"I-I don’t know..."

Kana looked distraught by what had just happened, and no one dared to approach her or say anything. They were all afraid that Selene would make them her next target.

But Selene had no presence of mind for anyone other than Kael. Her only goal here seemed to be to make sure she ended Kael’s life.

"Now, do you have any last words?"

Selene asked before she suddenly turned to her side and defended against an attack. Her sword met Adrian’s before she was immediately pushed back into a wall.

Crash

The attack was so powerful that it made Selene cough up blood. But she did not seem to mind and was back on her feet seconds later.

"Are you going to be my next opponent?"

She asked, aiming her sword at Adrian, and he sighed as he stood ready.

"As much as I want to have an honest match with you, I don’t like the fact that you are harming my family. So I am sorry, miss. But I will have to take some preventive measures against you before you cause any more harm. And I don’t mind playing dirty because of it."

That was all the warning Adrian gave before he tightened his hold over the barrier.

The sudden force of the barrier pressing down on Selene made her feel light-headed, and she almost lost consciousness before she held strong and pushed herself back to her feet.

"I won’t...give up...for the sake of...this world...that guy...will destroy...this world..."

Whatever was controlling Selene was strong, and it refused to lose its hold. But luckily, Kana wrapped her arms around Selene’s middle and started to hum.

Her song immediately made Selene’s body relax, and she closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief as they watched Selene’s body slump beside her sister in a peaceful sleep.

The blissful silence did not last long. Nathan was the first one to break it.

"Darn it! So, can anyone explain what just happened? I felt like things went from 0 to 100 really fast."

Kana looked like she did not want to explain what had happened. But she had no choice since everyone was looking at her for an explanation.

"My sister...is the successor of the high-elf bloodline. Sometimes that blood likes to gain control of her and make her do things she would never do. I don’t exactly know what happened this time, but Selene’s instincts must have marked Sir Kael as someone dangerous. So she attacked him."

Silence fell after Kana’s explanation, but no one chose to say a word after Nathan scoffed at her.

"Are you telling me that your sister thought Kael was someone dangerous? He is the weakest person in this room, and she went after him because he was ’dangerous’? She needs to get her senses checked after this."

Nathan’s words were rude, and he would have usually gotten scolded for them. But no one dared to utter a single word at the moment. They were all too busy worrying about the situation.

They could all sit there and make excuses, but they could not come to any concrete conclusions until Selene woke up and decided to tell them what had happened.

Sigh

"For now, please take Selene to the guest room and secure her. We cannot be sure how she will react when she wakes up. If she attacks Kael or anyone else again, we need to make sure she is as secure as possible."

Adrian told Kana, and the elf looked ready to protest that her sister was not dangerous. But one look around made her change her mind, and she bit her lip in agitation.

In the end, she had no choice but to take a step back and agree to these terms.

"Alright, I will secure my sister and make sure she does not hurt anyone else. But please, don’t think of her as a bad person. She is...just under a lot of stress, and it caused her to behave this way. She would never do something like this otherwise."

Kana tried to defend her sister, and Adrian nodded to show that he understood.

Finally, silence returned to the breakfast table, and Kael felt like he had lost another opportunity to tell his family he was leaving.

"Woah! This situation looks like a mess. I don’t envy you, elder brother. Good luck resolving this situation soon."

Nathan patted Adrian on the back before he left the room, and Emma followed. Kael also gave his brother one last look before he left.

Adrian looked stressed, and ultimately, he decided that it was time to talk to Selene. They needed to clear the air before things could proceed.

...

’Where am I...Where is this...?’

Selene opened her eyes, and the bright light from the window threatened to blind her. She raised a hand above her eyes to shield them and immediately noticed her elder sister’s silhouette sitting beside her.

’What happened? The last thing I recall is that dining table and my growing frustration. I am sure I looked at something...and then what? What happened after that? I cannot recall properly...’

Selene’s head hurt, and she let out a groan of pain. She tried to sit up, but her body ached.

This feeling was not one she experienced often, but she could immediately tell that it was because of her ancient high-elf blood.

"Selene, you are finally awake? No, don’t get up. Stay down for now or you might hurt yourself. How are you feeling now? Does anything else hurt besides your head?"

Kana fired off one question after another, not even giving Selene time to breathe or think about her answers.

Selene let out a curse as she pushed herself up to sit. But it hurt too much, and her vision went blank for a few seconds.

When her vision returned, her sister was holding her hand and looking at her with a truly worried expression that made Selene feel like a bad person.

Not only had she worried her sister, but she did not even remember what had happened. Why was her head pounding even after using her powers?
