This was such a godawful feeling. From start to finish, Song Mo had been nothing but trouble, constantly trying to kill her.

Step by step, he was severing every last thread of her hope.

In contrast to the earlier versions of Song Mo who had appeared as a savior, the current Song Mo was filled with murderous intent.

She was going to be trapped here forever.

Ning Shu didn’t know how many cycles she had endured by now. She had given up on trying to distinguish between what was real and what was virtual. Regardless, she couldn’t get out.

She was like a goldfish trapped in a bowl, swimming in circles but never finding an exit. She was forced to experience these events over and over until her soul finally reached its limit and disintegrated.

“She’s the murderer! I saw her push Song Mo out the window!” The dormitory door suddenly burst open. A female student pointed a finger at Ning Shu, who was sitting on the floor. Behind the student stood two police officers in uniform.

The officers approached and immediately handcuffed Ning Shu’s wrists. “You are under arrest on suspicion of intentional homicide.”

Ning Shu didn’t say a word, but her heart gave a sudden lurch. If this was real, then her entire life was ruined.

If the entrustor returned to this body, she would be facing a life behind bars.

Was it real? Was it fake? Was the fake real, or was the real fake?

The spatial-temporal disorientation made it impossible to know if her actions were actually happening or if they were just virtual.

Would she be punished, or would she just wake up and find everything was fine?

Ning Shu was led down the stairs of the dormitory. Song Mo’s body had already been taken away, but a large pool of blood remained on the ground. A chalk outline marked the spot where he had landed after plummeting from the upper floor.

Ning Shu had a splitting headache. She watched as people around her pointed and whispered. Even the school officials had arrived.

“She’s the one who killed her own boyfriend.”

“Song Mo was such a good guy. Why would she kill him?”

“I never would have pinned her for that type. I heard she was two-timing him.”

“She only pursued him in the beginning because his family is rich. Now that they’re together, she’s already looking for a way to climb higher. What a vain woman.”

“…”

Listening to the gossip from the girls in the crowd, Ning Shu wanted to yell. Excuse me? When did all this happen?

How was it that she was the only one who didn’t know about these ‘events’?

“This is a disgrace to the university,” one faculty leader said, shaking his head. He looked at Ning Shu. To see her so calm after committing a murder, without a hint of remorse, was truly chilling.

The people around her continued their hushed accusations.

Her three roommates rushed over. Seeing Ning Shu’s state, one of them pointed at her and said, “I told you to rein it in. Look what happened.”

Ning Shu’s face was a mask of confusion.

What exactly did I do that was so vain? How did I wrong Song Mo?

Could it be that she really was back in reality, and in reality, she had murdered her boyfriend?

Her head throbbed. The presence of the president of the university and the dean of the faculty made the world feel increasingly real.

Ning Shu was shoved into a police car, and the sirens wailed as they drove out of the campus.

She stared out the window. Everything looked incredibly real. The officers sitting beside her felt real too. They were taking her to the station for interrogation.

She pinched her thigh. It hurt like hell.

Ning Shu was at a loss. She was completely confused now.

The sirens continued to blare until they reached the police station. Ning Shu was promptly locked in a detention cell.

So, she was going to jail. There were several other inmates in the cell, all of them women.

Some looked hardened and vicious, while others seemed timid and shrank away into the corners.

Ning Shu stood in a corner of the cell, her mind filled with doubt. Was she actually back in reality?

Before, everything had been limited to the school, but now she was at a police station. This world…

She sat down and prepared to force her soul out of her body. Every time she performed this forced maneuver, it left her soul exhausted and caused physical damage to the body she was inhabiting.

But she had no choice. She had to determine whether she was in an illusion or reality.

Before her soul could leave, someone delivered a heavy kick to her side. Ning Shu nearly spat out a mouthful of blood. She opened her eyes to see several women surrounding her.

She stood up, her face expressionless. “What do you want?”

“You’re the new girl. This spot is mine,” a female inmate said, lifting her chin at Ning Shu. “What are you in for?”

“Murder,” Ning Shu said indifferently.

The inmate’s eyebrows shot up. “Who’d you kill?”

“I don’t know.”

Ning Shu stared directly at the woman, her gaze cold and detached. “Anything else?”

“This… this is my spot.”

Ning Shu simply walked away. A guard came over and unlocked the cell door. “Shi Mei, come out.”

Damn it. I was just about to leave my body.

She was handcuffed again and was led to an interrogation room. The officers waiting for her were a man and a woman.

“Name.”

“Shi Mei.”

“Age.”

“Age…” She didn’t actually know. She was a sophomore, so calculating based on the average age… “22.”

After the standard preliminary questions, the real interrogation began.

“Why did you kill Song Mo? What was your relationship? What was the grudge between you?”

“We were a couple,” Ning Shu said. “Song Mo tried to kill me. I acted in self-defense.”

“And why would Song Mo want to kill you?”

Ning Shu hesitated. How was she supposed to answer that? “He tried to kill me many times.”

The two officers exchanged a look and frowned. “We have the statements collected from the university. You and the deceased, Song Mo, were a couple. You were the one who pursued him, after which you entered a romantic relationship.

“According to your three roommates, the two of you argued frequently because you were two-timing him,” the officer added.

This dream was getting stranger and stranger. Why hadn’t she woken up yet? Did she have to die for this to end?

But if this was the real world and she tried to kill herself, she would actually be dead.

“Even if I were two-timing him, Song Mo was the one who tried to commit a crime of passion,” Ning Shu said. “It was an accident. He fell.”

“But witnesses saw you push the deceased out the window,” the officer countered. “And it wasn’t just one witness. Can you explain that?”

Ning Shu thought about it and decided to tell the truth. She explained that Song Mo had tried to kill her and she was only defending herself.

She maintained that she had not committed murder.

Every now and then, she pinched the back of her hand. The pain was sharp and consistent. It felt too real.

She was currently being interrogated as a criminal.

Was Song Mo really dead?

“We heard that you have a passion for designer brands. Many students, including your roommates, said the reason you pursued Song Mo was so he would buy you expensive things.”

‘Heaven only knew whether that was true,’ Ning Shu thought.

Now even her backstory had been established. The previous illusions had been crude and full of bugs, but now she had been assigned the persona of a vain social climber.
