Chapter 199: Ch 198: Sister, what do I do?

"Sister, what did I do?"

Selene asked in a worried voice. She could recall taking her sword out, pointing it at someone, and attacking them.

But the fact that she was still here and not being interrogated meant that she had been unsuccessful in her attack, and that filled her with a sense of rage and annoyance. Her instincts told her to get up and finish what she had started.

Selene had no idea what she had started in the first place, so how could she finish it?

Kana bit her lip, and her voice was calm but gentle when she spoke to Selene.

"There is no need for you to worry about unnecessary things, Selene. You acted under the influence of your blood, and it is not your fault. There is no need to feel bad about it."

Kana assured Selene while wrapping her arms around Selene’s head and pulling it against her chest. She wanted to reassure her younger sister that everything was alright.

But Selene did not feel the same. She could sense the rage inside her, wanting to tear something apart. And her feelings scared her.

It was as if she was becoming something she was not under its influence.

"Sister-"

"Shh, I know that you are scared of the high-blood’s influence. It is telling you to do something you don’t want to. But there is no need to resist it. It wants what is best for you, so allow it to take over your senses."

There seemed to be something wrong with Kana. Her gentle sister would never say that to her. Kana was not that kind of person.

But Selene also felt comforted hearing Kana say these words. It made her feel like her rage was justified.

"My dear Selene, remember! We are the descendants of the high elves, and our blood is sacred. If it is trying to tell you something, then it must be important."

Her sister’s words made sense. Selene knew that they made sense, but she still could not help feeling as if she should not be listening to them.

"But I-"

"I know. We know of your insecurities and what you are worried about. But there is no need to worry. Everything will be just fine. You were never in the wrong, and there is no need to doubt your decision. Kael is the one at fault here."

The sudden mention of Kael’s name made Selene pause.

She had never said anything about Kael, and at first, she did not understand why her subconscious had brought up his name. But then she recalled what had happened.

Selene remembered attacking Kael and speaking harshly to him. And everyone had tried to stop her.

Why did everyone try to stop her when all she wanted to do was help? This was not fair! It was not Selene’s fault that they were all cozying up to a danger-!

"That’s right. None of this is our fault. We are just trying to help. Kael is the true danger. He will become the calamity that swallows this world. So we need to make sure we end his life before that."

"Sister, what are you saying? That man has not done anything wrong-"

"Selene, kill that man before he charms you and makes you useless. Emotions are a luxury that we high elves are not supposed to have. So go and fulfill your destiny. Fulfill it before you fall for him as well."

Kana’s words started to become twisted. Selene wanted to hear more, but the voice of her elder sister started to fade from around her.

"Elder Sister? Kana...? Where are you? Come back-"

She tried to move toward that familiar presence, but it was gone. Instead, a startling coldness started to grip her mind and heart.

"Kill Kael!"

"Kill that anomaly!"

"This world will end if you do not!"

"My dear savior, it is all in your hands now. Make sure you finish what you started."

The voices whispered in her ears, and Selene felt like her head was being split open. None of the thoughts she was having were her own. And yet, they felt like her own at the same time.

Her desire to kill Kael was rising, and with it, her authority as well.

When she finally woke up, that desire was wrapped around her, but she had enough control over it to hide it behind a smile.

Her eyes sought out Kael at the back of the room, and her hands twitched with the urge to grab his neck and snap it.

But she could not act on those desires. At least, not while everyone was around her.

It was time for Selene to act and make Kael lower his guard. And once he trusted her, Selene would dispose of him in a way no one would ever see coming.

And this one could potentially kill him.
