"You should be a little more gentle with our guests, Nathan. They are not all as sturdy as we are. What if you accidentally kill them before we can interrogate them?"

Adrian chided his younger brother gently, and Nathan rolled his eyes at the ever-present scolding.

"Tsk, even you don’t believe those words, so stop scolding me about them. Now, what are we going to do with these people?"

Lyra pushed Elena away from her before she formed a protective barrier around them both.

She knew she had lost this round, but that did not mean she was going to allow them to die. Seeing the situation, she felt like she had no choice but to make full use of her powers.

The only reason she had not done that yet was because she was afraid of losing control of herself. There was no telling what she would do or become if she lost control of her senses. She was...afraid of herself.

But if it was for Kael, then she was willing to become a mindless beast that only slaughtered.

Her transformation began in a second, and her opponents sensed her new power as well. And these two were not stupid enough to miss what was happening to her.

"Brother, this is-"

"Something troublesome. Looks like a wildcat somehow slipped past our notice. Since this can get dangerous, I will allow you to use excessive force if necessary. There is no longer any need to keep our opponents alive."

Lyra’s heart skipped a beat in fear after hearing those words, but that feeling was being overshadowed by her massive appetite. Her transformed self wanted to eat and destroy.

Now, she would show these humans what it meant to go against the Demon Queen.

Kael could sense that something was going on outside the barrier, but he could also sense his family’s auras nearby, which made him reluctant to check out what was happening.

He was about to try and find another exit when he sensed Leon’s aura and decided to follow it until he reached the barrier.

It did not take him long to notice Leon, but he was not alone. Emma was with him, and she allowed Leon to walk past their family barrier so that he could talk to Kael.

"What are you doing here?"

Those words escaped Kael’s mouth before anyone else could speak, but the air did not turn tense as he expected.

Instead, Leon answered him as calmly as he could.

"I came here because the others decided to storm this place in search of you. And before you get angry, just know that it was not my idea to come here. The others forced me to come with them without leaving me any choice. I just tagged along in order to save their lives."

Leon sounded serious, almost as if he was pleading with Kael not to hold it against him. And Kael understood Leon’s predicament.

After all, even he knew how stubborn the others in their group were. Their stubbornness had caused this world’s end before.

"Don’t worry. I am not mad or angry at you or the others."

Kael reassured him, and Leon let out a relieved sigh.

"Then, that means-"

"However, I cannot head home for now. Please tell everyone that I will stay here for about 1 year and 8 months before I can return. I have some things to settle here."

And the mood immediately dropped at his words.

Leon looked like he had swallowed a lemon as he stared at Kael. Kael was almost afraid that Leon was going to knock him out and drag him away.

Thankfully, none of that happened, and Leon took a deep breath before deciding that he was going to honor Kael’s request.

"Alright, I got it. I am sure you already know what you are doing. Since you asked to stay back, I will respect your decision and return."

Leon was a good kid who listened to him. Kael was suddenly glad that he was the one who had found him.

If it had been Seraphina...

He wanted to say that she would have listened as well, but he could already imagine her clutching his legs and begging him not to abandon her.

Kael was thankful he did not have to deal with that headache.

"Alright, kid, time’s up. I need to get my younger brother back to bed. Meanwhile, you should start heading back as well. I am sure you have people waiting for you outside, right?"

Leon was standing in front of Kael one second, and the next he was grabbed from behind as Emma dragged him away.

"Kael, get back to bed. We can talk about what you just said later. Don’t think you will be running away just because you are sick."

Emma threatened, but Kael had a feeling she would forget all about him once she came back.

This was the perfect moment to run away from home. But Kael could not run away in his current condition. So he did the only thing that made sense to him—he went back to his room.

__________

"Brother, this is getting bad. Should I neutralize her before she becomes a bigger problem?"

Nathan’s cold eyes looked at Lyra’s transforming body. His sword gleamed, ready to take down the monster before it could become a greater threat. But he did not want to show off his power without Adrian’s permission.

His brother usually had his own plans, and Nathan did not want extra training added to his roster.

However, Adrian looked just as serious as he was at the moment. His cold eyes stared at the monster in front of him with reluctant indifference.

"It seems like we have no choice. I would like to avoid bloodshed wherever possible. But this time, the enemy seems determined to leave us no choice but to act."

Lyra attacked them with her half-transformed body, and Nathan intercepted the attack. But the force behind Lyra’s strike was far greater than he had anticipated, and he was pushed back into the barrier.

"Oh dear! It seems like you are a bigger problem than I expected. I will take care of you myself."

Adrian stepped forward, and for the first time, he looked serious about facing an opponent.
