Chapter 290: Ch 289: It’s all Over

The World Magic was still hesitating to hurt Kael, which made him chuckle.

It was a delicate thing that told him that he had a choice, but it would destroy this world. In the end, it was not much of a choice. Kael’s hand was being forced to make this decision.

"It’s fine. I know what I am doing, and that is fine. It’s time to put an end to this."

Kael told the World Magic as it shone brighter.

[Affirmative. Please select the incident you would like to change.]

The World Magic asked, and there were a lot of incidents that Kael wanted to change in his life. But there was only one that felt impactful enough to stop the destruction of this world.

"Please erase the existence of my soul from this world’s history. From now all the way back. Make sure no one remembers me and what happened."

After all, Goddess Aria started this crusade because she wanted to see Kael alive and happy. So if he was not there, there was no need for her to go so far as to curse this world anymore.

She would finally be freed from the chains that held her.

Moreover, since she wouldn’t have a reason to destroy this world, she wouldn’t need to torment his kids.

There was a chance that his kids would never exist because of this, but Kael wanted to believe that it wouldn’t happen. Their personalities were too bright for them to remain a part of Goddess Aria.

The system told Kael, and he let out a sigh. But it did not last long because his barrier was broken by Goddess Aria. Her hand reached inside the barrier and grabbed Kael’s shoulder desperately.

"You! Did you think I would let you go just like that? There is nowhere for you to be able to run, so you will come with me."

The goddess told Kael with a fierce expression. He could make out Seraphina and Iris’s forms behind her as they were being stopped by Leon. He could also sense Lyra and Elena there, which made his heart skip a beat in longing.

These people were special to him, and he wanted to stay with them longer. But unfortunately, his presence was going to become a poison for them. So it would be for the best if he left.

"You-"

"I am sorry, but you are far too obsessed with me. Not that I have a problem with it. But I am afraid that I cannot allow this world to suffer because of this. Now, it’s time for both of us to rest."

Kael told the goddess as his presence started to fade away. The World Magic was taking its price from Kael, but he had no regret for what he did.

But the goddess gritted her teeth, unwilling to accept what he was doing. Her magic and corruption mixed with the World Magic, and Kael felt the very foundation around him shaking.

"Did you think you would run away from me just like that? I am not letting you get away, ever! If you want this to end, then this will end in my embrace-"

Kael reached out to touch the goddess’s face lightly, and that startled her. She blinked, trying to get herself under control after what happened, and Kael spoke to her softly.

"I am sure you are worried, my dear goddess. But this is something I chose for myself. So please, trust in my judgment and forget about me. I am sure you will be happier this way."

Kael told her, and the goddess was so taken aback by this that she was not able to move an inch.

Just then, the World Magic finally grabbed hold of him, and he disappeared.

He saw and felt his memories being stripped away from this world, as well as from the goddess and his kids. The last thing he saw of that world was Goddess Aria’s betrayed expression, as well as Leon’s knowing glance.

And then, he was being suspended in space, with no destination in sight. Kael was like a piece of paper in the wind, without any destination.

"I wonder how long I will have to wander this space before I lose my mind?"

Kael questioned, feeling as if time and space were being stripped away from him. But since he had chosen this life himself, he had no one else to blame but himself.

And now, it was a waiting game to see when his magic would run out...or if it would even run out.

But at least Kael had saved everyone...right?

Kael tried his best not to get depressed. He simply floated in the darkness, not knowing how long it had been or what he was even thinking about.

As a Grand Magician, both sleep and hunger had lost their meaning long ago to him. And now, even entertainment was losing its hold.

Soon, he wouldn’t even be able to remain sane, and then it would result in a mental breakdown of sorts.

"At least I won’t be able to destroy everything."

Kael spoke more for the sake of hearing something than because he actually wanted to speak.

His lonesome self floated around in the middle of space for so long that he eventually forgot what he was even doing there. And for the first time, the thought of returning home entered his mind.

But home...where was home? And how could he get to it?

Just when he was thinking about all this, he felt a strong pull grabbing hold of him and tugging him toward it. He followed it, not knowing where he was being led.

And after what felt like an eternity, Kael opened his eyes. But it was not the world he recalled.

Or rather, it was not the world he recalled dying in.

"Doctor, the patient is awake, and he seems to be looking at us. W-We need to inform the others. What about his family? Does he have any? What about his friends? Or the person who brought him here? We need to get started on post-recovery-"

"Calm down, nurse. He has barely opened his eyes. Let’s not overwhelm him too much."

Kael took a sigh and tried to relax. But honestly, he had no idea what was happening here.

Kael tried to move his body, but the moment he did, a sharp pain spread through his limbs and forced him to stop.

His muscles felt weak and foreign, almost as if he had not used them properly in years, and the sensation made him wonder whether the world magic had done more to him than simply erase his existence from history.

"Easy, sir. Please don’t try to move too much. You have only just regained consciousness."

The nurse immediately stepped forward when she noticed his reaction, and Kael stared at her with confusion as he tried to understand what was happening around him.

She looked completely normal, just like the doctor standing beside her, and there was no trace of magic or corruption anywhere in the room.

It was strange.

After spending so long surrounded by magic, he had almost forgotten what a world without it felt like.

"Where...am I?"

His voice came out hoarse, and the nurse quickly handed him a glass of water before answering.

"You are in a hospital. You were brought here after being found unconscious, and we have been monitoring you ever since. Please take it slowly, because your body is still recovering."

Kael hesitated before taking the glass and drinking from it, but the moment the water touched his tongue, a strange sense of familiarity washed over him.

It felt like he was back home to a place where he did not want to be. And yet, he was glad to be back.

"What year is it?"

The doctor exchanged a quick glance with the nurse before answering.

"It is 2026. Do you remember anything about yourself? They said that you were shot by your patient and ended up in a coma. You were finally able to wake up after 2 whole years. How does your body feel now?"

The doctor asked as he helped Kael sit up. But he felt too dizzy to answer the doctor.

Two years and a coma? He had been in a coma? Then what happeend in the other world? Was that a dream? There was no way, right?

No matter how ridiculous it seemed, that could not be a dream...

"Anyway, now that you are awake, we can start on the release process. Your parents have paid for your treatment so you haev no debts. All you need to focus on now is recovery."

The doctor assured him and Kael froze.

"My parents?"
