in her soul state to avoid being constantly terrorized.

It was actually better for that body to be in a coma. That way, the cycle of life and death might come to a standstill.

Ning Shu stepped onto the clouds and drifted.

Looking out, the entire city was beneath her. She saw skyscrapers and urban sprawl, but in the distance, everything was shrouded in a thick white mist.

This world was getting larger and more stable.

She suspected this wasn’t just a world of consciousness. A faint sense of joy rose in her heart. Perhaps this would be a positive turning point.

Ning Shu flew toward the horizon, toward the edge of the world. She wanted to see what lay at the very limit.

Her soulless body remained in a coma. Doctors were doing everything they could to resuscitate her. Although she had a heartbeat, she showed no signs of consciousness.

Treading on the clouds, Ning Shu reached the edge of the world where the white mist began. She gritted her teeth and plunged into the thick vapor.

There was nothing inside the mist. She couldn’t see a thing. The entire world was just a vast expanse of white.

Ning Shu reached out and pointed a finger, intending to gather the mist. Even though it was vapor, it was still a state of water.

She tried to compress the mist, but there was simply too much of it. Furthermore, there were no laws in this world, so using her powers was an exhausting ordeal.

Ning Shu kept walking. She walked for an unknown distance until she suspected she might never find her way back.

She felt a bit apprehensive, but going back wouldn’t achieve anything. She could only keep moving forward.

How much worse could things get? Could they be any worse than they already were?

She didn’t want to be a puppet anymore.

But what if her soul was trapped here forever?

Ning Shu walked on, tirelessly. The white mist churned where she stepped, parting to create a path for her.

When she grew tired, she sat down to rest and absorbed some of the mist. As she continued her journey, she noticed faint traces of purple gas mixed in with the white.

She reached out and caught a wisp of it. The purple gas was like a cluster of silk threads, writhing in her palm.

She didn’t know what it was, but she collected it whenever she found it. She had no idea how long she had been walking.

She felt like she was falling apart. She couldn’t go back, so her only choice was to keep moving. It was better than going back to the constant torture.

However, she soon realized that her soul was beginning to slowly dissipate. If this continued, she would eventually be swallowed by the mist.

She could only push forward. She hadn’t taken action before because she didn’t want her soul to leave her body and fail task mission, but now she realized that the physical shell might be fake anyway. It didn’t matter if she lost it.

As she walked, the mist began to thin. She saw a pool filled with growing lotuses. They swayed gently, emitting a faint, delicate fragrance.

What was this place?

Could it be the center of this world?

Ning Shu approached the pool. The water was crystal clear, and fish were swimming inside.

Lotuses, fish, and a beautiful pool.

She reached out and touched the water. It was condensed spiritual energy.

This was good stuff.

Ning Shu immediately sat by the pool and began to absorb the energy. Finally, there was spiritual energy in her internal core. She wondered if the lack of energy in the rest of the world was because it was all concentrated in this pool.

What kind of world was this, exactly?

After absorbing the internal core, she looked at the fish and the fragrant lotuses. She spoke to 2333. “Collect all of this.”

“It’s just some spiritual energy and a few lotuses,” 2333 said with a hum. “They aren’t worth much.”

“But they’re pretty,” Ning Shu said. It would be nice to have them in her system space. It would be a boost to her mood just looking at them.

“Do you know what kind of world this is?” she asked 2333. She watched as the spiritual energy and lotuses disappeared from the pool.

2333 had collected them.

“I don’t know,” 2333 said flatly.

Ning Shu: …

Well, she hadn’t really pinned her hopes on 2333 anyway.

She continued walking, hoping to find a way out of this world.

But as she walked, the ground began to shake violently, as if a volcano were about to erupt.

Everything went black. When she could see light again, she was staring at a stark white ceiling. The smell of disinfectant filled her nose.

She was in a hospital.

Ning Shu lifted her hand and looked at it. An IV needle was stuck in the back of her hand, and the area felt swollen and painful.

She pursed her lips.

What? I’m back again?

Are they really not going to stop until they’ve played me to death?

Ning Shu sat up and was about to pull the needle out when the door to the room opened. A man and a woman entered. Seeing Ning Shu, the woman began to wail. “Why did you kill someone? Why!?

“What is going to become of your life now? You’re going to be the death of your father and me!” Ning Shu’s mother cried out in despair. “We worked so hard to put you through university, and you go and do something so shameful. How are your father and I supposed to ever hold our heads up in front of the neighbors again?”
